'''Pokémorph''' is a popular term used [[fanon|among fans]] to describe two things; it is used as a term for either a character, usually a human, that has the ability to {{m|transform}} into one or more Pokémon, or an anthropomorphic Pokémon.

The term and its meanings are not used in any Pokémon canon, with the possible exception of [[Pokémon RéBURST]]. Nearly all Pokémorphs of either kind (though more so the anthropomorphic kind) are within the realms of fan fiction, fan art, fan comics and {{wp|dōjinshi}}, role playing forums, and various {{wp|MUSH|MUSHes}}.

==History==
It is not known exactly how or when the term "Pokémorph" came into existence within the Pokémon fandom and accurate information pertaining to the history of the term is scarce. It is presumed that the term and/or its initial meaning existed since around the time that Pokémon {{2v2|Red|Blue}} were released worldwide. "Pokémorphs" were first used to describe any fictional characters that could shapeshift into various Pokémon species. These characters, a derivative of "Pokémon" and "polymorphism", were usually based upon the ''{{wp|Animorphs}}'' book series by {{wp|K. A. Applegate}}.

Over time however, "Pokémorphs", this time derived from "Pokémon" and "anthropomorphism", were then used to describe fictional Pokémon characters who had a combination of both human and Pokémon attributes. These Pokémorphs usually have the physical shapes and sizes of humans, with the appearances and powers of a single Pokémon, as well as mixtures of both human and Pokémon abilities, behaviours and characteristics, such as various forms of communication (e.g. verbal speech between both humans and Pokémon). This "anthropomorphic Pokémon" explanation increased in use as these kinds of fan characters became more prevalent over the years while the original "polymorphic Pokémon" term faded in popularity. Currently, "Pokémorph" is almost always used to refer to an anthropomorphic Pokémon, though its older "polymorphic" meaning is still used in some newer fan fiction to this day.

==Types==
The simple naming scheme of a specific species of Pokémorph is adding the suffix, "-morph", to the name of a {{OBP|Pokémon|species|Pokémon species}} (e.g. "{{p|Pikachu}}-morph"). However, despite the basic descriptions above, Pokémorphs come in a variety of different forms, beyond being simply humans mixed with different species of Pokémon.

Most of these different types are based on the anthropomorphic meaning of Pokémorphs:

== Gen II sprites ==

I don't know anything about fixing sprites or anything, so I might be out of line here, but the Crystal regular sprite is still showing Pichu's tail horizontal after it bobs down to the vertical, so it looks like a black T. Also, in its regular Gen II backsprite, the small patch enclosed by its tail and its body isn't transparent. I don't know who's meant to fix those kinds of things, and it isn't me, but I just thought I'd point that out. ~[[User:Oz|Oz]]

Pikachu is also the only one of Ash's Pokémon to accompany him to the [[Hoenn]] and [[Unova]] regions, and was intended to be the only Pokémon to accompany him to [[Sinnoh]] before [[Dawn's Ambipom|Aipom]] was discovered to have stowed away on the ship Ash was taking. Up until the capture of [[Dawn's Pachirisu]], Pikachu was the only {{type2|Electric}} Pokémon in the anime owned by a main character.

Even with its high level of electrical power, Pikachu has not stopped learning new attacks. Upon learning that [[Roxanne]], the Rustboro Gym Leader used Rock-types, Ash had Pikachu begin learning {{m|Iron Tail}} in ''[[AG013|All Things Bright and Beautifly!]]''. After training hard, Pikachu finally perfected it in ''[[AG016|The Winner by a Nosepass]]'', where he used it to defeat Roxanne's {{p|Nosepass}} and earn Ash his first Hoenn badge. In addition to giving Pikachu an advantage over Rock-types, Iron Tail has allowed Pikachu to defeat many powerful opponents. In ''[[AG150|May's Egg-Cellent Adventure]]'', during a battle with Team Rocket, Ash ordered Pikachu to do a {{m|Quick Attack}}. Much to the surprise of Ash and his friends, the Quick Attack morphed into {{m|Volt Tackle}} which sent Team Rocket blasting off. Until ''[[BW020|Dancing With the Ducklett Trio!]]'', it has been one of Pikachu's signature moves. Also in the same episode, Pikachu learned {{m|Electro Ball}} while battling a trio of annoying {{p|Ducklett}}. Not only that, Pikachu has used his ability, {{a|Static}}, a few times in the anime.

In Hoenn, Pikachu learned how to surf. He also learned how to punch from Ash in ''[[EP029|The Punchy Pokémon]]''. In Sinnoh, Ash used him during the [[Pokémon Ping Pong Tournament]].

In Sinnoh, he defeated [[Roark]]'s {{p|Onix}} in the [[Oreburgh Gym]] rematch. Pikachu battled again in the [[Pastoria Gym]] battle, where he battled [[Crasher Wake]]'s {{p|Gyarados}} and defeated it with a Volt Tackle to the face. He also battled Crasher Wake's Floatzel for a moment, allowing {{AP|Buizel}} time to recover. In ''[[DP102|Shield with a Twist!]]'', Pikachu lost to [[Fantina's Drifblim]] after a fierce battle.

Pikachu's next major battle after Fantina, was when he was used against [[Paul]] in ''[[DP132|Evolving Strategies!]]''. First he went up against {{TP|Paul|Magmortar}}; however, when he attacked with Quick Attack, he was {{status|burn}}ed by Magmortar's {{a|Flame Body}} and Pikachu was recalled. Later, he went up against Paul's very powerful {{TP|Paul|Ursaring}} and {{status|Paralysis|paralyzed}} it with {{a|Static}}. This actually made things worse for Pikachu as being paralyzed activated Ursaring's {{a|Guts}} ability, and Pikachu found himself completely outmatched by Ursaring's massive power and was defeated and thrown into [[Lake Acuity]], taking him out of the match as well as injuring him. This defeat meant that Ash had to defeat Paul's remaining five Pokémon with only {{AP|Chimchar|Infernape}}.

Later, in ''[[DP165|Flint Sparks the Fire!]]'', Pikachu battled {{EF|Flint}}'s {{TP|Flint|Infernape}}, but it was defeated after a long fight.

In ''[[DP179|The Eighth Wonder of the Sinnoh World!]]'', Pikachu battled against [[Volkner]]'s {{p|Electivire}} and won, giving him his first victory over a Pokémon in the {{p|Electabuzz}} evolutionary line. However, he was defeated by Volkner's {{p|Luxray}}.

In the [[Lily of the Valley Conference]], Ash used Pikachu in his battle against Paul in ''[[DP186|Familiarity Breeds Strategy!]]''. It was used against Paul's {{p|Aggron}}, where it put up a good fight and weakened Aggron before it was recalled in place of Infernape. Pikachu was also used in the continuation of Ash's battle against Paul in ''[[DP187|A Real Rival Rouser!]]''. It went against Paul's {{p|Froslass}} where he was seen having some trouble at first, but by the end, he was able to pull through and defeat Froslass with a powerful Volt Tackle attack. This gave Pikachu his first win against one of Paul's Pokémon and also gave Ash the lead in the battle. In ''[[DP188|Battling a Thaw in Relations!]]'', he battled [[Paul's Electivire]], but had trouble due to Electivire's {{a|Motor Drive}} ability, and was soon defeated by a {{m|Brick Break}}. In ''[[DP189|The Semi-Final Frontier!]]'', Pikachu was the last Pokémon chosen by Ash to battle {{si|Tobias}} in the semi-finals. Despite Ash losing five of his Pokémon, Pikachu tried its best to defeat Tobias's {{p|Latios}}. Almost none of the attacks hit or did any damage to Latios in the beginning, however, Pikachu finally managed to jump on top of Latios and used Thunderbolt several times before he was shaken off. As Pikachu was about to land, Latios used {{m|Luster Purge}}. Pikachu used Volt Tackle and Iron Tail, taking against the force of the Luster Purge. However, it was tied with Latios as both fainted. As Ash's last Pokémon also fainted, Tobias was crowned the winner of their battle.

Ash decided to just bring Pikachu to [[Unova]] with him, just like he did in [[Hoenn]]. In ''[[BW001|In The Shadow of Zekrom!]]'', Pikachu had an encounter with {{p|Zekrom}}, which unaware by Ash, caused Pikachu to lose its ability to use Electric-type moves. Ash finally noticed this when it battled [[Trip]]'s {{TP|Trip|Snivy|Servine}}, losing in the process. In ''[[BW002|Enter Iris and Axew!]]'', it regained its ability to use Electric-type attacks and was used in battle which led to the capture of {{AP|Pidove|Tranquill}}. In ''[[BW005|Triple Leaders, Team Threats!]]'', Ash used Pikachu in his Gym battle at the [[Striaton Gym]], where he faced [[Cress]] and his {{p|Panpour}}. Even though he tried his best, Pikachu was just not as fast as Panpour and was defeated without landing a single hit. In ''[[BW010|A Battle for Club Champ!]]'', he battled Trip's {{p|Tranquill}}, who had already taken out [[Ash's Oshawott]] and {{AP|Tepig}}. It took a beating from multiple {{m|Aerial Ace}}s, but showed Trip the power of its electrical attacks by defeating Tranquill with Volt Tackle. It then battled Snivy again, who by then had evolved into {{p|Servine}}. However, despite not being incapacitated, he was once again defeated. In ''[[BW013|Minccino-Neat and Tidy!]]'', Ash used Pikachu in a battle against {{an|Bianca}} and her {{TP|Bianca|Pignite}}. Even though he had some trouble at first, Pikachu was able to pull through in the end and defeat Pignite with a powerful Volt Tackle.

In ''[[BW020|Dancing With the Ducklett Trio!]]'', a trio of {{p|Ducklett}} stole Ash's {{AP|hat}} and {{p|Sandile}}'s sunglasses. One of the Ducklett dropped an umbrella on Pikachu while he was about to use Thunderbolt. Pikachu was unable to release electricity because of it. While Sandile battled the three Ducklett, Pikachu joined the battle as well and after taking a direct hit from the Ducklett, Pikachu began releasing electricity and formed an {{m|Electro Ball}} and sent the Ducklett flying. Later on, it battled against the Sunglasses Sandile. Even though Sandile evolved into {{AP|Krokorok}}, Pikachu used Electro Ball and sent {{m|Stone Edge}} right back at {{p|Krokorok}} and it was sent flying.

Ash used Pikachu in his third Gym battle against Burgh at the [[Castelia Gym]] in ''[[BW023|Battling For The Love of Bug-Types!]]''. Pikachu went up against [[Burgh]]'s {{p|Leavanny}} and after a tough battle, Pikachu was able to win it with a powerful {{m|Iron Tail}} and {{m|Electro Ball}} combo.

In ''[[BW038|Movie Time! Zorua and the Pokémon Knight!]]'' Pikachu played a movie role as Ash's assistant. He battled [[Iris's Axew]] in order to gain the power to defeat [[Cilan (anime)|the villain]] and his [[Cilan's Pansage|assistant]]. He succeeded with a Thunderbolt-Electro Ball combo. He later defeated the villain and rescued the princess.

Ash used Pikachu in the final round in the [[Club Battle]] in ''[[BW042|Club Battle Finale: A Hero's Outcome!]]'' against {{an|Iris}}. Pikachu went up against [[Iris's Excadrill]]. Pikachu had a very hard time battling Excadrill, as Excadrill is part {{t|Ground}} and Pikachu's {{t|Electric}} moves would have no effect on it. Pikachu did surprisingly well, however. Unfortunately, Pikachu fainted first, and Iris won the tournament.

In ''[[BW050|Battle-Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!]]'', when Ash couldn't choose who to use after {{AP|Palpitoad}} and {{AP|Snivy}} fainted, Pikachu got fed up and zapped him, Ash then chose to use Pikachu in his Gym Battle against [[Elesa]]. He went up against her powerful {{p|Emolga}}, who even though it knew {{m|Attract}}, Pikachu beat it with a single {{m|Quick Attack}}. Later, Pikachu battled Elesa's {{p|Tynamo}}, who only knew {{m|Tackle}}, but was still very strong. Yet Pikachu was able to beat Tynamo with a powerful {{m|Iron Tail}} attack, winning Ash the {{badge|Bolt}}.

In [[BW059]], Pikachu teamed up with [[Cilan's Stunfisk]] to battle {{p|Tornadus}} and {{p|Thundurus}}. Stunfisk used his amazing jumping ability to get them both into the air so that they could launch a {{m|Thunderbolt}}—{{m|ThunderShock}} combination at the two legendary Pokémon. However, Pikachu was knocked off Stunfisk's back and his partner was then struck by a powerful {{m|Hammer Arm}}. Later in [[BW060]], Pikachu helped rescue the [[kami trio]] from {{TRT}}. He used Thunderbolt on [[Dr. Zager]]'s helicopter, joined by {{AP|Roggenrola|Boldore}}, Iris's Axew and {{TP|Iris|Emolga}} and Cilan's Pansage to cause the forcefield prisons trapping the trio to break.

==Personality and characteristics==

Pikachu is extremely loyal to Ash, and while he is not always immediately trusting of strangers, he is generally friendly to humans and Pokémon alike. He acted as a guardian and big brother to [[Misty's Togetic|Misty's Togepi]], and has been seen mediating and even breaking up fights among other Pokémon, such as in ''[[PK01|Pikachu's Vacation]]''. In ''[[M01|Mewtwo Strikes Back]]'', Pikachu, {{MTR}}, and Meowth's clone were the only Pokémon not to participate in the giant battle; Pikachu stood motionless as his [[Pikachutwo|clone]] repeatedly slapped his face. Contrary to his distrusting nature, Pikachu took a liking to Misty very early in the series, and he has retained this liking of Misty throughout the series, such as when he was very happy to see her in ''[[AG132|The Scheme Team]]''.

However, even Pikachu has had exceptions to this rule. In ''[[EP086|Pikachu Re-Volts]]'', Pikachu was controlled by Butch and Cassidy, which caused him to become evil and disobey Ash's commands. During the Hoenn saga, Pikachu [[AG089|temporarily developed amnesia]] and sided with [[Team Rocket trio|Team Rocket]] for a while. Later within the same series, Pikachu was possessed by the {{DL|List of key items in Generation III|Red Orb}} and controlled by {{p|Groudon}}, nearly causing a disaster. On several occasions, Pikachu has developed an "electric flu" causing him to become overcharged, and extremely powerful. During these instances, Pikachu will sometimes accidentally let off electric outbursts which can be set off on anyone, including Ash. In all of these cases, Pikachu did not intentionally mean harm upon anyone.

As shown in a handful of episodes, the first being ''[[EP042|Showdown at Dark City]]'', Pikachu has a special fondness for ketchup, but he will eat and enjoy almost any other human or Pokémon food. A running joke in the anime also seems to be the destruction of a female character's [[bicycle|bike]] with one of Pikachu's {{m|Thunderbolt}}s at the beginning of each series, which then causes her to {{ashfr|follow Ash}} for the remainder of the series. This has happened to {{an|Misty}}, {{an|May}}, and {{an|Dawn}} so far, but did not happen to {{an|Iris}}, since she doesn't have a bike. Instead, Pikachu shocked Iris herself.

Pikachu, like his Trainer, is always happy to battle. He often tries his very best, but when he loses, he doesn't complain or feel bad about himself, especially when Ash reassures him. It has a long, skinny tail ending with a rounded tip. Mew has big hind legs, like a {{wp|rabbit}}, and short arms with three-fingered paws. Mew's feet are very large with oval markings near its three toes. Mew has triangle-shaped ears and baby-blue eyes. Mew is said to have the {{wp|DNA}} of every single Pokémon contained within its body. It also vaguely resembles an embryo or fetus, and is often depicted in a pink orb.

Mew's main abilities include turning invisible at will (similar to {{p|Rotom}}), creating force-fields of psychic energy and being able to {{m|transform}} into any one of the other 648 species of Pokémon. Mew is capable of wielding every [[type]] of attack possible. It also has the ability to float in mid-air, in much the same fashion as {{p|Celebi}} and {{p|Jirachi}}. It has been seen to be able to swim {{m|Dive|underwater}} as well.

However, since Mew can either make itself invisible or transform itself into any other Pokémon, very few people have knowingly seen it, and it is called a mirage by most. Since many scientists believe that Mew is the ancestor of all Pokémon, and a number of extraterrestrial Pokémon have been discovered, it is possible that Mew could [[Extraterrestrial Pokémon|inhabit other areas of the universe]], and whether it originates from [[Pokémon world|Earth]] at all is debatable.

In this movie, Mew made a couple of cameo appearances at the start of the movie. A {{an|Mewtwo}} was cloned from Mew's DNA, extracted from Mew's eyelash. Later, Mew started appearing around [[New Island]] while Mewtwo was testing his [[starter Pokémon]] clones. Mew followed [[Team Rocket]] into the main part of the island so it could stop Mewtwo from destroying the world. After the end credits of the movie, Mew is shown flying to the mountains.

In the Japanese version, Mew's characterization was different. Mew's intention was to wipe out cloned Pokémon, Mewtwo included, because it viewed them as inferior, in stark contrast to Mewtwo, who wished to eliminate natural-born.

Mew makes a small appearance in the hour-length special ''[[Mewtwo Returns]]'', the sequel to ''Mewtwo Strikes Back''. Mewtwo sees it after being thrown into the Purity Spring.

Another Mew first appeared transformed as a {{p|Ho-Oh}}, and then as a {{p|Taillow}}, landing on [[Cameran Palace]] and then {{m|transform}}ing into {{p|Treecko}}. It then transformed into an {{p|Aipom}} to play with [[Ash's Pikachu]]. {{Ash}} and {{Ashfr|the others}} released their Pokémon to play with what they thought was an Aipom.

After taking them to an attic, [[Kidd Summers]] sent her two {{p|Weavile}} after it. To escape, it {{m|teleport}}ed itself, along with Pikachu and {{MTR}}. It then transformed once again into a {{p|Pidgeot}} and flew the Pokémon to the [[Tree of Beginning]]. While Ash and the others were looking for Pikachu, Mew kept it entertained with toys.

Mew also nearly sacrificed itself to save the Tree of Beginning. {{mov|Lucario|Lucario|8}} stepped in and was able to save Mew, but ended up sacrificing itself. Mew is believed to still reside at the Tree of Beginning. It is last seen playing with a {{p|Bonsly}}.

A {{pkmn2|mirage}} Mew appears in ''[[The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon]]'', and helps to interfere with the plans of [[Dr. Yung|Mirage Master]].

Mew debuted in its own round in the {{chap|Red, Green & Blue}}, ''[[PS001|A Glimpse of the Glow]]''. Here, {{adv|Red}} and {{adv|Blue}} see one in [[Pallet Town]] and try to catch it, but fail. It is known as the "Phantom Pokémon" and was chased by [[Team Rocket]].

Team Rocket's chase would continue all the way to {{DL|Pokémon Adventures volume 2|the next volume}}, where they attempt to regain the disc containing Mew's habitat and information from {{adv|Green}}, but fail and are tricked into stealing an empty one she prepared. They catch up to Green and her unwilling ally Red soon afterward, and interrupt them when they tracked down and attempted to capture the rare Pokémon. However, when their {{p|Jynx}} was able to almost succeed, Mew's powerful Psychic attack left them listless, and soon escaped. The small samples of its DNA that the Rockets acquired, however, led to the creation of its powerful clone.

Another volume later, Mew is briefly seen looking into the [[Indigo Plateau]] after Red wins the Pokémon League championship and decides to return to Pallet Town with his two fellow [[Pokédex Holder]]s.

It later reappeared in the {{chap|FireRed & LeafGreen}}, where it saved Red and the people of [[Vermilion City]] from the impending crash of the TR helicopter. {{adv|Mewtwo}} notices this, and realizes that he too had a root to trace itself back to, as it was born from Mew's eyelash.

After unlocking every character in Melee, there is a 1 in 251 chance of Mew appearing from a Poké Ball. The thrower of the Poké Ball receives the same "Mew Catcher" bonus.

Mew returns again as a rare Pokémon in Brawl, the chance of it appearing is 1 in 493 this time. Like the other "secret" Pokémon, it drops rare items instead of just flying away. In Mew's case, the items are CDs. However, once all the pick-up CDs are obtained, it will drop Stickers instead.

Deoxys can also regenerate any part of its body that it may have lost during a battle. It appears that as long as its crystalline organ is intact, it can regenerate its entire body. In the anime, Deoxys took four years to regenerate its whole self after being completely obliterated by {{p|Rayquaza}}.

Deoxys can release an aurora every time it changes its forme, but releasing an Aurora is not required to change forme. In the {{pkmn|movie}} ''[[M07|Destiny Deoxys]]'', it is shown that Deoxys can create an aurora at will without changing forme, and can communicate with other Deoxys with auroras of different wavelengths.

In the anime and manga, Deoxys is also seen with the ability to create clones of itself. Deoxys plays a major role in the events of the {{chap|FireRed & LeafGreen}}. During the disaster in the previous chapter, [[Team Rocket]] infiltrated the [[Mossdeep Space Center]] and stole a virus that had been exposed to a laser beam while in space, then ended up attached to a meteorite. In their care, the virus split into two entities and developed into two separate Deoxys, appropriately named Entities 1 and 2. While the leaders of Team Rocket stayed on in [[Hoenn]], other members took the two Deoxys back to Kanto. The team transporting the Deoxys were startled when the Deoxys began to change forme (as Normal and Speed forms had been previously documented) and Entity Two took advantage of this and escaped, accidentally absorbing some of {{adv|Red}}'s blood in the escape. {{adv|Giovanni}} used the weaker Entity One to capture {{adv|Green}}'s parents and {{adv|Professor Oak}}. Red was tricked into battling Entity Two, who defeated him but was captured by Giovanni. Around this time, Team Rocket managed to duplicate the climate of [[Hoenn]] and allowed Deoxys to transform into all of its formes. Giovanni used Entity Two to locate his son, {{adv|Silver}} and set out for [[Viridian City]]. Red came to Giovanni, and challenged him with {{p|Mewtwo}}. Ultimately triumphing due to [[Bill]] shutting down the Hoenn climate machine on [[Chrono Island]], Giovanni revealed that he disposed of Entity One and {{adv|Yellow}} used her abilities to inform Red of his link to Deoxys. Entity Two then sped towards a [[Sinnoh|distant region]] in hopes of being allowed to freely transfer between formes and locating Entity One.

===In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!===
Deoxys plays a large part in a [[DPAS1|Special Chapter]] of Volume 3 in the series. [[Hareta]] and [[Mitsumi]] are in [[Veilstone City]]. They come upon the large meteorite, and Mitsumi proceeds to tell him that there is a Pokémon that comes from a meteorite. He tells her that he's met Deoxys. She freaks out and doesn't believe him, so he tells the story of how he met Deoxys. Hareta is seen jumping around the forest until he starts riding a {{p|Drifloon}}. A {{p|Murkrow}} flies toward them and pecks the Drifloon, causing it to explode. Hareta is seen plummeting to the ground, and then bouncing off a {{p|Bibarel}}'s stomach. He lays down on the ground with the Bibarel as a pillow, when the Bibarel starts getting worried, because it sees the meteorite containing Deoxys zooming to the ground. The Bibarel tries to tell Hareta what's happening, and he looks up and wonders what it is. The Pokémon and Hareta try to get away as the meteorite crashes down. Deoxys emerges from the meteor, and Hareta thinks it might be a Pokémon. Meanwhile, [[Mars]] and some grunts saw the crash, and begin to battle it. It, of course, defeats Team Galactic's puny Pokémon. [[Professor Rowan]] shows up, a little worried that something might've happened to Hareta. He asks Rowan what happened to "that weird Pokémon". They then see Deoxys, and Rowan is shocked to see such a rare Pokémon. It transforms to Attack Forme and fires off what seems to be a {{m|Hyper Beam}} at Hareta and Rowan. Rowan tells Hareta not to make it any madder, but instead he jumps on top of Deoxys and asks it what's wrong. It flings him off, then tries to fire another Hyper Beam at him, but he jumps around it, evading it completely. He jumps on it again, but it transforms to Speed Forme while he is still on it. It starts flying around the forest with Hareta, while he asks Deoxys what's wrong once more. It tells him what's wrong, but it throws him off itself. Then he battles Deoxys with his friends from the forest. {{P|Onix}} tries to {{M|Headbutt}} it, but it misses. It transforms to Defense Forme, and then Hareta jumps on Deoxys and covers its eyes. Then he tells a bunch of {{P|Kricketune}} to have a "super bug concert". Rowan compliments him on the super-effectiveness of the attack, then it transforms back to Normal Forme. It becomes calmer, but transforms to Attack Forme and fires off another Hyper Beam, but it hits a {{P|Drifloon}}. It explodes, defeating Deoxys. Deoxys is totally calm now, and it merges its tentacles to create a hand, and it shakes hands with Hareta. Hareta finishes telling the story to Mitsumi, and tells her that it wanted to find out more about this planet.

When doing certain actions for the first time, players are given a tutorial by [[Fennel]]. They may then explore the rest of the Dream World on their own. With the reopening of the Global Link site after the release of international versions of Black and White, players who had Japanese accounts prior to the reopening will be given tutorials once again. Players are also given the tutorial again when using a computer that they have not used for visiting the Dream World before.

On the player's first visit to the Dream World, they will receive five of one of the {{cat|damage-reducing berries}} from Fennel; this is the only way, besides Share Shelves, to obtain these Berries. Repeating the tutorial does not re-award these Berries.

Due to the amount of people accessing the site at one time, players are given only one hour to access the Dream World every 24 hours. However, the website is {{DL|Global Link|Routine maintenance|occasionally under maintenance}}, prohibiting access.

==Features==
===Home===

Players are given a home they can customize in the Dream World. With the use of certain [[Berries]], they may purchase [[Décor]] to decorate the rooms available in the house. The house itself may be remodeled for a certain amount of Berries. Each day, players may also unlock one of up to five special pieces of Décor by talking to Loblolly in [[Nacrene City]].

The house itself contains the Treasure Chest, where players may see the [[item]]s they have in the Dream World. The Treasure Chest also allows items to be sent to Pokémon Black or White via the [[Entralink]]. The Friend Board is available for players to see which Pokémon they are going to send back to Pokémon Black or White, as well as showing the ones they have sent before.

At the doorstep is the Footprint Mat, which shows the Pokémon that have visited the player's home. Also, when there is a pending Dream Pal request for the player, the Footprint Mat will glow.

===Garden===

Unlike most games since {{2v2|Ruby|Sapphire}}, when the mechanic was introduced, Black and White do not allow players to plant Berries. Instead, players may plant Berries in the Dream World in the garden found in the area to the left of their home. Berries will take 50% longer to grow in the Dream World compared to their growth rates in Generation IV. Two rows are available from the beginning for players to plant their Berries in, with each row containing spaces for three Berries. A third row will be dug by {{p|Diglett}} after players have earned at least 900 Dream Points, and a fourth after they have earned at least 2100.

The Berry patches require watering, or they will dry out. A player can water their own Berries or others'. As of the April 2011 update, players may only water other players' Berries a total of twenty times per trip to the Dream World. However, players can water their own Berry patches an unlimited number of times.

===Share Shelf===
To the right of the player's home is the Share Shelf, a stand where items may be placed. Other players can swap their own items for items placed on a Share Shelf. A player will not be able to trade for an item that they already have or that they traded to the shelf, as of the April 2011 update.

===Island of Dreams===

While players may access the other features of the Dream World even when they do not have a Pokémon in the Dream World, they may access the Island of Dreams only when they do have a Pokémon in the Dream World. The island has several areas players may explore, find items and befriend Pokémon. More areas are unlocked as players obtain Dream Points. If the player has access to more than one area, they are sent to a random area every time they go to the island. If players obtain the necessary amount of points to unlock an area, they can access the area even without logging out of Dream World or Global Link.

After exploring an area, players will go to the Tree of Dreams, where they may choose to leave a Berry in the tree and make a wish to choose one of their befriended Pokémon to send to the Entralink. If they do, they may not revisit the Island of Dreams until the next trip. However, if they do not choose to make a wish and befriend a Pokémon, they have the choice of visiting the island again to look for more Pokémon and items. Upon entering the Island of Dreams a certain number of times, players will start to find nothing on the island. If there are fifty Pokémon ready to be taken back to the game, the Island cannot be visited. In the Japanese version there originally was a maximum limit of 50 Pokémon to be transferred at all; however, this was removed in 2010.

Berries and other items are found throughout the Dream Island. They may either be sent to the player's games, be traded to other players or be used to buy Décor.

After finding a Pokémon, players are given an option to participate in mini-games in order to befriend them. The type of game depends on the Pokémon species encountered. Getting certain amounts of points in a game allows players to obtain Pokémon with moves not normally obtained by leveling up.

Players must find a certain Pokémon within the time limit by navigating through the map. They may see a bush, cloud, rock, or many other objects rustling, or they may click the objects themselves. Up to two different places per area of the map are clickable. If a hiding place rustles, clicking on it will reveal a Pokémon hiding there. Upon entering an area, rustling can happen either immediately or after a second passes if a Pokémon is present, and, most often than not, it is not the Pokémon sought after. When encountering the wrong Pokémon, the timer temporarily pauses as to not penalize the player.

Players may click "Listen carefully" to hear if the Pokémon sought after is within a three block radius from the player; the timer does not pause when players choose to use it. Players may also find an item lost by the Pokémon by clicking on some sparkles—an item that will be given to the Pokémon, allowing players to gain 5,000 bonus points. The Pokémon to be found is always within a two block radius to the item. The game automatically ends when the Pokémon is found.

Players must choose a Berry in their treasure chests to use in the game, each providing three different kinds of ice cream to utilize. The type of ice creams available will depend on the Berry. Certain Berries will bring ice cream that can be scooped more easily or stickier ice cream; the opposite is also true. Players must stack ice cream scoops on top of each other and at least reach the minimal goal of twenty inches to win the game.

The score will be higher if the player balances three kinds of ice cream and/or if bite-size scoops are made, as well as if their stack is tall. The size of bite-size scoops varies every time the game is played, depending on the Pokémon. However, if a scoop does not stick, there poses the possibility that part of the stack might collapse if the falling scoop hits and dislodges any of the scoops that may be below it. A {{p|Combee}} oversees the player's progress. If a scoop falls, it will become irate. If a bite-size scoop sticks, the Combee will give off hearts. Every twenty inches that is reached, Combee will mark it off with a line.

When playing in a language other than English, the units used are {{wp|centimetre}}s rather than {{wp|inch}}es; however, they are considered equal for the purposes of the minigame.

Players must guide {{p|Pelipper}} using hand flags—the player's cursor—to finish a 1,000 meter race. The space bar, on the other hand, as well as a button on the screen, allows players to pause the game. The game ends when Pelipper reaches the goal. The first 140 meters (860 m) are the same at the start of every race. After that, various sections are randomly spliced together to make up the course. Each section change is denoted by an abnormally empty patch of sky, and the same section can be in one race multiple times. Each 200 meters reached are announced by a flag in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

There are certain things that will help finish the race sooner or even later. Naturally, Pelipper will climb in speed to three-fifths the max of the speed gauge (the blue-green-yellow sections) without assistance. Collecting Boost Energy, in the form of a bubble with a water drop (symbolizing the {{type2|Water}}), will earn points. Hitting three Boost Energy will make Pelipper fly faster (a speed-up). Clouds, however, will reduce Pelipper's max speed, which must be regained through Boost Energy if not below half the maximum speed. Delay Energy, in the form of a bubble with a lightning bolt (symbolizing the {{t|Electric|type}} Pelipper is weakest to), will slow down or stop Pelipper. This will also make Pelipper lose the Boost Energy it has earned.

For every Boost Energy collected, the player is awarded 300 points. For every speed-up, the player is awarded an additional 1000 points on top of the 300. Once maximum speed is achieved, the points become 450 for each Boost Energy, and once collecting three Boost Energy does not result in a speed-up, the point bonus become 1500. If the speed falls by cloud or Delay Energy even a little, the bonus points return to default.

The player begins with only one Pokémon. As time goes on, more join in the game, until all four are in play. At five seconds in (1:25), the second Pokémon joins. The third joins at thirty seconds in (1:00) and the fourth joins after a minute has passed (0:30).

To win, players must open at least fifteen balls. When a ball is hit (regardless if it opens or not), lamps to the right side of the screen light up and 300 ×N points are awarded, and when any five light up, the score multiplier increases (the max is ×10). The multiplier goes back to the base value (×1) when a Pokémon falls into the water. When five of a specific row light up, it counts as one ball counter and the row resets.

If the player reaches the end of the game with none of the Pokémon falling into the water, they receive a 10,000 point bonus.

A special mini-game only available in the Pokémon Café Forest, players must ring a bell to guide a {{p|Foongus}} to serve drinks to various Pokémon. They receive more points if they serve the correctly-colored drinks, or the drinks are in a Special Cup. If the player tries to move the Foongus too fast, however, it will sweat and may spill or drop drinks. The Foongus can carry up to three drinks at once; however, more drinks increase the chance of dropping them.

To win, players must serve at least four drinks. For every drink given to a Pokémon, a certain icon will be given, with each icon representing a certain amount of points. The icons are given priority in reverse order as they are listed. For example, a spilled Special Cup will yield a music note instead of a star while a wrong spilled drink will give a question mark.

Many Pokémon that are found in the Island of Dreams are not found in the [[Unova]] region, and would otherwise have to be migrated from a [[Generation IV]] game to be used. Almost all Pokémon are given Hidden Abilities that their species cannot have by normal means. Some Pokémon do not have Hidden Abilities because they are defined by their ability, such as {{p|Slaking}}, {{p|Shedinja}}, {{p|Castform}}, {{p|Plusle}}, {{p|Minun}}, {{p|Arceus}}, and many Pokémon with {{a|Levitate}}; however, some may still be encountered here.

====Breeding mechanics====
When female Pokémon with Hidden Abilities are bred with a male Pokémon from a compatible egg group, there is a 40% chance that the offspring will inherit the mother's hidden ability; for example, if a female {{p|Darmanitan}} with {{a|Zen Mode}} bred with a male {{p|Simisage}}, the offspring {{p|Darumaka}} may have {{a|Inner Focus}} instead of the usual {{a|Hustle}} and would evolve into a Darmanitan with {{a|Zen Mode}} instead of {{a|Sheer Force}}. Hidden abilities cannot be passed down from male or genderless Pokémon, or when breeding with {{p|Ditto}}.

===Dream Pals===
A player can become Dream Pals with another player by visiting their house and sending a Dream Pal request. The other player's footprint mat will then glow until the request is accepted, deleted or expires. If the other player accepts, the two players become Dream Pals, and a rainbow bridge will link the two players' homes on their Dream Pal maps.

When visiting another player's house, it is possible to view their Dream Pal map, and go directly to the houses of other Dream Pals of that player. This allows the creation of large networks of players.

In addition, on the player's Dream Pal map, a random player's house will appear in the bottom right-hand corner, as long as the privacy settings are set to "everyone". This player is randomly selected every time the player opens the Dream Pal map.

Prior to the April 2011 update, Dream Pals were only those that players had added to their Pal Pads.

===Dream Points===
Dream Points are earned by doing certain actions in the Dream World. Similar to earning {{OBP|Watt|currency}}s in the [[Pokéwalker]], gaining Dream Points allows players to unlock more areas on the Island of Dreams. As of December 21, 2010, all Dream Point requirements were halved permanently.

==Waking up==
Right before saving the game and finishing a session, players are given the option to make real the Pokémon friends they have met and any items they have collected. These items will become available immediately after waking a Pokémon up using the {{DL|C-Gear|Game Sync}} function. Anything materialized from the Dream World into a copy of Pokémon Black or White can be found within the [[Entralink]]. Waking Pokémon also resets mechanics such as the watering can being refilled.

If the player earns 500 points between tucking the Pokémon in and waking it up, the Pokémon's level increases.

Waking up also initiates any Pokémon Black or White customizations made on the {{pkmn|Global Link}} website.

If the player selects the choice to exit the game and keep the Pokémon asleep, then does not (before the hour is over) or cannot (because the hour is over) reenter the game, the option to wake the player's Pokémon is available on the main page of the Global Link website. Whatever was ready to be ported into the player's Pokémon Black or White version (Pokémon, items, customizations) will be carried over through the Game Sync.

While many honest fans distribute hacks of Pokémon games for free over the internet, some unscrupulous people have been known to sell them in the guise of legitimate games. Some of these games are hacked onto the actual game cartridges and sold over the internet on sites such as eBay. There are an uncountable number of hacks available on the Internet (a search on YouTube will easily reveal at least a dozen), so this article will limit itself to only the most notable ones.

==Moemon==

Moemon (short for "{{wp|Moe (slang)|Moekko}} Monsters") is another hack of Pokémon FireRed that changes all Pokémon into [http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Gijinka gijinka]. It is a simple change of FireRed, but with additions such as the ability to catch the three [[starter Pokémon|starters]], {{p|Eevee}}, and a mix of both LeafGreen and FireRed Pokémon (thus making it simpler to obtain all Pokémon).

Moemon received a short burst of fame when it was posted to gaming site Kotaku in late 2007.[http://kotaku.com/gaming/clip/pokemon-dressed-up-in-moe-332781.php]

==Pokémon Adventure==

Pokémon Adventure is a hack of {{wp|Sonic Blast}}, a game for the {{wp|Sega Game Gear}}. It has five levels, and the intro sequence consists of a few Japanese [[Pokédex]] screenshots from {{2v2|Gold|Silver}}. The game was released with no changes to enemies, although the main character {{wp|Sonic the Hedgehog}} was replaced by {{p|Pikachu}} and all rings were changed to [[Poké Ball]]s.

==Pokémon Chaos Black==

Another famous hack is Pokémon Chaos Black, which is a modification of {{game|FireRed}} that was released on the [[Game Boy Advance]]. This game contains many fake Pokémon, including [[Mewthree]]. Although it has a reputation as a bootleg cartridge sold illegally, the original creator of the hack released the patch for it onto the Internet. Chaos Black is famous for including numerous created Pokémon and including harsh language.

The description on the back of some boxes is a dead giveaway that it is a bootleg, as there is a missing accent on the "e" in "Pokémon". Another giveaway is that on the cover and title screen is Chaos from Sonic the Hedgehog games. Another is that it has Mewthree Inc. instead of Nintendo, meaning it can't have been endorsed by Nintendo, Pokémon's usual trademark. Despite these obvious flaws, the bootleggers still included a fake Nintendo Seal of Approval on the box and cartridge.

==Pokémon Diamond and Jade==

Possibly the most well-known bootleg "Pokémon" games are the notorious '''Pokémon Diamond and Jade''' (not to be confused with the official [[Generation IV]] games {{game|Diamond}} and {{game|Pearl}}). In truth, these games were poorly translated versions of a Japanese game known as {{wp|Keitai Denjū Telefang}}. Telefang was divided into two versions: Power and Speed; the Power Version became Pokémon Diamond and the Speed Version became Pokémon Jade. Pokémon Jade was sometimes released on the [[Game Boy Color]] on the same cartridge as {{game|Crystal}}, but could also be found as a standalone cartridge. The hacks had numerous glitches that the original game did not have, such as the inability to load a save properly. The game also contains profanity and swearing, which is absent from all official Pokémon games licensed by [[Nintendo]].

==Pokémon Diamond 2 and Jade 2==

Similar to the first fake Diamond and Jade games, Diamond 2 and Jade 2 were hacked from Keitai Denjū Telefang 2. Also, like Diamond and Jade, the Power Version of Telefang 2 became Pokémon Diamond 2, and the Speed Version became Pokémon Jade 2. They are in Chinese, and their title screens have been altered to poorly drawn Pokémon characters. The similarities between the title screens of this and the original Diamond and Jade (as well as the fact that they have Pokémon names in the first place) suggest that these may be made by the same pirates. Diamond 2 crashes after the title screen, making it unplayable without a save state, and Jade 2 has graphical glitches. There is also a poorly translated English version of the Power Version of Telefang 2 called "Pokémon Ruby," which has no relation to the real one, and not much is known about it.

==Pokémon Naranja/Orange==
Pokémon Naranja is a hack of {{game|Ruby}} in which the {{player}} plays as either {{Ash}} or [[Misty]] and travels around the [[Orange Archipelago]]. Naranja is a Spanish word which means Orange. Strangely, "naranja" is Spanish for the fruit orange, while "anaranjado" is Spanish for the color orange. {{p|Celebi}} appears on the box art and title screen.

This game is based on the [[Pokémon: The Adventures in the Orange Islands|Orange Saga]] in the [[Pokémon anime|anime]]. The game starts after the player had won the [[Indigo League]]. Despite this fact, the player starts with only a Lv. 5 {{p|Pikachu}}. Many characters, plots and events in the Orange Saga are included in the game, such as the [[GS Ball]], Ash's {{AP|Lapras}}, the [[Orange Crew]], the [[Crystal Onix]], the {{p|Golduck}} from [[EP091]], and Ash's {{AP|Snorlax}}.

This game also includes a special feature: The player's character actually speaks during some of the story sequences, which has never been implemented in any official Pokémon game.

The game maker originally planned to release a third Beta Version before {{wp|Christmas}} in 2005; however, the creator canceled this for an unknown reason. Therefore, the game is currently incomplete.

Naranja has, much like Chaos Black and Shiny Gold, also been published in cartridge form and sold as a bootleg game by pirates.

==Pokémon Brown==

Pokémon Brown is a hack of Pokémon Red, this hack begin production in mid 2002, as a sequel to Koolboyman's "Rated M" ROM hack "Fukemon", titled "Fukemon 2". Finally, on January 16th, 2004, the hack was released to the public. The hack has a complete change of all maps and has some minor script tweaks. Also, almost all the Pokémon sprites have been changed. Pokémon Brown takes place in the Rijon region. Koolboyman has also announced a remake of Pokémon Brown. It is scheduled to be released in December 2009.

==Pokémon Prism==

Pokémon Prism is a hack of {{game|Gold}}. This hack completely overhauls the original game, and also won [[Pokécommunity]]'s Hack of the Year award in 2007. [http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=120692] It takes place in a new region called Naljo, with new music, new Pokémon types, and more. One feature is to replace the player's sprite with another at a special shop. The game also has crafting systems (not fully implemented as of the second beta release) and the ability to send a Pokémon out of its Poké Ball outside of battle. Like many other hacks, Prism is still in progress, with periodic updates being released to the public.

==Pokémon Quartz==
Another hack of Pokémon Ruby, released by the author as a patch file intended to be played by {{wp|VisualBoyAdvance|VBA}} users who already owned the Ruby cartridge and had a copy of its ROM image. The game has a great number of spelling and grammatical errors, which result from the hack being translated from Spanish, although the grammar improves throughout the game. The game also contains profanity and adult themes, which are absent from all official Pokémon games. Pokémon Quartz replaced all names and graphics of traditional Pokémon with new, made-up Pokémon, although some of the changes were only cosmetic and did not change learnsets or types. The game takes place in a region known as "Corna", a heavily edited version of Hoenn, and requires the player to navigate a very different series of paths during gameplay.

While the best-known bootleg cartridge as played on the actual GBA contains serious glitches and errors, the current patch file release works well with VBA when the patch is applied to a clean image of an actual Ruby cartridge.

Zorak of Something Awful did a complete Let's Play [http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Pokemon%20Quartz/index.html playthrough of the game], which ended with an interview with the creator of the hack.

==Pokémon Shiny Gold==

Pokémon Shiny Gold is a total conversion of {{game|FireRed}} that turns the game into a {{2v2|Gold|Silver}} remake, much like how FireRed is a remake of {{game|Red}}. It is considered by many to be among the best and one of the highest-quality hacked games, and was runner-up in the Hack of the Year 2007 contest at the [[PokéCommunity]]. Although the game has been released to the ROM community as a patch, some pirates have copied the hack (as with many others) to Game Boy Advance cartridges to illegally sell. In response to this, Zel (the creator of the hack) placed a note at the beginning of the game saying that the game should be returned if the player paid for it. The game features changes to allow Pokémon that normally evolve via time-based events or trade to evolve by other methods that are more easily available to the player. For example, {{p|Scyther}} evolves into {{p|Scizor}} with a [[Evolutionary stone#Moon Stone|Moon Stone]] rather than by its normal method, trading while holding a [[Type-enhancing item#Metal Coat|Metal Coat]]. The game also features many events which were not available in the original game, as well as many [[Generation III]] Pokémon being found in some areas.
