Does anyone know where the Kanto and Johto badges' images came from, or who made them? I think it would look a lot better if we had something like that for the other two regions... I mean, if anyone has some drawing skill and can draw out the Hoenn badges, then digitally color them like the other ones, that'd be a good substitute for that anime screenshot... Same for the Shin'ō ones, if we get their colors ahead of time... Depends on how fast we get through Shin'ō in the anime, though, I'd suppose. == Multiple Gyms ==

I've been watching Pokémon Chronicles lately, and something in the episode where Misty takes over as Gym Leader (Cerulean Blues, I think) seems kinda relevant. The Inspectors that are busy closing down various Gyms across Kanto are reported on the news to have closed down several already. If eight badges are a requirement for entering the Indigo League, there must be at least eight still open after those closures, right? That would seem to imply that there were (prior to that episode) several extra Gyms.

Also, in the games the "Fighting Dojo" is supposed to have had Gym status, and recently lost it. Bearing in mind that Sabrina's Gym has a pretty formidable reputation, I doubt its "brand new", in which case I'd espect the Fighting Dojo and Sabrina's Gym to have run simultaneously, at least for a bit. I know the Dojo was never mentioned in the Anime, but maybe one of Gary's badges (or the other trainers') could be from there, or other similar Gyms that were closed down?

:Weighing in, I think other forms of canon have always put a space between the words, which gives some weight to standardizing them as always spaced. I mean, granted, we usually set game canon as the one true canon, but... also, btw, RSE and FRLG weren't necessarily translated by the same people in the company, which could account for the difference. I wouldn't be surprised if the people translating FRLG were looking back at the generation I data for reference far more than the data for the other generation III games, except maybe to make sure the new items shared the same names. ==Computers versus badges==
Does anyone else find it odd that badges/ribbons themselves serve as authentication rather than a computerized system (then again, if badges were simply for decoration and kept track of by computer, we couldn't have "badge theft" episodes)? It seems strange that there's a computerized system for transferring Pokémon over large distances but not a system for keeping track of trainer acheivements. At one point, just prior to his entry into the Hoenn League Ash goes through the obligatory 'Badge loss' episode and is told that he can still enter due to the records but states that he wouldn't want to without the badges, that losing them would be a major psychological blow. There were sixteen Pokemon types in Generation I; Dark was the only type not to have any Pokemon named after it (easy to find a Pokemon of each type: Rattata, Machop, Pidgey, Koffing, Sandshrew, Geodude, Caterpie, Gastly, Magnemite, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Alakazam, Jynx and Dratini for example). If the sentence is referring to only single-types then it would be much less than 15 as there certainly weren't any single-typed Dark, Ice or Steel Pokemon (and maybe more) in Generation I. So, Sabrina's badge was originally going to be the Soul Badge, because Psychickers can peer into your soul... and Koga's badge was going to be the Marsh Badge, because Poisonous fumes come from marshes and such. These were accidentally flipped in the final version, and have stuck even in Gen II and the Gen III remakes. Eevee is not Eon, and Abra is not Hocus. But we still mention that before the official release, Eevee was going to be called Eon and Abra Hocus and Kadabra Pocus and such. Why don't we mention this flip-flop then? == Gary and other ideas ==

Part of the article I have ideas about improving:
Gary Oak acquired more than the standard eight Kanto League badges, thus leading to confusion as to whether or not there is an infinite number of badges that can be given out in a given region. By The Battle of the Badge, he is shown to have at least ten badges, only 3 of which correspond to known Kanto league badges, suggesting there are at least fifteen gyms in Kanto. This would, therefore, provide one gym for each of the (at the time) fifteen types. Among these may include the Fighting Dojo, a gym shown to be defunct by Pokémon Red and Blue.

When I first saw the anime episode which is described in this section of the article ( I saw the episode long before I ever read this article) I immediatly thought that Gary recived the badges from other regions (possibly regions that are still unknown as of today) and that the Pokemon League (at least in Kanto) did not care which badges you have as long as you have 8. Also on the subject of more than 8 gym badges in Kanto, there were examples of cites in anime (in Kanto) which were not in the games (such as the city in which Ash got his Muk, if I not mistaken)leading a viewer to believe that there could be many more cities (and gym badges) in the region. I was trying to get you to imagine how you would see a shovel. Also I woke up 10 am EST Monday Morning, I spent all day working on commissions, reviews and other art and word stuff. I haven't even been to bed yet. it is now 11 am EST Tuesday Morning and still I'm not tired. However, a simple and innocent spelling error will happen when you're up 25 hours no matter if you're tired or not.

There are multiple constructs to this badge. You have to look at all the pieces to see the bigger picture. If I asked you if you see a shield, do you think you can see it?

Pieces: Byron has a shovel, He mines, he has a Bastiodon which is basically a shield. Put it all together you get the mine badge.

Picture: The pick axes are pick axes, and they are also the handles and outline line art of multiple shovels and one big shovel head/shield. Not only do the shovel heads make up a shield, so does the entire badge.

::Isolate the middle Pickaxe and middle brown patch, that is the first shovel. Never mind that it's not the exact shape you think of when you thank of a shovel head. When it comes to a pikachu's tail, does a thunderbolt shape not appear in your mind? Ok, now for the big shovel head, look at the shape all three brown patches make, ignore the pickaxe intersection, that is one giant shovel head and it doubles as a shield. Actually, if what I read/heard was correct, Red would still kinda be the Champion. Champion is the title given to someone who has beaten the previous Champion of that League. Which Red did. It could be that Blue/Lance (don't know which one, never finished SoulSilver) took over as Champion since Red "left his post" and went to train (who knows what he was doing) up there. I don't think Red was ever beaten but, instead was counted as quitting. Thus someone had to be an immediate Champion in his place. In addition, Red could probably pull out a pokemon for a few of his attacks. Not literally "pull out", but, for example, for his third jump, he could quickly open a poke ball, releasing a flying pokemon to use Fly and carry him upwards. I put a little blurb under Trivia (which is now gone Q_Q) and I wanted to know how you guys felt about it.

I always felt that the Espeon on Red's Gen II team was the odd one out. Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise are the Generation I starters, and Snorlax was a mandatory opponent. But why Espeon? Sure, it evolves from the gift Eevee, but it still felt odd. As people have noted similarities between Red and Ash, it felt a bit odd to just throw on a Pokemon that Ash never used. Then I just randomly remembered that Blue started with an Eevee in Yellow. As Red took all of the other starters, why couldn't he do the same for Eevee?

Also, it could explain another reason why Espeon was replaced in HGSS. As Yellow didn't receive a remake like Red and Green, there wouldn't be any need to reference it. (Pikachu is safe since it references the anime and is the mascot.)

Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green are newer games, meaning that they should replace canon set by previous games. Some argue that this is not true as you can only recreate Red's team from GSC and HGSS in Pokemon Yellow as this is the only game you can get all three starters, but this is false. Red's team in those games are based off of in-game event Pokemon obtained in his games. Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise represent the four possible starter Pokemon in the games while Snorlax, Espeon and Lapras are simply in-game event pokemon that almost everyone obtains(excluding espeon as it is a gen 2 Pokemon but you get an Eevee nonetheless.)This team is selected so that any choice of starter you can choose in the games can technically be considered canonical. You can also obtain all of these Pokemon in the remakes of red and blue through trading.
