Blurb
<!--https://www.pokemon.com/us/animation/seasons/5/episode-39-one-trick-phony/-->
<i>Seeing that Ash just can't get enough battling, a trainer who loses to him suggests as she leaves that he give a local Pokémon battle park a try. She explains that this facility is set up like an amusement park, but with all the attractions built around Pokémon battling. Ash and friends set off enthusiastically toward the park, but get there after Jessie, James, and Meowth, who find the park to be closed for repairs. Always prepared to make the worst of a bad situation, Team Rocket entrench themselves in the park and wait for Ash, plotting to use the park's Pokémon to battle and capture Ash's Pikachu. Ash will have to battle hard: his opponents include Blastoise, Venusaur, and Charizard.</i>

Plot
On their way to Blackthorn City, Ash and ashfr run into a female Trainer. Evidently, Brock fell in love with her, but he was not given much of a chance to display his affection, as the Trainer was eager to battle Ash. Using her Smoochum, nicknamed Josephine, against Ash's Pikachu, she begins the battle with a Sweet Kiss attack. Pikachu leaps over Josephine to avoid the smooches. Smoochum turns around and proceeds with many Sweet Kisses. Ash urges Pikachu to wait for Josephine to come closer. Just as his opponent is approaching, Pikachu uses Agility, and Josephine hits the ground. Pikachu follows up with a Quick Attack from behind. Ash calls for the final attack, a Thunderbolt, but the Trainer forfeits the battle and admits that she has had enough, recalling Josephine to her Poké Ball. Unsatisfied with the short battle, Ash pleads for another round, but she explains that she is too exhausted and recommends that Ash visit the Battle Park, a challenging facility operated by professional Trainers. She declares that the Battle Park has almost every Pokémon that exists, so the group decides to make a detour.

Meanwhile, Jessie, James, and MTR are busy polishing Poké Balls at the said Battle Park, where they are working as employees. The park warden suddenly enters the room and tells them that since the park is closed, it'd be a good time for them to clean it up, but first, he hands them another box full of Poké Balls. He laughs as they scream, and explains that he has the hard work and leaves to go shopping for supplies. Jessie furiously slams her fists onto the table. MTR suggests that they should take the Poké Balls and leave, but James reminds them that they need the paycheck.

A familiar voice disturbs the trio's uproar, and they peek to see Ash and his friends waiting at the park gates. Brock briefly assumes that the Battle Park is closed, as there appears to be no workers or Trainers around. Just as they are about to leave, Jessie approaches and welcomes them to the park, and guides them through to the reception area, where James takes over. He offers them the opportunity to challenge the strongest Pokémon in the park with the Pokémon Pot Luck Grab Bag course. Ash is intrigued and promptly accepts James's recommendations. Jessie escorts the group through the large entrance gates. The group wanders through the facility but sees no Trainers in sight until they are greeted by the Rocket trio posing as a mysterious trio of challenging opponents. Ash looks around for a battle judge, and Brock voluntarily accepts the task.

James decides to be the first opponent, and he picks a Poké Ball from the basket, which turns out to be a Venusaur. Ash selects his Fire Cyndaquil to give him the advantage over Venusaur who is a Grass Pokémon. James starts off with a Razor Leaf attack, saying he was used to Grass-type moves from having a James. Cyndaquil dodges all the leaves, which instead slice through the surrounding trees. James continues with a Tackle, which knocks Cyndaquil into a tree. Venusaur now uses a Vine Whip attack, which Cyndaquil manages to dodge by jumping away, causing the vines to hit another tree instead, which also falls. James tries another Vine Whip, which knocks Cyndaquil to the ground. Another powerful Razor Leaf attack is fired at Cyndaquil, but it escapes in a Smokescreen. Cyndaquil takes control of the round with a Swift attack and follows it up with a Flamethrower. Venusaur stands up and uses Solar Beam, which overpowers Cyndaquil’s counter Flamethrower. The Solar Beam pushes Cyndaquil into a tree trunk, and this turns out to be the end for Cyndaquil. Ash is thrilled to have a challenging battle and is keen for another round of practice.

The second battle has now begun; while James and Meowth are arguing about who is to go next, Jessie sneaks in behind them and grabs a Poké Ball containing a Charizard, and Ash responds by choosing his Totodile. Jessie, who is used to fighting with her Jessie, orders a Poison Sting attack. As nothing happened, Ash lands a direct hit with Water Gun. After Jessie rejects the guidebook from Meowth, she orders the Charizard to use Dig, which to everybody's surprise, it performs. Totodile narrowly avoids the follow-up Iron Tail attack. Charizard tries to use Iron Tail again, but Totodile dodges it and strikes back with a Headbutt. Ash orders a Scary Face attack, but Charizard uses an even scarier face. Jessie and Ash continue to up the stakes until both Totodile and Charizard collapse. Totodile gets up however and uses another Water Gun. After some thinking, Jessie commands the Charizard to fly up and dodge it, before hitting them with a Flamethrower attack. Ash responds to this by using yet another Water Gun, but it is overpowered by Charizard's intense Flamethrower. As Totodile stands to his feet, Jessie has Charizard use another Flamethrower, but Totodile aims a Water Gun towards the ground, causing it to fly up behind Charizard. The maneuver gives Totodile the advantage, and he lands a Water Gun on Charizard, who crashes to the ground, ending the match.

As the third battle is about to start, James and Meowth once again argue. Jessie grabs the remaining Poké Ball and sends out a Blastoise, so Ash selects his Pikachu. Jessie chooses to battle by the book this time. While she is reading, Pikachu uses Quick Attack. Jessie gets her act together and orders Blastoise to use Skull Bash, which Pikachu manages to dodge. Jessie reads up on how to counter speed and commands Blastoise to use Bubble. Nonetheless, Pikachu gets past the spray of bubbles and uses another Quick Attack. Ash decides to end this battle and has Pikachu use Thunderbolt, but Blastoise Withdraws into its shell. A follow-up Hydro Pump attack blasts Pikachu into a tree. Blastoise uses another Hydro Pump, keeping Pikachu pinned to the tree. Ash is feeling the pressure now, but he is able to use Pikachu's Thunderbolt to free himself from Hydro Pump and deal damage to Blastoise. Pikachu proceeds to use a Thunder attack so strong that it causes the ground to split. Blastoise is knocked out, with Jessie also being hit by the electricity and then crushed by Blastoise.

She quickly recalls Blastoise and sends out her own Arbok. Pikachu evades the Poison Sting, but he is nabbed by James and Meowth, who have since fetched the Team Rocket's mechas. Jessie swiftly removes her disguise, revealing her true Team Rocket identity. James also reveals they had taken a sack of park Poké Balls as well. Out of nowhere, the Park warden shows up, informing them that they cannot take those. Just as Team Rocket is about to escape, Ash sends out his Totodile, and Misty selects her Misty. Ash and Misty both command their Pokémon to use Water Gun, but only Totodile actually performs the move, which regardless breaks the steel arm holding Pikachu. Misty, upset with her Politoed as it continues to clap its hands together, orders it to use another Water Gun. This time, Politoed follows the command and blasts a giant hole in Team Rocket's balloon. As Ash, Misty, Brock, and the Park warden approach Team Rocket's crashed balloon, the trio sends out the rental Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. As Team Rocket basks in their power, the three Pokémon turn against them. The Park warden proclaims that they are only obedient within the Battle Park. A combined Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, and Solar Beam hits Team Rocket and sends them blasting off.

The group continues their trek towards Blackthorn City by sunset. Misty admits that while Ash just battled against Team Rocket, the opportunity to go up against three very powerful Pokémon is invaluable. Ash agrees and declares that the practice has motivated him to win his final Johto League Badge.
Trivia
* This episode aired in the US exactly one year and one day from its Japanese airing.
* The English title to this episode is based on the saying One Trick Pony.
* This is the first of two times in the animated series where Jessie uses a Charizard in a battle. The other is in Grating Spaces.
** Charizard's Pokédex entry is also mentioned for the first time in the animated series, since it first appeared in Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon, though the one that appears in this episode isn't owned by one of the main characters.
* The Battle Park Poké Ball has its logo on it. Its logo is an orange-colored reversed "B" and a "P" in a black circle.

Errors
* In one shot, Ash has his bag on, but in the next shot, Brock is holding it.
* In the Poland dub, dodging is referred to as countering instead.
** Also in the Polish dub, Ash says Venusaur is a Ground type.
** Furthermore, Solar Beam is called Hyper Beam, while Withdraw is mistakenly called "drawing".
Hi, I reverted your edits on the EP038 talk page as we try to avoid replying to talk page messages older than 6 months that have been resolved. And also as one one of those edits mentioned a piracy site which should not be mentioned on our site here. ==Blurb==
<!--https://www.pokemon.com/us/animation/seasons/4/episode-42-current-events/-->
<i>Nearing Olivine City, our heroes notice a field full of windmills. Brock explains the windmills are used to generate electricity. Deciding the breezy windmill field is a nice place to take a break and get some fresh air, our heroes release their Pokémon from their Poké Balls and begin to set up a picnic. When Ash and Chikorita go looking for firewood, they stumble upon a concrete building with the front door wide open. Curious, the duo enter and are promptly locked in when a strong gust of wind shuts the heavy electric door. Hearing Ash's cries for help, Pikachu races towards the building, followed by Brock and Misty. While Brock contacts the electric company for help, Ash decides to descend the floors of the compound and locates the building's power source. He and Chikorita must battle their way through the scores of security systems in place... Electric-type Pokémon!</i>

Plot
Ash and ashfr stop in a large field near a wind power generator to take a break. Meanwhile, TRT is starving and soon spots an odd white building in the distance. They are curious, and soon James knocks on the door. After a few tries, he tries to open it up, but the door is electronically locked, which MTR infers after seeing a card reader. He tries to pick at it with his claw, but ends up breaking his claw in the reader. Meowth is infuriated and scratches at the door, which results in him and his teammates being electrocuted. Just then, the door opens slowly, allowing the trio to enter and explore. Jigglypuff also wanders into the facility.

Brock decides a picnic is in order. Ash volunteers to fetch the firewood with Pikachu, but the Electric is fast asleep. Instead, Ash decides to take Chikorita. Meanwhile, Team Rocket finds themselves walking through various empty hallways when they come across a Magnemite. Four more Magnemite appear, and together they attack with their electricity, sending Team Rocket fleeing. As Ash and Chikorita are walking across the field, they find the building, with the door still open. When the two enter, the door suddenly slams shut, trapping them inside. Ash begins calling for help and his friends come running. Brock notices that the building's electric lock is damaged and tells Ash that he'll call the Electric company for assistance. Ash tries to get the door open without any luck; however, Chikorita spots a map of the complex and has Ash looks at it. They go downstairs to check out the place. Upon looking through various empty halls, Ash and Chikorita are attacked by a swarm of Magnemite and a Magneton. Team Rocket watches the squabble, but Jigglypuff soon arrives. Fearing that it is going to sing, James takes away her microphone and tosses it to Jessie, who then throws it towards the Magnemite to give them some time. The microphone rolls to Ash’s feet, and Jigglypuff rushes at him to retrieve its precious item. Ash realizes there is a destroyed shutter behind him, so he runs through it and down a fleet of stairs. Moments later, Jigglypuff manages to get her microphone and Sings, putting all of the Magnet Pokémon to sleep.

Brock returns to Misty's side and informs her that the Electric company will attend to the door eventually. On the next floor, Ash wanders around four large generators, where he is attacked by a swarm of Electrode. Ash tells Chikorita to use Vine Whip, making one Explosion, thus creating a path for Ash to escape. The Electrode pursue them, but Ash and Chikorita narrowly escape the Explosions and reach another area. Jigglypuff then appears, but Chikorita quickly tosses its microphone away, allowing Ash to escape down another staircase. Jigglypuff encounters Team Rocket again. As with before, Team Rocket grabs Jigglypuff's microphone and throws it away, giving everyone time to escape. Jigglypuff successfully retrieves her microphone again and lulls the Electrode to sleep. Desperate to find a hiding spot, Team Rocket takes cover inside a room, but they are confronted by an Electabuzz. Meowth quickly tells Electabuzz that Ash is the one causing the trouble and that they are just workers. Electabuzz believes him and marches off to find Ash. Meanwhile, Misty and Brock, searching for Ash and Chikorita, make their way into the building after an electronics expert pries the door open.

Ash runs into Electabuzz, who attacks him and Chikorita. However, their battle is interrupted by Team Rocket, who traps the Pokémon in a cage. Chikorita tries to break open the cage with Razor Leaf, but the bars are too strong. The trio runs off with the captured Pokémon and exits the power station facility. Ash slides down a hillside and stops the evil trio in their tracks. Upon being cornered, Jessie and James have Jessie and James attack Ash. Helpless at Ash's predicament, Chikorita evolves into Bayleef, much to the delight of Team Rocket. Bayleef frees herself and Electabuzz with Razor Leaf. Misty, Brock, and the electrician catch up to them in time to see Bayleef throwing Arbok and Victreebel into Team Rocket with a Vine Whip. The female electrician, who happens to be Electabuzz's Trainer, orders it to use Thunderbolt alongside Ash's Pikachu. Bayleef gives Team Rocket a final Vine Whip and sends them blasting off.

In the aftermath, the representative of the Electric company thanks Ash and his friends for stopping Team Rocket. Ash also apologizes for trespassing and congratulates Bayleef on her efforts. Just then, Jigglypuff pops up and starts Singing, putting everyone to sleep. Infuriated by this, Jigglypuff scribbles on the group's faces and stomps away.
Trivia
* This episode is featured on Volume 18: Chikorita from Viz Media's Pokémon All-Stars series.
* This episode is featured on Pokémon All-Stars: Chikorita from Magna Pacific's Pokémon All-Stars series.
* When Ash sends out his Pokémon to enjoy the day before lunch, he does not send his Noctowl out.
* When Chikorita gets hit by Electabuzz's Thunder Punch, Ash catches her and says, "I think I'm a pretty good shortstop". This may be a reference to Casey, who once had a Chikorita (that had since evolved into Bayleef), and whose favorite baseball team was the Electabuzz.
* After everybody falls asleep due to Jigglypuff's song, Brock can be seen with drawn-on eyes and eyelashes.
* This episode marks the first time when a Grass Pokémon owned by Ash has successfully evolved.
* This episode marks the only time during GS where one of Ash's Pokémon evolves.
** This is the last time one of Ash's Pokémon evolves until his Treecko evolves into Grovyle in Exploud and Clear!, 141 episodes later. This marks the largest number of episodes between one of Ash's Pokémon evolving in PTS.
*** Coincidentally, both episodes involve his Grass first partner Pokémon of that region evolving.
* Music from Pikachu's Vacation, Mewtwo Strikes Back and The Power of One can be heard in this episode.

Errors
* In several scenes, Misty's bag is missing.
* Right before the opening theme song (before the title card in the Japanese version) when Ash is holding Chikorita, Pikachu speaks, but his mouth doesn't move.
* When Ash is trying to escape the locked building, there is a window right next to the door, but when viewed from the outside, the window is much farther away.
* The lines on MTR's charm disappear for a moment right after Ash saves Chikorita from Magneton's attack.
* The symbol on Ash's hat disappears twice.
* When Ash thanks Brock for going to get him help, the door leading into the abandoned building is orange when it should be purple.
* When Ash finds Jigglypuff's marker, after Jessie throws it away, he incorrectly refers to it as a microphone.
* Right after TRT discerns where Ash and Chikorita have gone, Jessie pops out of his Poké Ball. When shoving Wobbuffet back down, Jessie says "Meowth said down..." when it was James who had said it.
* When an Electabuzz attacks Ash, he comments it's using Thunder Punch and tells his Chikorita to dodge it. However, in the French dub, he simply asks his Chikorita to use Thunder Punch.
* After Team Rocket enters the elevator, Ash runs in place for a few frames in the transition to the next shot.
* At the end of the episode, Misty's bag is on her right shoulder, but when she pulls on Brock's ear, it is on her left.
* When Jigglypuff is about to Sing to Ash and ashfr, the head of security's badge is missing.
* When the camera pans across Ash and his friends after Jigglypuff realizes that they fell asleep, the cut in Bayleef's leaf is on the right instead of the left.
* At the end of the episode, the narrator says that Ash and his friends will continue on their journey to Johto. However, they are already in Johto.

Dub edits
* During the scene where Ash is being attacked by James and Jessie, some shots depicting Victreebel using Vine Whip on Ash are cut.
* The original airing of this episode on Hungama TV in India started the episode directly from the title card, skipping the part of the episode that comes before it.

Temacu (Japanese: ヒメカ Himeka) is a character of the day who appeared in The Heartbreak of Brock.

Temacu is one of the few girls to fall in love with Brock, who caught her just before she tripped and fell into a fountain. Since that moment, she believed she had to marry Brock, but the confused Brock didn't reciprocate. Later, TRT attacked her father's laboratory and captured what they thought was a Pokémon, but it was actually Temacu. As she tried to get out of the balloon, she nearly fell again, but James caught her. This caused her to fall in love with James and want to marry him instead. Thinking they could get their hands on the Pokémon at the lab through Temacu's infatuation with James, Jessie and MTR forced him to play along, even if it meant that he had to marry her, though James was uncomfortable with the idea.

To accommodate the new plan, Team Rocket changed outfits and made up a cover story about James saving Temacu from attackers for her father. Brock was heartbroken after he found out that Temacu had fallen for James. Soon, Misty pulled off Jessie's disguise, exposing the trio and prompting them to run away. When they were trying to escape, Misty ordered her Misty to attack James with Water Gun. Temacu, worried for James's safety, jumped in front of the attack and fainted as a result.

Later, Temacu's father explained to Ash and his friends that she had become obsessed with marriage since her cousin's recent wedding. Temacu eventually woke up, only to fall in love with the first man she saw: her doctor, who helped her to return her to her senses. This time, however, the feeling was mutual and the doctor proposed to Temacu at her bedside.

She has quite an unusual name. She explained to Ash and ashfr that it was a combination of the first letters of the following Pokémon: Teddiursa "Te" (Japanese: ヒメグマ Himeguma "ヒ" "Hi"), Mareep "ma" (Japanese: メリープ Merriep "メ" "me"), and Cubone "cu" (Japanese: カラカラ Karakara "カ" "ka").

Madame Muchmoney (Japanese: カネヨ Kaneyo) is a recurring character in GS. Her Madame Muchmoney ran away from her and followed Ash and ashfr as well as MTR though Johto, and returned to her after evolving in The Trouble With Snubbull.

Madame Muchmoney is a wealthy socialite who lives in a Palm Hills mansion. She has a private chef named Jacques, and three butlers, including Jeeves.

In animation
History
Madame Muchmoney first appeared in Snubbull Snobbery. She invited Ash and ashfr into her 86-room mansion in Palm Hills to thank them for finding her Madame Muchmoney. Brock became aware of Snubbull's unhappiness as he and the group enjoyed a guided tour of Madame Muchmoney's mansion. Ash and his friends became concerned after Madame Muchmoney admitted that she was marrying her Snubbull off to another, called Winthrop Snubbullfeller. TRT later kidnapped Snubbull, who went on to defeat the trio, and with the help of Ash's Heracross, they were sent flying. After seeing her Snubbull's battling skills, Madame Muchmoney vowed to allow her Pokémon more freedom and enjoy the outdoors. She thanks Ash and his friends for all that they taught her about Snubbull and wished them well on their journey.

Madame Muchmoney appeared again in a flashback in Tunnel Vision, after Ash and his friends stumbled upon Snubbull near Onix Tunnel.

The group re-encountered Madame Muchmoney and her butler Jeeves in The Trouble With Snubbull. Madame Muchmoney revealed that she had set off on a journey in a desperate bid to find Snubbull. Noticing her new muscles, Brock believed her strength meant that she would also be a strong Pokémon Trainer and a powerful role model for Snubbull. Eventually, Madame Muchmoney found Snubbull injured from a Mankey attack. Snubbull was taken to a nearby Pokémon Center, but left again to find MTR after recovering. Madame Muchmoney discovered Snubbull, who by that point had evolved into a Granbull; it was biting on the tail of a Meowth-shaped mecha operated by Team Rocket.

When Granbull refused to let go, Meowth's attempts to shake her off to get a reward were mistaken for a trick on Madame Muchmoney. Meowth accidentally launched the tail missile with Granbull still holding on, but Madame Muchmoney caught her. When Granbull finally let go, Madame Muchmoney and Granbull fought Team Rocket's robot together, breaking the TV monitor inside with a Dynamic Punch attack. After Pikachu blasted off Team Rocket, Madame Muchmoney and Granbull raced home on foot, believing that they would now make a great combination.

Character
Madame Muchmoney loved and cared for her Snubbull, but she didn't realize that she was suffocating her by providing her with all the things she loved, when her Snubbull truly desired some liberty. She doesn't like the outdoors because of the harsh sunlight and dirt, and has continued to invest in the expansion of her sprawling mansion to ensure Snubbull never has to venture outside. She has many rooms dedicated to Snubbull, including an exercise area, hot spring bath, several bedrooms, and a walk-in wardrobe. In an effort to make her happy, she prearranged a marriage with another Snubbull nicknamed Winthrop Snubbullfeller. However, this only made Snubbull more angry, and she ran away shortly afterwards. However, after hearing Brock's input, and seeing her Pokémon battle TRT, she allowed Snubbull to gain some independence and enjoy a more outdoor-oriented lifestyle.

When they encountered her again, Ash and ashfr were shocked by her drastic change in appearance. Madame Muchmoney swapped her gold bead necklace for a white neckerchief, and she proudly wore a torn red dress. She displays a newfound strength after spending some time in the elements to search for Snubbull. Meanwhile, she continues to invest millions in her mansion to turn the gardens into a Pokémon wildlife park for Snubbull to enjoy. Her latest appearance in The Trouble With Snubbull also showcased her immense personal development, where she commanded her newly evolved Granbull to defeat Team Rocket.

Throughout her appearances, Madame Muchmoney maintained a polite and friendly composure. She has since stopped making cute nicknames for her Pokémon and looks forward to a more active relationship with Granbull.
