He is [[Olivine City]] [[Gym Leader]] [[Jasmine]]'s grandfather. His English voice actor is [[Jimmy Zoppi]] and his Japanese voice actor is 中嶋聡彦 ''Toshihiko Nakajima''.

He helped Jasmine to take care of [[Amphy|Sparkle]] when it was ill. Later in the show, he advised {{Ash}} to challenge the [[Cianwood Gym]] before challenging Jasmine, to give her time to get ready for battle.

His shirt has oranges on it, which may be a reference to Jasmine's Japanese name, Mikan, which is a type of citrus fruit.

As a Chikorita, Mega was left on his own after Silver stole Totodile and Gold took Cyndaquil. It wanted to go on adventures with a Trainer. However, Crystal had no plans of adding new Pokémon to her team, and he ran away from the lab to convince her. When he finally got to Crystal, she atempted to catch it, thinking it was a wild Pokémon. Mega became mad about this, so Crys made him fight against Hitmonee, and due to his mega-courage, Crys decided to name him Mega, and took him along with her. Since all of Crys's team members have a star theme, Chumee gave him its star pendant. Mega evolved in ''[[PS135|Larvitar's Too Cunning]]'' when he battled the Larvitar that attacked her Arcanine in the past. At the [[Whirl Islands]], while fighting alongside [[Explotaro]] and [[Silver's Feraligatr|Croconaw]], Mega became a Meganium when the three evolved at the same time. He teamed up with the other starters to defeat Guile's Kyogre in the end of the Emerald arc.
