Seribii has no information on obtaining one in XY, Pokemon.wikia [http://pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/Starf_Berry states 250] and I found two answers on game FAQs, [http://www.gamefaqs.com/3ds/696960-pokemon-y/answers?qid=361189 one stating 200], the other saying [http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/696959-pokemon-x/67644327 '200 ... up to 252'] which at least suggests 250 as a plausible upper limit. Though given this could all be misinformation from the contradiction, perhaps the only way to find out for sure is to either get a 200 win streak or consult an official guidebook? :I doubt it. There is no indication that any events in the non-handheld games are canon to the basic storyline, so there's no real point to including it here. On another note, it's my personal opinion that this needs to be moved to a different article, because there isn't much of the history that has been confirmed; most of it, as has been mentioned, is legend and theory. ::Well, the Pokemon Ranger games seem to actually reference events from the games (and also is the reason why {{p|Manaphy}} even exists in the main games.) If we aren't going to count the Ranger games are canon to the basic storyline, then we shouldn't count Manaphy as canon, either, since that's the only EVENT pokemon in the main series that debuted in a side game/spinoff game rather than in the main game series. Besides, since we can't transfer any prior gen pokemon onto the R/S/E/FR/LG game packs, Pokemon Colosseum is currently the only legit way to even ACQUIRE Celebi (though this is only in the Japanese version), and it (as well as it's sequel, Gale of darkness) is also the only OTHER legit way to acquire Ho-Oh and Lugia if you didn't get the Mystic tickets in the Emerald/FR/LG versions. now, for games like Mystery dungeon, yes, those SHOULDN'T be counted as canon in there, since that's an Alt universe. :I don't think that Steel is newly DISCOVERED type. It's just newly classified type out of those we actually had (the Steel Pokémon could be identified as Rock Pokémon before). Going through this article, all I see is fan speculation and unusual conclusions. I for one would like to see some evidence of these claims, as many of them see totally made-up. *Ok, about the reason why Mew from Mewtwo Strikes Back being different from the Mew from Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, it's for a couple of reasons. Yes, the voice doesn't necessarily mean much, however, MSB's Mew's Japanese VA was definitely in the 8th Movie as he (she? I don't really know the VA's gender) was the one who voiced Sir Aaron in that Movie. I mean, why would they give Mew a different VA (assuming that it IS the same one) if it's original VA is still very much available? Plus, the one from Movie 1 was very far from Kanto, and If this were the same mew, it would spend most of it's time inside of a Lake/Jungle than in a deciduous forest with a [[Tree of Beginning|Tree-like Rock formation]], not to mention that MSB's Mew lives a considerably far distance from Kanto, or heck, any of the regions that have been seen thus far, while LatMoM's Mew was located, if not in Kanto, then just barely beyond the border. As for the multiple parts, I'm guessing the fossilized remains of a Mew, as well as it being a genetic ancestor to every pokemon seems to answer that question.) Don't forget that the first Mew was seen to be sleeping underwater, possibly for a long time, untill Mewtwo unleashed his power on the world, creating storms and kidnapping the Nurse Joy of the city. The most recent Mew, was seen to have been connected to the Tree of Beginning, so it should be assumed Mew can't be away from it for long periods of time (longer than seen in the movie). And it and the Tree are so closely connected, when Mew would be damaged in the first movie, the Tree would also sustain damage. And the first Mew is also living in the Johto area, not Kanto. This article is really very well done as it sums up everything so those supposed continuity errors are straingtened out (such as the "Which came first? Arceus or Mew?" paradox). But I really think it needs a cleanup. All it has are random dot points on Pokemon that aren't related. Clean it up!

I've had an interesting theory, which could solve the Arceus/Mew paradox. Arceus may have created the universe, but what if Mew came around before the universe was created, and Arceus sort of descended from it? Also, Mew is the ANSCESTOR of all Pokémon, not necassarily their creator. So if Arceus created Dialga and Palkia and the Lake Trio, then they are still anscestors of Mew, because Arceus is.

How could Kyogre have expanded the sea with the help of Manaphy and Lugia when it went to sleep millions of years before, and wasn't woken up again until the events of Generation III? I think that, considering the fact that the Pokémon world is very similar to our own, the sea was probably created the same way that Earth's sea was, and that the theory of it being created by Pokémon is simply a legend. There is definately no archaelogical evidence that it was expanded by Pokémon! Maybe, until we are certain, we shouldn't mention how the sea was created like it is fact. The article claims that the first writing system was created 1500 years before Generation 1. If this is based on present time, the first writing system was created in 500 AD. I haven't done any research yet, but I'm just noting that in our world, writing was created in about 2500 BC (Egyptians). This would be 4500 years before the present. :Writing first came about around 3400-3000 BC. It's still disputed wether Egypt or Mesopotamia had the oldest writing system. And for your second question, yes. Mamoswine are based off of woolly mammoths, so their history is almost the same as in our world. Farfetch'd have been mentioned somewhere, for their history, but I can't remember. I've been toying with some ideas on an alternate view of the game's history based on a few key facts. Essentially, there must be some concrete level of parallelism between the real world and the Pokémon world, if everything in the games is taken as canon:

*Most (or many) Pokémon are classified by what type of animal they are (Pikachu is a "Mouse Pokémon", etc.), so it can be assumed that Pokémon were not prevalent as a whole in the universe until sometime within the realm of documented history; otherwise, animals would be classified by what Pokémon they are like (if there are even normal animals in the game; the only real indication I know of is the aquarium in the Cerulean City gym in the anime).
*From that point, two options emerge:
**Pokémon evolved from actual animals sometime approximately within the realm of documented history, then out-competed normal animals to near, if not total, extinction. This must have occurred within documented history, for surely even a minute population of a given species of Pokémon would quickly dominate any corresponding animal (e.g., two Pikachu could flourish against thousands of normal mice).
**Pokémon were suddenly introduced into the universe. This could have resulted from several things: Dialga/Palkia/Giratina essentially control all of space-time, so Pokémon could have been transferred from a totally different universe; a population of Mew that existed on the planet beyond human influence, because of some external influence, suddenly evolved into all manner of other Pokémon; or something to that effect.
*Taking the Pokédex entries as fact, refer to Golduck's entry from R/B, which makes mention of the "Japanese monster [[wp:Kappa_(folklore)|Kappa]]." This implies not only that Japan as a country exists in the Pokémon world, but also that its historical and cultural development must have been largely similar to its real-life history, or else such a legend would likely have never existed.

In B2W2 there are Magma and Aqua grunts that have formed a family both say they were part of the teams in R/S/E "Several years ago". This means R/S/E happens several years before the events of B2W2 which can be anywhere between 3 to 11 years before B2W2 which puts it before Black and White's story anyway. Forgive me, however after scanning through this article it bugs me that the only reasoning (which I can find) for Gen III and Gen I being concurrent is speculation and that doesn't sit well with me.

We know that Gen I and II are three years apart as that's mentioned repeatedly in G/S/C/HG/SS and B/W and B2/W2 are two years apart for the same reason.

We can derive that BW2 takes place after the events of RSE because of the Former Aqua/Magma couple in Iccarus, as we can derive it's after the events of Gen II and IV as Team Rocket and Galatic's failures are mention in N's castle in B/W.

Despite this, it doesn't nessessarily mean that D/P/Pt must be concurrent with G/S/C, likewise with R/S/E and R/B/Y, unless I've missed something?

As for Spin-Offs, admittedly the only one I've played is Ranger 2 and for all I know that could be before R/B/Y as it could be after BW2.

On the ninth floor, the control room for the [[Altru Tower|Incredible Machine]] can be found. It is also where the [[Yellow Gem]] is stored. Also on the ninth floor are several research rooms, a trash dump and a restroom.

On the Altru Building's roof is the entrance to Altru Tower.

Coins are items that can be used in-game when a move, status effect or ability requires you to flip a coin. The different coins don't have different effects, they just look different. The three starting coins are a yellow {{p|Shaymin}} coin, a blue coin with the different energies on it and a silver Pokémon coin which will be the back of your chosen coin. Your opponent always has a red {{p|Arceus}} coin with a regular backing.

==Pokémon decks==

Nine decks have so far been made available to players, with two decks each under the types {{TCG|Grass}}, {{TCG|Fire}}, and {{TCG|Water}}. Three, {{TCG|Basic Red}}, {{TCG|Basic Blue}}, and {{TCG|Basic Green}}, are available to use anytime. The other six, {{TCG|Red Frenzy}}, {{TCG|Green Tornado}}, {{TCG|Blue Assault}}, {{TCG|Night Hunter}}, {{TCG|Toxic Tricks}}, and {{TCG|Power Play}} are only available is players redeem codes from actual decks they have bought from stores. The first three decks have twelve cards that can be unlocked as players play through Trainer Challenge. These cards automatically replace certain cards in the deck the player used.

In all, 1447 cards are listed on the website, covering the expansions {{TCG|Majestic Dawn}} through {{TCG|Black & White}}, as well as the six Basic {{TCG|Energy cards}} from {{TCG|Diamond & Pearl}}.

'''Pokémon Pinball''' is a spin-off [[Pinball|pinball]] game for the [[Game Boy Color]]. The cartridge was unique at the time among Game Boy games in that it includes a rumble pack powered by a single AAA battery, providing force feedback in much the same way as controllers for TV consoles. As the title suggests, the gameplay is pinball-based, but with a uniquely Pokémon-inspired spin. For example, the game is divided into two tables, the Red Field and the Blue Field, named after [[Pokémon Red and Blue Versions|the first paired versions released outside of Japan]], each with different table designs, accessible map locations, and catchable wild Pokémon.

The game received an update/sequel on the Game Boy Advance in the form of [[Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire]].

==Objective==
Although the game is now pinball instead of an RPG, the goal remains the same: to catch 'em all and complete the Pokédex. Beyond that and the ever-present goal of getting a high score, there is no storyline to speak of.

==Acquiring Pokémon==
Rather than catching Pokémon in any traditional manner, Pokémon Pinball requires players to play special game modes on the pinball table to catch and evolve their Pokémon and complete their Pokédex.

===Catch 'Em Mode===
In Catch 'Em Mode, the player enters by lighting up two or three "GET" lights by letting the ball pass a certain tab. If the player lights up three lights, he/she gets different Pokémon than if he/she lighted up two. When it starts, a Pokémon silhouette appears in the middle of the lower field, and the player must hit the bumpers to gradually turn all six pieces of it into color. Once that is done, the actual Pokémon appears there. Then the player must hit it three times to light up what says "CATCH!" two letters at a time. Once the player has caught it, he/she can evolve it in Evolution Mode. It also lights up one Poké Ball out of three which lets him/her reach the next Bonus Stage. The player has two minutes to complete Catch 'em! Mode.

===Evolution Mode===
Evolution mode is only accessible if the player has caught at least one Pokémon in Catch 'em! Mode. The player also has to light up three "EVO" lights activated in the same way as the GET lights. The player has to hit a spot where an arrow is pointing to on the field. Then the player can choose any one of the Pokémon they have caught. Then, depending on how the Pokémon evolves, the player has to have the ball hit either an "EX" for EXP., an evolution stone, or a link cable. The player has to do this three times, but occasionally the Pokémon can get tired and the player will have to wait a bit before an arrow appears again. Once the player is done, the player still has to get the ball into a hole to complete Evolution Mode. If the Pokémon is already fully evolved, then completing Evolution Mode will earn the player a 10,000,000 point bonus.

==Poké Ball==
Fittingly with the other Pokémon-inspired tweaks to the basic pinball formula, the ball is a [[Poké Ball]]. Each table has three lights near the top of the upper half that, when lit simultaneously, will upgrade the Poké Ball temporarily to the next better basic Poké Ball; the upgrades are the Great Ball, the Ultra Ball, and the Master Ball. Each upgrade multiplies the points gained on the table by a different multiplier: 2×, 3×, and 5×, respectively. Attempting to further upgrade a Master Ball will earn the player 10,000,000 bonus points.

==Bonus Tables==
Catching a Pokémon in Catch 'Em Mode will cause one Poké Ball icon to light up below the display on the lower portion of the field. Evolving a Pokémon in Evolution Mode will cause two of these lights to light up instead (or one if there is no room for two). Three of these lights can be lit at a time; when all three are lit, the player can shoot the ball into the center hole to access one of several bonus stages that are progressed through in a linear fashion; if the player completes one bonus stage, then when he lights up the Poké Ball lights again, he can enter the next stage. Each table has a separate progression of three bonus tables, with only the final stage on each table (the {{p|Mewtwo}} stage) being the same for both tables.

===Diglett Bonus Stage===
This is the first bonus stage on the Red Field.

This table features {{p|Diglett}} and {{p|Dugtrio}} and is unique among these five bonus stages in that it is the only one where, rather than a time limit being the defeat condition, allowing the player to have an infinite number of extra balls, instead the player only has one ball, and if the player loses it, exits the stage. When the stage begins, the field is covered with Diglett that, when hit with the ball, will retreat into the table. The player earns points for each Diglett he knocks down. When all the Diglett are knocked down, a Dugtrio appears in the back center portion of the table. Hitting the Dugtrio three times will earn bonus points and complete the bonus stage.

===Gengar Bonus Stage===
This is the second bonus stage on the Red Field.

This table is set in a graveyard where the player is attacked by several wild {{p|Gastly}}. Hitting ten Gastly with the ball will cause {{P|Haunter}} to appear instead. Hitting ten Haunter with the ball will draw out a giant {{p|Gengar}}. Hit Gengar five times to complete the stage. Hitting the necessary Pokémon will earn points. There is a time limit of 1:30 on the stage, as long as the player does not take this long to win, he/she can lose the ball an unlimited number of times without penalty.

===Meowth Bonus Stage===
This is the first bonus stage on the Blue Field.

A {{p|Meowth}} runs around the field. When the player hits Meowth with the ball, it will pause briefly and drop a pile of coins. Up to six piles of coins can be on the field at a time; if there are six, hitting Meowth any more will not cause more coins to appear. Collecting a pile of coins will earn points and cause a coin icon to appear at the top of the screen. Collecting coin piles consecutively without hitting Meowth will apply a multiplier to both the number of coin icons added to the top of the screen and the points earned. This multiplier is equal to the current number of coin piles consecutively collected, and thus can go no higher than 6×. Once the player has 20 coin icons on top of the screen, the bonus stage is completed; however, the player is allowed to continue the bonus stage until time runs out or until he loses his current ball to gain more points. There is a time limit of 1:00 on the stage, with unlimited extra balls (unless the stage is completed). Losing the ball before the stage is completed causes all the coin piles to disappear.

===Seel Bonus Stage===
This is the second bonus stage on the Blue Field.

Three {{p|Seel}} swim around underwater, visible by their silhouettes. Periodically, one will bring its head above water for a short time. Hitting a Seel's exposed head with the ball will cause it to duck back underwater, earning points and causing a circular icon to appear on top of the screen. Hitting multiple Seel consecutively without letting one duck underwater on its own will apply a multiplier to both the icons added to the top of the screen and the points earned. This multiplier doubles with each Seel hit, but can go no higher than 256x. Once the player has 20 icons on top of the screen, the stage is completed, but the player is allowed to continue and earn more points until either time runs out or he loses his ball. There is a time limit of 1:30 on the stage, with unlimited extra balls (unless the stage is completed). Losing the ball before the stage is completed resets the multiplier.

===Mewtwo Bonus Stage===
This is the third bonus stage on both the Red and Blue Fields.

{{p|Mewtwo}} stands in the back center of the otherwise open stage, surrounded by six black circles moving around him in a circular pattern. Hitting these circles will earn points and cause them to disappear momentarily. Hitting Mewtwo will also earn points. As the player hits Mewtwo more, the number of circles on the field will decrease gradually. Hitting Mewtwo 24 times will complete the stage. There is a time limit of 2:00 on the stage, with unlimited extra balls.

Once the Mewtwo stage is completed, the rotation will cycle back to the first bonus stage for the table being played.

==Map Move==

Part of the game revolves around traveling to different locations. The first location is determined at the start of the game, and the current location is displayed in the screen on the lower half of the table when not in any of the special modes. By hitting certain triggers on each table (see below under "Field Mechanics"), the player can trigger Map Move mode, during which the player has 30 seconds to hit certain targets on the table, and if they are all hit, the player will move to a random new location, where different wild Pokémon can be caught. Each table has a distinct set of locations, with only a handful of overlaps. The locations are divided into three areas, the first three locations will be selected from the first area, then two from the second area, the sixth location will be the Indigo Plateau, after which the areas will repeat.

==Slots==

By lighting up all four "CAVE" lights at the top of the four lanes, the player makes the "Slots" bonus available. This makes the center hole open, and by shooting the ball into it, the player activates the slots. A slot reel will spin around and eventually slows and stops (the player can make it slow earlier with the 'A' button). The player is then awarded one of the following bonuses:

* Small: A bonus of 100 - 900 points.
* Big: A bonus of 1,000,000 - 9,000,000 points.
* Get: Starts Catch 'Em Mode.
* Evo: Starts Evolution Mode.
* Saver: For the next 30/60/90 seconds, if the ball is drained it will be returned to the plunger and immediately launched.
* Pikachu: For the rest of this ball the Pikachu kickback will always save the ball if it goes into the out lanes.
* Upgrade: The ball is upgraded to the next level, increasing the score multiplier.
* Extra: The player receives an extra ball.
* Bonus multiplier: The bonus multiplier is increased.
* Go to bonus: The player immediately plays the next bonus stage.

Note that the player can light up the four "CAVE" lights at any time, however the slots will only become available when the player is not in Catch 'Em, Evolution or Map Move modes and the bonus stage is not available.

==Field Mechanics==
On each field, various Pokémon appear, taking the place of more traditional pinball obstacles like switches and bumpers.

===Red Field===
* {{p|Voltorb}}: Three appear at the center of the top screen. They serve as bumpers for the [[Poké Ball]] and also flip silhouette tiles in Catch 'Em Mode.
* {{p|Ditto}}: One is blocking the Evolution Mode trigger hole in the top left corner of the screen until the EVO lights are lit.
* {{p|Bellsprout}}: Bellsprout can swallow your ball; if at least two GET lights are lit, Catch 'Em Mode begins when this happens.
* {{p|Diglett}}: Hit either of the two Diglett three times to trigger Map Move mode.
* {{p|Staryu}}: Hit the button below Staryu to toggle whether or not the Poké Ball upgrade lights above the Voltorbs are accessible.

===Blue Field===
* {{p|Shellder}}: Three appear at the center of the top screen. They serve as bumpers for the [[Poké Ball]] and also flip silhouette tiles in Catch 'Em Mode.
* {{p|Cloyster}}: If the ball is sent to the right from the four-way intersection in the middle of the table, Cloyster will close it in its shell; if at least two GET lights are lit, Catch 'Em Mode begins when this happens.
* {{p|Slowpoke}}: If the ball is sent to the left from the four-way intersection in the middle of the table, Slowbro will swallow it; if all three EVO lights are lit, Evolution Mode begins when this happens.
* {{p|Poliwag}}: Hit the red button near Poliwag three times to trigger Map Move mode.
* {{p|Psyduck}}: Hitting the red button near Psyduck three times will also trigger Map Move mode.

===Both Fields===
*{{p|Pikachu}}: Pikachu can appear under either one of the exit lanes (from which the ball cannot normally be saved); Pikachu's location is toggled with the flipper buttons. If the ball would exit the table via the exit lane that Pikachu is under, if Pikachu is ready, then instead it will rebound the ball onto the field by using {{m|ThunderShock}}. Pikachu is readied by spinning a spinner on the right side of the large loop on each table. There is a gauge with a lightning bolt symbol in it to indicate how ready Pikachu is; it can only rebound the ball if this gauge is full.

==Trivia==
* On the Blue Field, the main background music shares its melody with the music played in [[Ecruteak City]] and [[Cianwood City]] in {{game2|Gold|Silver|Crystal}}. This inclusion predated Gold & Silver's release by 7 months.
* The Catch 'Em Mode music in the Blue Field is an instrumental version of the first opening song of the animation; "[[Aim to Be a Pokémon Master]]".
* The Red Field's background music shares its melody with the music played in [[Viridian City]], [[Saffron City]] and [[Pewter City]] in all the main series games that feature [[Kanto]], and [[Cerulean City]] in [[Generation II]].
* The Catch 'Em Mode music in the Red Field is based on the music that plays when one is riding one's [[bicycle]] in Red, Blue, and Yellow.
* The Music that plays during "Name Entry" was revised and used for [[Sootopolis City]]'s background theme.
* The Poké Ball upgrades all have a letter stamped on them that were not changed to match their localized names so the Great Ball has an S (for Super) and the Ultra Ball has an H (for Hyper). Of these, only the Master Ball would continue to be depicted with a letter stamped on it.

Sootopolis City is located inside a crater formed by a volcano. Many years ago, an underwater volcano erupted and forced itself up from the depths creating a crater, the hollowed volcano. Its crater emerged from the sea and became filled with rainwater. People soon started to dwell in the crater for its warm, fresh water and a city soon came forth. To get around the city, people have to climb many flights of stairs and {{m|Dive}} under the sea. Because of this, many of the locals are in good shape. Sootopolis has a fantastic nighttime view, the stars peer in through the top of the crater.

Sootopolis plays a major part in the games, as it is the location where the player has their first encounter with a legendary Pokémon, and obtains their final [[Badge]].

In the [[Pokémon games]], Sootopolis can only be reached by diving through an underwater cavern or by {{m|Fly}}ing. Sootopolis is surrounded by {{rt|126|Hoenn}}.

===Residential houses===
{{p|Barboach}} and {{p|Shroomish}} can be shown to a pair of residents, who will calculate their size and reward prizes of {{DL|Ether|Ether}}s and {{DL|Ether|Elixir}}s accordingly. In Pokémon Emerald, they will calculate the sizes of {{p|Seedot}} and {{p|Lotad}} instead.

===Sootopolis Gym===

* The background music used in this city is a remix of a music from [[Pokémon Pinball]], specifically that which plays during the "Name Entry" screen.
