Synopsis
The episode begins with the announcer, Freddy O'Martian announcing that the battle between Iris against Burgundy is going to begin very soon. Cilan says he is looking forward to seeing how much stronger Burgundy has gotten. Ash, Scraggy, Pikachu and Iris give Iris support. However, Burgundy says it'll be an easy win so Iris shouldn't get her hopes up. The referee announces that battle will now begin! Burgundy starts off by commanding Dewott to use Ice Beam. Ash is quite amazed. Iris dodges twice but then instead of dodging again it blocks it. Cilan says Dewott has gotten stronger and Iris may struggle. Georgia says that Iris must win so she can battle her. Bianca pokes Scraggy and says unlike Stephan, Scraggy has no muscles. She checks to see if Scraggy has muscles on its stomach, causing Scraggy to headbutt Bianca.

Continuing the battle, Dewott uses a Water Pulse which Excadrill dodges by using Dig. Burgundy tells Dewott to use Water Pulse in the dug up hole sending Excadrill flying! Dewott uses Razor Shell, but Excadrill counters with its Focus Blast. Trip then scans the pictures he took and says there's no point in watching anymore since he knows the battle style of the two. Masaomi says its extremely boring and he doesn't have to worry about either Iris or Burgundy winning against him. Iris commands Excadrill to use Drill Run but Dewott blocks it. However both of its scalchops fall off. Iris commands Excadrill to use Metal Claw, which Burgundy just lets it use Metal Claw over and over again. Iris tells Burgundy that Waters may be resistant to the Steel, but since Metal Claw was used repeatedly, it did a great deal of damage. However, this was all part of Burgundy's plan. Burgundy orders Dewott to use Revenge, which does lots of damage. Burgundy tells Dewott to finish the battle with a Razor Shell, which is countered by a Drill Run attack. Burgundy orders another Ice Beam which is countered again by a Focus Blast attack. Excadrill then defeats Dewott with a Dig-Drill Run combination, advancing her to the second round.

Everyone breaks for lunch at the Pokémon Center. Burgundy says next time, she'll get revenge on Iris and Cilan. However, Georgia says she'll be the one to defeat Iris, not Burgundy. Ash says hello to Trip and asks if Bianca is his first opponent. Trip rudely replies by saying Ash should worry about his own Pokémon and says Scraggy may have learned Focus Blast, but it hasn't mastered it yet. Later, Ash, tries to perfect Scraggy's Focus Blast. However, Ash and Scraggy have trouble perfecting it. However, Stephan says he and Sawk will help Scraggy. He says it would be good training for the 2nd round as well. However, Bianca comes and admires Stephan and his Sawk. Iris and Cilan come to tell Ash the Donamite is about to resume. Sawk punches one of the punching bags which is swung back and forth. Stephan then heads to the Donamite with Sawk. Masaomi then laughs at Sawk after they head out. Throh stops the moving punching bag and throws it, breaking the punching bag to bits!

The scene changes with Bakkie ordering her Simipour to use Low Sweep on Chakkie's Simisear knocking it out. The next match begins with Grace against Georgia. Georgia sends out Bisharp and Grace sends out her Druddigon. Georgia says this is a chance to show her Dragon Buster skills. Druddigon begins with Dragon Claw followed up by a Dragon Tail. But, Bisharp blocks the first attack and dodges the second. Georgia orders a Metal Sound then finishes Druddigon with an Iron Head.

The battle between Masaomi and Domon begins. Ash scans his Pokédex on Mienshao. Domon orders Mienshao to use Pound, which Throh swiftly dodges. Domon tells Mienshao to use Hi Jump Kick which Throh counters with Superpower, followed up by Seismic Toss. Throh finally finishes Mienshao with Circle Throw.

The final match of the first round begins, with Trip against Bianca. Bianca sends out her newly evolved Bianca, while Trip sends out Trip. Bianca orders an Arm Thrust attack, which is blocked by Conkeldurr's concrete pillars. Emboar uses Hammer Arm which is also blocked. Bianca tells Emboar to use Flamethrower which is once again blocked. Trip tells Conkeldurr to use Bulk Up. Then Conkeldurr uses Strength doing lots of damage. Then Trip orders Rock Tomb, successfully trapping Emboar. Bianca commands Emboar to use Arm Thrust to break out, but it's no use. Finally, Trip tells Conkeldurr to finish the battle with Stone Edge.
Physiology
Bisharp has a round red and black head resembling a helmet, topped with a gold, double-headed axe blade. Its face is shrouded by its "helmet" and is black and yellow. Its eyes are triangular with a black iris and white pupil. Its eye has a dark outline which gives the appearance of eyeliner. Its red, gold tipped shoulders resemble shoulder pads and its connecting torso and arms are colored black. Its hands are glove-like and metallic in appearance and have retractable blade-like appendages attached to them. On its torso are two bladed discs which resemble a ribcage. Down its body are two dark lines that run down and around to the back, which gives the appearance of it wearing armour. Its thighs are circular and red colored and progressively get thinner as they connect to the feet. The feet are long and split apart down the middle. Both feet are metallic and blade-like, the split down the middle somewhat resembles ungulate hooves and is also very similar to steel war boots, or possibly bladed leggings.
Trivia
* No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Bisharp and its Pawniard.
** The types it has are also the two types that were introduced in Generation II.
** This makes Bisharp and its pre-evolution the only Pokémon to have a double resistance to Ghost.
* Pawniard and Bisharp cannot learn any special moves by leveling up or breeding.
* Pawniard and Bisharp are the only Pokémon that can have Defiant as a non-Hidden Ability.

Origin
It looks similar to a knight and may be based on Arthurian legends of black knights. It may also have gained origin from the Kaijin style of Japanese monster movies, involving a humanoid creature that acts as a villain. There is also a resemblance to the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider Series' suited heroes.

Name origin
Bisharp is a combination of the word bishop, keeping with the chess theme in its evolutionary line, and the word sharp, describing its metal blades. Fittingly enough, if a pawn reaches the end of the opponent's side of the board, the player can choose to "promote" it to either a rook, knight, bishop, or queen, similar to how Pawniard evolves into Bisharp. Furthermore, it may also derive from bisect, which means "to cut or split into two", referencing the lethality of Bisharp's cutting abilities.

Kirikizan is probably derived from 切り刻む　kirikizamu, to mince and 斬 zan, to cut or slay.

It evolves from Pawniard starting at level 52.

Biology

Biology
Physiology
Bisharp has a round red and black head resembling a helmet, topped with a gold, double-headed axe blade. Its face is shrouded by its "helmet" and is black and yellow. Its eyes a triangular with a black iris and white pupil, its eye has a dark outline which gives the appearance of eyeliner.
