Professor Oak works in [[Professor Oak's Laboratory|his Laboratory]] in [[Pallet Town]] with his aides. He gave {{ga|Red}}, {{ga|Blue}} and {{ga|Leaf}} their first Starter Pokémon in {{game|Green}}, {{game|Red}}, {{game|Blue}}, {{game|Yellow}}, {{2v2|FireRed|LeafGreen}}. He is an idol to many Trainers and researchers, including [[Professor Elm]], and always plays an important supporting role in the many games that he appears in.

He was a childhood friend of [[Agatha]]. They remained good friends (some speculate that they were a couple) and top-class Pokémon Trainers until Oak stopped battling and became interested in Pokémon research. Agatha said that he became soft and started to regard him as a fool. However, Oak still affiliates with the [[Pokémon League]] as an adviser.

This implies that Oak was originally going to be able to be battled. In the data, Oak has Level 66 {{p|Tauros}}, Level 67 {{p|Exeggutor}}, Level 68 {{p|Arcanine}}, Level 70 {{p|Gyarados}} and one of the Kanto [[Starter Pokémon|starters]] at Level 69. This places his strength on-par with the player's rival and the Pokémon League champion. As well, four of his Pokémon are identical to the ones used by the champion, only higher level, so originally Oak may have been intended to be in the game as the champion, or at least another high-ranking Trainer. This is supported by an email on the PC in Oak's lab, from the Pokémon League issuing a challenge to all Trainers, then specifically requesting Oak to come visit them. The only known way to battle Oak is to use a special stat of 226 with the [[Mew glitch]], or [[cheating|cheat]].

Professor Oak was always well-known in [[Kanto]] but in [[Generation II]] and [[Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver]] he became more of a celebrity, a "star Pokémon Researcher", then. He started to be famous in [[Johto]] because of his Radio Show with [[DJ Mary]]. He was going to turn down the show at first but [[DJ Mary|Mary]]'s energy and persistence wore him down. {{ga|Gold}}/{{ga|Kris}}/{{ga|Kotone}} first met him visiting the home of [[Mr. Pokémon]], another of Oak's childhood friends. Later he grants the young Trainer access to [[Mt. Silver]], a place which only finest Pokémon Trainers may enter, after the player has earned all the badges in Johto and later Kanto. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, he will give the player one of either {{p|Bulbasaur}}, {{p|Charmander}}, or {{p|Squirtle}} for obtaining all sixteen [[badge]]s. He also gives the player [[HM08]], {{m|Rock Climb}} to assist the them in navigation through [[Mt. Silver]].

Professor Oak has gained many fans and admirers. One of them is [[School Kid|Schoolboy]] Chad, who frequently calls the player to share trivia about Oak.

====Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum====
Professor Oak is also a good friend of [[Professor Rowan]]. He visits [[Sinnoh]] often, has a home in [[Eterna City]], introduces Trainers to [[Pal Park]], and gives them the [[National Pokédex]], as well as the [[Up-Grade]], [[Poké Radar]] and the function {{DL|Pokétch|Trainer Counter}} of the [[Pokétch]]. [[Oak's Letter|A letter]] that he sends to the player in a special event allows the player to find {{p|Shaymin}}. An aide in Rowan's laboratory mentions that Oak is Rowan's junior in terms of seniority. In Platinum, after providing the {{DL|Evolution-inducing held item|Up-Grade}}, Professor Oak will talk about the [[legendary birds]] and say that they have been sighted in [[Sinnoh]]. From this point {{p|Articuno}}, {{p|Zapdos}}, and {{p|Moltres}} will be visible roaming on the map.

In the anime, Oak is most notable for his [[Professor Oak's Laboratory|vast research facility]], where he cares for and studies hundreds of Pokémon, including those owned by, but not currently traveling with, Trainers from [[Pallet Town]]. His often-forgetful attitude and other antics are also notorious. He also has a hobby of composing [[Pokémon senryū|haiku-like poems]] about Pokémon or Pokémon-related themes.

Prof. Oak lives up the road from {{Delia|Ash's mother}} and the two often appear together as they are good friends. He currently lives with [[Tracey Sketchit]], who became his loyal assistant in ''[[EP116|The Rivalry Revival]]''. Tracey and Prof. Oak are very passionate about studying [[Pokémon]] and are both artists. He has confidence in his grandson, [[Gary Oak]], but more often joins {{Ash}}'s mother and friends in cheering on Ash in his competitions.

Oak is sometimes the candidate speculated to be Ash's father, along with [[Giovanni]] and {{an|Silver}}.

In the novelizations written by [[Takeshi Shudō]], Professor Oak comes from a prestigious family. He has two brothers, one is the mayor of Pallet Town and the other is the Post Master, and his grandfather was the first Trainer from Pallet Town to receive widespread recognition. According to Professor Elm, Professor Oak's studies and research mostly focus on how humans and Pokémon interact with each other.

He is an old friend of many other [[Pokémon Professor]]s, including {{prof|Ivy}}, {{prof|Elm}}, {{prof|Birch}} and {{prof|Rowan}}.

[[Ash Ketchum]] befriends Professor Oak as Sam, when he is transported by Celebi into the future. The revelation that Sammy and Oak are one in the same comes in the credits, when [[Tracey Sketchit]] is cleaning out the closet and finds Sam's sketchbook, not knowing anything about Sam. He is impressed by the Professor's skill in art. Also, Professor Oak knew Sam's name even though Ash never told him. Ironically, in that movie, young Sammy saw numerous [[List of Pokémon by Johto Pokédex number|Johto Pokémon]], notably {{p|Celebi}} and {{p|Suicune}}, although in the Kanto arc, there are claimed to be only 151 Pokémon according to the Pokédex he invented. This discrepancy may be due to a {{wp|retcon}}, as it was only claimed that only 151 existed because at the time only 151 had been shown as created by Game Freak. It is likely due to this and other issues like this (such as Pokémon from Hoenn being able to be trained in FireRed and LeafGreen) that numbers of Pokémon are hardly brought up anymore in the anime.

Professor Oak also was one of the two human characters appearing in [[Pokémon Snap]]. He was working on a {{OBP|Pokémon Report|Pokémon Snap}} for the Pokémon species of [[Pokémon Island]], and hired [[Todd Snap|Todd]] to take pictures for the report. He provided Todd with the [[ZERO-ONE]] and its [[Dash Engine]] upgrade, [[Pokémon food]], [[Pester Ball]]s, and a [[Poké Flute]]. When Todd took a picture of each of the [[Pokémon Signs]], Professor Oak drew a connection between them and the {{pkmn|constellations}} to determine that {{p|Mew}} must be on [[Rainbow Cloud]].

Although Professor Oak's first mention was in ''[[PS001|A Glimpse of the Glow]]'' in a conversation between {{Special|Red}} and some Pallet Town children, his debut was in ''[[PS002|Bulbasaur, Come Home!]]'', where Red had wandered into [[Professor Oak's Laboratory|his lab]] and was immediately accused of being a thief. In his haste, Red accidentally released all the Pokémon in the lab, including Bulbasaur, causing the two to track them down and re-capture them. After being saved by Red from a {{p|Machoke}} attack in [[Viridian City]], Oak gave Red the Bulbasaur and a Pokédex. The professor also makes appearances in ''[[PS003|The Secret of Kangaskhan]]'' and ''[[PS006|Gyarados Splashes In!]]'', talking about [[Team Rocket]]'s experiments. Oak later appears in Volume 3 to battle {{Special|Blue}} under the alias "Doctor O" and reveals Blue's phobia of Flying-type Pokémon and her theft of Squirtle. However, he shows compassion by giving her the last Pokédex and forfeiting his position in the [[Pokémon League]].

In the GSC Saga, Oak is now known as the leading authority on Pokémon in both [[Kanto]] and [[Johto]] and has developed the three new Pokédexes. The first was stolen by {{Special|Silver}}, the second and third he gave to {{Special|Gold}} and {{Special|Crystal}}. During the battle with the [[Mask of Ice]], he gave out the titles to the six Pokédex holders and {{Special|Yellow}}. At the end, he employed Crystal as his assistant and thanks to her, the Pokédex had been filled and he owned all non-legendary Pokémon for his research.

In the FRLG Saga, Oak was captured by the [[The Three Beasts]] to lure Red, {{Special|Green}} and Blue to the Sevii Islands; but not before he recalled their three Pokédexes. After he was freed at {{ga|Trainer Tower}}, Oak upgraded the Pokédexes to add the National Pokédex capability.

One of Professor Oak's projects was a full analysis of a report holding all information on the last awakening of {{p|Jirachi}}. From this, he worked out that it would appear where the Battle Frontier was being built during its opening week. He immediately contacted [[Scott]] and, while he would not move the opening, Professor Oak managed to convince Scott to allow a Pokédex holder to guard Jirachi. This was {{Special|Emerald}}. However, someone stole the disc with all the data from Professor Oak's lab.

A Kadabra is characterized by its human-like body structure and its somewhat fox-like appearance. It has two large ears of the top of either side of its head, a red star-shaped symbol of its forehead (derived from Zener cards), and two somewhat sinister looking eyes in the middles of its face. Its eyes lead down to its nose and mouth and its relatively large mustache that grows out on the narrower section of its face. On both of its arms, there are brown colored cauldron shape sections that are located on the shoulder region of its body. Its arms are fairly thin and consist of Kadabra's regular yellow-hued skin. Its hands each have three fingers, of which all each have a large white claw attached. Its torso consists of a brown colored section of body similar to a fauld and an insect like abdomen below it, which has three red wavy lines (also derived from the Zener cards). Attached to this abdomen is a huge, thick tail, which is mostly yellow with a band of brown circling it. Its legs are very thin and also yellow colored. Its feet each have three toes, two in the front on each side, and one in the back near the ankle. Each of these toes has a large white claw attached to it. Kadabra wields one spoon which is used to amplify its [[Special Attack|telekinetic powers]].

Kadabra emits alpha waves when using its psychic powers that induce headaches to those near it. These waves strangely cause clocks to run backwards and machines to malfunction.
The amplitude of the waves are doubled when Kadabra is holding its spoon and increased even further when Kadabra closes its eyes.
Kadabra, and its evolution, {{p|Alakazam}}, are the [[Signature move|only known Pokémon]] that learn {{m|Kinesis}}.

Kadabra, like {{p|Abra}}, sleep for around 18 hours a day. However, they are less peaceful and are more devoted to fighting than their pre-evolution. However, if they are outnumbered, they will still use {{m|Teleport}} to escape.

* "Pocus" was Kadabra's original English name.
* Kadabra is one of the few Pokémon that loses weight after it evolves. Others include {{p|Porygon}} to {{p|Porygon2}}, {{p|Gloom}} to {{p|Bellossom}}, and {{p|Gligar}} to {{p|Gliscor}}. Coincedentally Kadabra to [[Alakazam]] is the only evolution that dosn't come from different generations.
* In Kadabra's {{3v2|Red|Green|Blue}} sprites, the red five-pointed star is missing from its forehead.

===Origin===
Kadabra is based on a magician or someone who purports to bend spoons psychically, such as Uri Geller. It also has similarities to {{wp|foxes}}.

====Name origin====
Kadabra's name is part of an incantation used in {{wp|magic (illusion)|stage magic}}, ''{{wp|Abracadabra}}''. Its Japanese name is a reference to the magician {{wp|Uri Geller}}, replacing the ''ri'' character with the visually similar ''n'' character. Uri Geller claimed to have the ability to bend spoons with his mind, which is probably why Kadabra carries a spoon. Geller attempted to make a case against [[Nintendo|Nintendo of America]] for using his likeness in a character and lost.
