I'm beginning to get really confused by all the ship names. Why do we favor one ship title over another? Just because it's more "popular"? Shipping is just a weird part of the site in general, but why do we need to reference some list (incomplete list of shippers)? A lot of it is so arbitrary and almost embarrassing to list on the site as an article title. Could I make a suggestion that maybe we change the naming convention so it simply lists the characters involved in the title? i.e. "Shipping:Ash/Misty". As far as evidence lists go, I do think that the pages are focused a bit too much on them. It makes them all seem like little fan pages, and some of them are beyond a stretch of the imagination. I also think an important thing to note is that Japanese fansites focus far less of "evidence." Their fanart and fanfiction deals with an idealized situation of what it would be like for the characters to be together. Although the coupling would never work in canon--something that American sites seem to be out to "prove" could work--the Japanese seem to ignore all that.

I'm beginning to get really confused by all the ship names. Why do we favor one ship title over another? Just because it's more "popular"? Shipping is just a weird part of the site in general, but why do we need to reference some list (incomplete list of shippers)? A lot of it is so arbitrary and almost embarrassing to list on the site as an article title. Could I make a suggestion that maybe we change the naming convention so it simply lists the characters involved in the title? i.e. "Shipping:Ash/Misty". As far as evidence lists go, I do think that the pages are focused a bit too much on them. It makes them all seem like little fan pages, and some of them are beyond a stretch of the imagination. I also think an important thing to note is that Japanese fansites focus far less of "evidence." Their fanart and fanfiction deals with an idealized situation of what it would be like for the characters to be together. Although the coupling would never work in canon--something that American sites seem to be out to "prove" could work--the Japanese seem to ignore all that.

Can I get an example of a really good shipping article? Something to work toward and emulate for other pages?

Also, someone mentioned ways to get the pages more encyclopedic? Are there any other suggestions?

As far as evidence lists go, I do think that the pages are focused a bit too much on them. It makes them all seem like little fan pages, and some of them are beyond a stretch of the imagination. I also think an important thing to note is that Japanese fansites focus far less of "evidence." Their fanart and fanfiction deals with an idealized situation of what it would be like for the characters to be together. Although the coupling would never work in canon--something that American sites seem to be out to "prove" could work--the Japanese seem to ignore all that.

What would the articles be if you took out the evidence? I think that's a big question we need to ask ourselves. Not to say that should happen, but there should be a bigger reason for them, I think. --[[User:Greengiant|Greengiant]] 21:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
