I thought I read somewhere that one way of transliterating the name would be “Zoroaaku”... “aku” is “evil”, right?( Note, I am NOT suggestinga pagemoeoranything dumb like that, I can clearly see that the official Romaji is Zoroark, I am just talking about name-origin stuff.) --LaprasBoi 11:18, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
: Well on Zorua, they've noted that Zorro is Spanish for fox, which is likely the name origin. With Zoroark, it might be combined with either "Dark" or "Aku", and Zorua might be an altered form of that, similar to Lucario and Riolu. I'm pretty sure I read that transliteration too; correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference in Zorua and Zoroark's names is "aku". ==Plot==
spoiler
Thousands of years in the past, the legendary Alpha Pokémon Arceus came to Earth to retrieve a "Jewel of Life" that it had loaned to a man named Damos. Damos however betrayed Arceus and attacked it with a large army of Pokémon. After presumably killing Damos in its counterattack, Arceus went to sleep, vowing to judge all humans when it next returns based on Damos's actions.

Ash and his friends reach a beautiful land called Michina Town. As they are playing in the river three watermelons float over to them. A boy named Kanta and a girl named Kako says that Ash and his friends can have them if they can beat them in a Tag battle. After Ash and Dawn win the Tag battle Kanta and Kako reccomend that they go the towns famous ruins, a spatial distortion opens near them and nearly sweeps up Ash's Pikachu and Dawn's Piplup; they are however saved when a girl named Sheena calls Dialga to stop the distortion from spreading. Sheena (who has the ability to communicate with a Pokémon's heart) is a guardian of the city's ruins, and together with her partner Kevin, explains that the battle between Dialga and Palkia was caused by the massive energy surrounding the slowly awakening Arceus. Sheena further explains that long ago, her ancestor Damos betrayed Arceus and stole its Jewel of Life, sending it into a rage that it continued to harbor throughout time. The time that Arceus returns is drawing near, however, and Sheena plans to return the Jewel to Arceus in order to rectify her ancestor's mistake.

Later, another spatial distortion caused by Arceus nearly sweeps Dialga. Palkia then destroys the distortion.Sheena mediates and ends the conflict between them once and for all. However, the presence of both Dialga and Palkia soon attracts Giratina, who is still enraged at them for damaging its world. The battle between the three gods erupts anew, and Sheena is helpless to stop it as her ability cannot reach a Pokémon whose heart is filled with rage. Giratina only calms when it recalls Ash's help in defeating Zero. Once Sheena finally ends the conflict, the three return to their own worlds.

Soon thereafter, Arceus fully awakens and returns to pass down its Judgment. As Arceus destroys Michīna, Sheena attempts to present it with the Jewel of Life. It briefly calms, then becomes even more enraged when it realizes the Jewel Sheena possesses is a fake. Michīna continues to crumble beneath Arceus's might until Dialga, Palkia and Giratina return to stop it. Palkia is able to subdue Arceus long enough to allow Dialga to send everyone but Kevin back in time to alter the past.

When the group arrives, they see Damos enter the temple with the Jewel of Life on a staff. Following him, they all witness as he betrays Arceus as already known, however, it becomes apparent that another man who is dressed in a red toga and controls a Heatran and Bronzong wearing strange armor is also involved. Furthermore, Damos appears to be under hypnosis of some sort. When Arceus violently counterattacks, Ash and his friends nearly fall to their deaths along with Damos and the other man, but Sheena quickly prays to Dialga again and manages to get it to send them back a bit further in time.

Meanwhile, in the present day, Arceus is gaining the upper hand in its battle against the dragon trio and defeats Dialga.

Ash, Brock, Dawn and Sheena arrive in the afternoon several hours prior to Damos's betrayal. Sheena becomes alarmed when she realizes that Dialga can no longer send them through time, and things get worse when a group of armed soldiers surround them. The man in the toga appears with his Bronzong and has it use Hypnosis on everyone but Sheena. The girl attempts to warn him of what is going to happen, garnering the man's interest, so he orders his guards to take the others away while he interrogates Sheena.

Ash, Brock and Dawn are thrown in a jail cell guarded by an old man and soon realize they are sharing the space with Damos, who appears jovial and in control of himself, unlike what had previously been seen. The group's initial reaction to him is overwhelmingly negative, to which he takes offense. Damos explains that in the past, the world was threatened with destruction through the impact of a gigantic meteor, but Arceus tackled it and destroyed it. In the process Arceus lost the sixteen Plates that gave it life and began to die, so he helped find them and heal it. In return Arceus detached the Plates of grass, ground, water, electric, and dragon to form the Jewel of Life so Damos could make Michīna, previously a desolate wasteland, rich and fertile. It was to be returned at the date of the next solar eclipse, and Damos claims he has no intention of not returning the Jewel.

After hearing that they were imprisoned by a man with a Bronzong, Damos identifies him as Marcus. Thinking back, Brock realizes that Marcus and Bronzong were present at the scene of Damos's betrayal and theorizes that Marcus was the real mastermind and that he was controlling Damos through Bronzong's Hypnosis.

Marcus, meanwhile, is hosting Sheena at a dinner. She explains everything to him, that Damos is going to betray Arceus and cause the world to be placed in danger, so Marcus agrees to assist her in stopping him. He then walks over to an area obscured by his Heatran and secretly removes the Jewel of Life from its staff before presenting Sheena with the empty staff. Sheena, unknowing of Marcus's true nature, goes off willingly with him to the temple.

Just in the nick of time, a Spiky-eared Pichu that Damos had previously befriended using the same ability as Sheena appears and gives him the jail cell's keys so they can escape.

At the temple, the eclipse begins and Arceus enters. Sheena tells it that Damos is not coming and attempts to give the Jewel to it, only for Marcus to initiate the attack in much the same fashion he forced Damos to. Ash's group arrives and Sheena comes to peace with her ancestor, while Ash confronts the true villain. Using his Monferno, Ash attempts to battle with Marcus, but Heatran is far too strong and overpowers them. Instead, he attempts to defeat Marcus with hand-to-hand combat. This also fails, but Marcus drops the Jewel. It is nearly destroyed but Ash manages to recover it.

Arceus, meanwhile, is losing strength under the force of Marcus's attack, and begins to die when molten silver is poured onto it. Damos and Sheena combine their abilities and are able to touch the hearts of Damos' Pokémon, which are being controlled by the armor they wear. Ash and Dawn have Pikachu and Piplup destroy the armor on Heatran and Bronzong with Iron Tail and Peck. This frees them, and they turn on Marcus while the other Pokémon stop their attack. Marcus smugly declares that even if he fails, Arceus will still die, and the future that Ash and his friends came from will cease to exist, meaning they will no longer exist as well. True to his word, Pikachu soon vanishes, and Ash begins to vanish as well as he attempts to give the Jewel of Life to the nearly-dead Arceus. Damos manages to reach the last spark of life in Arceus' heart, giving it enough strength to reabsorb the Jewel and completely recover. With Marcus's plan thwarted Pikachu is restored to life, then returns Ash's group to their proper time.

Arriving back in the present day, it appears that things have become peaceful due to the changes in the past. However, this is not the case - Arceus has completely defeated Dialga, Palkia and Giratina, and is preparing its final Judgment attack to destroy all of Michīna. Ash cries out to it, begging it to remember that everything was fixed in the past, and just before the attack's destruction begins, Arceus remembers that this is true and halts its rampage. With everything finally back to normal, Arceus heals the three dragons and restores Michīna to its beautiful state, then the four gods bid a final farewell to Ash and his friends and depart for their respective worlds.

In the credits, it is revealed that Marcus went on to become an employee of Damos as a steward of the temple. In Alamos Town, Tonio and Alice fly in a hot air balloon while Baron Alberto attempts to follow them. Darkrai is then seen looking over the town. In a later scene, an imprisoned Zero is seen being visited by Newton Graceland and receiving a copy of Infi that survived the Megarig's wreck, much to his delight. Shaymin is also seen, looking out to a sunrise with a smile.
Trivia
* The movie director and producers went to Greece in August 2008 to use the country as a basis for the movie's fictitious setting. Among the locations they visited were there Acropolis_of_Athens, Mycenae, Delphi and Metéora.
* Though it has happened to Ash's friends before, this is the first time Ash himself travels through time.
* The events of this movie happen between the episodes DP135 and DP136.
* Interestingly, Solar eclipse of July 22, 2009 was visible from Japan just days after the premiere of this movie, which uses solar eclipse as a herald of Arceus's approach.
* This is the first movie that shows a legendary Pokémon that appeared in two previous Pokémon movies, in this case Dialga from The Rise of Darkrai and Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
** This is also the second movie that shows legendary Pokémon that appeared in a previous movie: Palkia from The Rise of Darkrai and Giratina from Giratina and the Sky Warrior, as well as Dialga, who was in both.
* As opposed to previous movies, this time it is Pikachu who dies and Ash who helps save him. In Mewtwo Strikes Back, Ash died and Pikachu's tears helped bring him back to life, and in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, Ash was swallowed up by the Tree of Beginning and Pikachu helped Mew bring him back again.
* This is the first movie to debut in the US in the same year as it debuted in Japan, with the shortest time between the Japanese premiere and English premiere yet. This makes 2009 the first year when two Pokémon movies debuted in the US.
* Much as was standard in the original series movies, this movie's English opening is the same as the corresponding season, which has not occurred since Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

Errors
* Arceus had transformed into its Dragon form and Grass form during the fight in the movie, yet it should not have been able to transform into those two forms due to the fact that it no longer possesses their respective plates at that particular point in the movie.
----
The history of the Pokémon media franchise spans over a decade from when work began officially on the first game to now, and has roots even older. It started simply enough as a hobby of Satoshi Tajiri, who as a child had a fondness for catching insects and tadpoles near his home in suburban Tokyo. Over time, Tajiri decided to put his idea of catching creatures into practice because it would give children the same thrill as he had.

Early days
With the help of Ken Sugimori and other friends, Tajiri formed Game Freak and much later the design studio known as Creatures. When Tajiri discovered the Game Boy and the Game Boy Link Cable, it gave him the image of insects traveling along the wire, which led to concept for a new game called Capsule Monsters. After several failed attempts at pitching this idea to Nintendo, Tajiri's new friend Shigeru Miyamoto pitched it to the company, and Nintendo began to fund the project, spending six years developing the games that would become a worldwide sensation. The original artwork for the games was drawn by Tajiri's friend, the artist Ken Sugimori. Before the first Pokémon games were released in Japan in 1996, sprites of Pikachu, Mew, Meowth, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle appeared in Game Freak's Game Boy Camera in 1995. Around this time, Nintendo decided to change the name "Capsule Monsters" to "Pocket Monsters."

Generation I
Taking over Japan
The first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Green Versions, came to the Nintendo Game Boy system in Japan on February 27th, 1996, which was the fulfillment of Satoshi Tajiri's dream and allowed people of all ages to catch, train and trade Generation I Pokémon and become a Pokémon Master. Due to high sales, Pokémon Red and Green were swiftly followed up with Pokémon Blue, which had improved graphics and sounds.

After the games, a Pokémon Trading Card Game was developed by Media Factory with its own set of rules. The Base Set of cards was released on October 20th, 1996, containing 102 cards, and became very popular.

The popularity of the franchise also led to an anime series based on the games, premiering in Japan on April 1st, 1997. The main character was a young Pokémon Trainer named Satoshi (after Satoshi Tajiri, later dubbed in English to Ash Ketchum), based on Red. Another character introduced in the first episode was Satoshi's rival, Shigeru (after Shigeru Miyamoto, later dubbed in English to Gary Oak), based on Blue.

The franchise also won many manga interpretations, the first being Pocket Monsters. The more famous manga in the western world, however, is Pokémon Adventures, the first volume of which was first published in Japan on August 8th, 1997.

Shogakukan published the first volume of Pokémon Wonderland, a magazine with the latest information on the franchise, on August 23rd, 1997.

On April 25th, 1998, the first Pokémon Center store was opened in Tokyo, specializing in Pokémon merchandise. Along the way, The Pokémon Company began its operations. Many such stores were opened in later years, and today there are six different stores across Japan, as well as one in New York.

Conquering the world
North America received , as well as the anime, in September 1998 (the anime on the 7th and the games on the 30th), and soon everywhere else began to play the games on the Game Boy under the slogan Gotta Catch 'em All!. The Trading Card Game was also introduced to North America on January 9th, 1999 by Wizards of the Coast.

Meanwhile in Japan in 1998, a new spin-off game, Pokémon Stadium, was released for Nintendo 64. This game featured only 42 Pokémon of the full 151. This game proved to be commercially and critically unsuccessful..

The anime, on the other hand, pushed the franchise to new heights. On July 18th, 1998, Pokémon the First Movie debuted in Japanese theaters, featuring the rare Mew and Mewtwo. In the United States, where it was released on November 10th, 1999, the movie even briefly held the record for highest-grossing opening for an animated film.

Plans soon started for a game based on the popular anime and Yellow was released September 12th, 1998 in Japan, October 25th, 1999 in North America and Europe. Pokémon Yellow allowed Trainers to take on the role of Ash and travel through Kanto with anime-style graphics for each Pokémon and a Pikachu by their side, following the anime's course of events.

Expanding to spin-offs
On December 18th, 1998 a Game Boy game based on the TCG was released, later arriving in North America on April 10th, 2000. It was followed, only in Japan, a year later by a sequel titled Card GB 2.

The anime, as well as Yellow, marked Pikachu as one of (if not the) most popular and recognized creatures in Pokémon history. This led to a small spin-off game called Hey You, Pikachu!, which was released in Japan on December 12th, 1998, and in North America on November 6th, 2000. This was a virtual-pet game, utilizing the Nintendo 64's Voice Recognition Unit to let one interact verbally with Pikachu.

When the anime finished following the games story with Ash's defeat in the Pokémon League in January 1999, it started a filler season in a new region called the Orange Archipelago, introducing the new main character of Tracey Sketchit. During this season's time, a second movie, Pokémon the Movie 2000, was produced. It was first in Japanese theaters on July 17th, 1999, and in North American theaters on July 21st, 2000.

A non-traditional spin-off game for Nintendo 64, Snap, was released in Japan on March 21st, 1999, inviting the player (in the role of Todd Snap, a character previously introduced in the anime) to a Pokémon photographing mission in a place called Pokémon Island. This game made its way to North America on July 27th, 1999.

On April 14th, 1999, a spin-off pinball game for the Game Boy Color was released, called Pinball. This game took all the mechanics of regular pinball, with some Pokémon aspects added in. Its North American release was on June 28th, 1999.

A sequel to the Pokémon Stadium was also eventually released in Japan on April 30th, 1999, and became a success. This game reached North America on February 29th, 2000, and became known there as the original Pokémon Stadium. The twist in the Stadium series from the main series was that it featured the Pokémon in 3D.

In September 2000, the anime-based puzzle game Puzzle League was released for Nintendo 64. This game was the only Pokémon game to be made specifically for western audiences and not be released in Japan.

However, this was not the only American-made original Pokémon material. From 2000 to 2002, an anime-based musical called Pokémon Live! was shown on stages around the world. The most memorable plot point in the musical was the revelation that Ash's mother, Delia, used to be a friend of Giovanni when they were younger. The musical isn't considered canon, but it sparked endless theories among fans regarding the identity of Ash's father.

Generation II
Winds of new beginnings
Almost since the very beginning of the series, it had been apparent that the first 151 Pokémon would not be the last. Ho-Oh was seen as early as the first episode of the anime, Misty was owned by a main character, and others like Marill, Snubbull and Donphan were seen in the first movie. Later, when the second generation of Pokémon was drawing nearer, others like Lugia, Slowking and Elekid made their way to the second movie.

On November 21st, 1999, Nintendo of Japan released for the then-new Game Boy Color. This time, Trainers were invited to the land of Johto, where Generation II Pokémon were waiting to be captured.

The new games enhanced the Pokémon gaming experience by adding many new features, the most famous likely being the ability for Pokémon to have different genders, in turn allowing them to breeding. A time system was also introduced, with a real-time clock allowing different events to happen during the day, at night, and in the morning, as well as on certain days of the week. Another important addition was the happiness system. Shiny Pokémon also first appeared, most notably a Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage. Trainers could also return to Kanto and face the Gym Leaders that were present in the original games. Pokémon Gold and Silver made its way to North America on October 11th, 2000.

The anime followed, of course, and Ash and his friends also arrived at Johto in an episode that aired in Japan on October 14th, 1999 and in the US on October 14th, 2000. Pokémon 3: The Movie was then released to theaters on July 8th, 2000 in Japan and on April 6th, 2001 in North America, featuring the legendary Entei.

A new trading card set called Neo Genesis featured the first Generation II Pokémon to the Trading Card Game. It was released in Japan on December 10, 1999 and in USA on December 16, 2000.

A sequel to Puzzle League was released on September 21st, 2000 for Game Boy Color, this time in Japan, titled Puzzle Challenge. It made its way to North America on December 4th, 2000.

On December 14th, 2000, a sequel to the Stadium series was released in Japan called Stadium 2, bringing the Generation II Pokémon into full 3D for the first time. This game reached North America on March 25th, 2001.

Like Pokémon Yellow, a third version was made called Crystal, which was released in Japan on December 14th, 2000 and in North America on July 21st, 2001. Pokémon Crystal had several notable changes from Gold and Silver. Suicune was the version mascot and the focus of the plot. Crystal was also the first portable Pokémon game to feature animations for every Pokémon. Trainers in Japan received the added bonus of being able to trade, battle, and even obtain the legendary Pokémon Celebi wirelessly by using a cell phone to connect to the Pokémon Mobile System. Trainers were also, for the first time, allowed to choose their character's gender.

Anime and manga in GS
On December 30th, 2000, the first feature-length special of the Pokémon anime was released in Japan as a sequel to Mewtwo Strikes Back, titled Mewtwo Returns. It was later released on DVD in the United States on December 5th, 2001.

Another movie, Celebi: Voice of the Forest, debuted in theaters in Japan on July 7th, 2001, and in North America on October 25th, 2002. It featured two legendary Pokémon prominent in Crystal: Celebi and Suicune.

The Pokémon Adventures manga finally caught up to the second generation on August 8th, 2001, when Volume 8 was published in Japan, starting a new chapter.

Raikou, the only member of the legendary beasts yet to be featured in an anime movie, received its own made-for-TV special, The Legend of Thunder!, on December 30th, 2001. This special didn't feature Ash and his friends, but rather new characters based on the player characters of the second generation.

On July 13th, 2002, the fifth and last movie of the original series, Pokémon Heroes, was released in Japanese theaters. Distributed on limited release by Miramax, it opened in select American theaters on May 16th, 2003.

Generation III
Advancing to a new age
In July 2001 an episode of the anime aired in Japan featuring a Pokémon never previously seen - Kecleon. Soon, Kecleon and others like Wynaut, Azurill, Duskull and Volbeat showed up in theaters in 2 Pikachu shorts while Wailmer, Latias and Latios were featured in the fifth Pokémon movie. During the Silver Conference Ash battled Harrison, a Trainer from Littleroot Town in Hoenn. Professor Birch, along Poochyena Lotad Sharpedo, made a cameo in Johto Photo Finish. Through this, it became known that the next generation of Pokémon was just around the corner.

Indeed, a major overhaul of the game series occurred when Pokémon arrived on the Game Boy Advance on November 21st, 2002 when were released in Japan. Trainers found themselves in the southern land called Hoenn where Generation III Pokémon were waiting to be discovered. The games reached North America on March 18th 2003 and had many new features, the most prominent being Pokémon Contests, double battles, Pokémon abilities and natures for each Pokémon, along with the reform of effort values and individual values. Also introduced in these versions were more detailed weather conditions and two new villainous teams, Team Magma and Team Aqua. Due to the extensive changes to the system, however, this generation was not compatible with earlier generations.

The anime began a new series, Advanced Generation, which started in Japan on the same day as the release of the games and reached North America almost a year later. A great deal was changed in this series, including the introduction of a new main character, May, based on her game counterpart. Two new movies were produced during the time in Hoenn: Jirachi: Wish Maker (which was released on July 19th, 2003 in Japan and on June 1st, 2004 on video and DVD in North America) and Destiny Deoxys (which was released on July 17th, 2004 in Japan and on January 22nd, 2005 on North American television).

Around the same time of the Advanced Generation, a show called Weekly Pokémon Broadcasting Station began to air weekly in Japan, focusing not on Ash, but on other characters of the anime, such as Misty, Brock, Tracey, Gary, Ritchie, Casey and Sakura. The English dubbed version, Pokémon Chronicles, first aired in the United Kingdom in May 2005, finally dubbing The Legend of Thunder! special to English along the way, three and a half years after its original Japanese airing.

Nintendo transferred the Trading Card Game license from Wizards of the Coast to itself in 2003, and released EX Ruby & Sapphire on January 31st, introducing new game mechanics and a new card design. This set was released in North America on June 18th, 2003.

More spin-offs
To solve the problem of limited Pokémon storage in the continuously growing Pokémon world, Box Ruby & Sapphire was released May 30th 2003 in Japan, July 11th 2004 in North America, allowing Trainers to store up to 1,500 Pokémon from their Generation III games.

A small spin-off game named Channel for GameCube was released in Japan on July 13th, 2003. It focused on a TV-broadcasting network airing a variety of Pokémon programs, with the player playing the role of the test audience. The game also included a unique anime episode, Pichu Bros. in Party Panic. Pokémon Channel reached North America on December 1st, 2003.

On July 28th, 2003, Volume 15 of the Pokémon Adventures manga was first published, starting another chapter of the manga, this one following the third generation's story.

A sequel to Pinball met the third generation in Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire for Game Boy Advance on August 1st, 2003 in Japan and on August 23rd, 2003 in North America.

The 3D version of Generation III came in the form of Colosseum on November 21st, 2003 in Japan and March 22nd, 2004 in North America on the GameCube. Unlike the Pokémon Stadium series, this game also featured an RPG taking place in the desolate region of Orre. The game's main addition to the growing Pokémon universe was Shadow Pokémon.

Back to Kanto and onward to the Battle Frontier
On January 29th, 2004, two new games were released in Japan: . They arrived in North America on September 9th, 2004, and were remakes of Red and Blue which brought the games up to Generation III standards, as well as adding wireless connectivity (through a wireless adapter for the Game Boy Advance) and a new region -- the Sevii Islands. These games also gave the Event Pokémon Deoxys two additional forms, which could only be obtained by moving Deoxys to a FireRed or LeafGreen cartridge.

Not yet finished with the Hoenn story, Game Freak developed a third version to complement Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald. This game was released in Japan on September 16th, 2004, and in North America on May 1st, 2005. Emerald featured the same wireless connectivity as FireRed and LeafGreen, as well as an updated version of Hoenn with many new features, including the Hoenn Battle Frontier, the ability to re-battle Gym Leaders, an altered plot, and animations for all Pokémon, as in Crystal Version.

The anime caught up with both the Generation I remakes and Emerald by having the group travel back to Kanto and face the Kanto Battle Frontier there. During this season's time two more movies were produced: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew (premiering in Japan on July 16th, 2005) and Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea (debuting in Japanese cinemas on July 15th, 2006).

On August 28, 2006, volume 22 of the Pokémon Adventures was published, starting the FireRed & LeafGreen, and on June 23, 2007, volume 26 of the Pokémon Adventures was published, starting the Emerald.

Original new concepts
A spin-off racing game called Dash was released in Japan on December 2nd, 2004 and in North America on March 14th, 2005. It was the first of many Pokémon games made for the Nintendo DS.

On August 4th, 2005, Trainers were invited back to Orre in XD: Gale of Darkness, a sequel to Colosseum taking place about five years later. This game found its way to North America on October 3rd, 2005.

A spin-off puzzle game, Trozei!, was released on October 20th, 2005 in Japan and on March 6th, 2006 in North America. The game had a story mode, which followed Lucy Fleetfoot as she attempted to take down the Phobos Battalion.

Starting with the TCG expansion EX Delta Species, which was released on October 28th, 2005 in Japan and 3 days later in the United States, a new special kind of Pokémon called δ Delta Species was introduced. δ Delta Species Pokémon were found only in a few TCG expansions, and were given a backstory involving a new region called Holon.

A new style of play saw light on November 17th, 2005, with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team -- a pair of games, one for Game Boy Advance and one for Nintendo DS -- in which the player is turned into a Pokémon. The games, released in North America on September 18th, 2006, received adaptations in the anime episode Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Team Go-Getters out of the Gate! and the manga series Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team.

Another new twist on Pokémon came in the spin-off Nintendo DS game Pokémon Ranger on March 23rd, 2006. This time, players didn't play as regular Pokémon Trainers, but as Pokémon Rangers traveling the land of Fiore with a device called the Capture Styler instead of Poké Balls. It was released in North America on October 30th, 2006. The game was also promoted in the anime through the appearance of Pokémon Rangers in the main series, a special episode and the ninth movie.

Ten years of Pokémon
2006 was marked officially as Pokémon's tenth anniversary, and was celebrated as such in many ways, such as Journey Across America. Among other things, an English CD was released titled Pokémon X - 10 Years of Pokémon.

On April 29th, 2006, a special episode of the anime called The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon was broadcast in the United States. This was the first episode to use The Pokémon Company International's new voice actors (Pokémon USA at the time), causing big controversy among the Pokémon fan community. The special was eventually broadcast in Japan as streaming video from the TV Tokyo Anitele web site from October 13th to October 31st, 2006.

In fall 2006, another section of the Pokémon franchise was created in the form of the Pokémon Trading Figure Game in Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia, made by Kaiyodo. The figures reached North America and Japan in 2007.

Generation IV
Diamond and Pearl
Just like with Kecleon in Generation III, the public learned of Generation IV through a new Pokémon -- Munchlax -- in May 2004. Munchlax was soon featured in Dash, as well as the seventh movie and later the main anime. Others such as Lucario, Bonsly, Mime Jr. and Weavile then made their way to the eighth movie, and Mantyke, Buizel and Chatot appeared in the ninth, which featured Manaphy -- a new legendary Pokémon that even became obtainable in Pokémon Ranger.

were eventually released for Nintendo DS in Japan on September 28th, 2006, and in North America on April 22nd, 2007. Along with Generation IV Pokémon in the new huge land of Sinnoh, these games offered a pseudo-3D rendering of the overworld, the return of the time system, visible gender differences between Pokémon, a split between physical and special moves, and Pokémon Super Contests.

The anime Diamond & Pearl series started in Japan and in the US in synchronization with the release of the games. Like the previous series, it introduced a new female character, Dawn, based on her game counterpart.

The three movies of this series form a continuous trilogy. The first part of the trilogy, The Rise of Darkrai, premiered on July 14th, 2007 in Japanese theaters, and aired on February 24th, 2008 on North American televisions. The second part, Giratina and the Sky Warrior premiered in Japan on July 19th, 2008, and aired on February 13th, 2009 on North American televisions. The third and final movie of the trilogy, Arceus and the Jewel of Life, premiered on July 18th, 2009 in Japan, and will air On CartoonNetwork In America on November 20th.
A new TCG set was released in Japan on November 30, 2006 and in the USA on May 23, 2007, featuring the new Pokémon from Sinnoh.

New sequels
On December 14th, 2006, two weeks after the launch of Nintendo's Wii console, Generation IV Pokémon turned 3D in the form of Battle Revolution. It was released in the United States on June 25th, 2007.

The paired sequels for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon for Nintendo DS were released in Japan on September 13th, 2007 and in North America on April 20th, 2008. Just like before, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 was also produced. It was followed by a third version, Explorers of Sky, which was released in Japan on April 18th, 2009. Just like the third versions of the main series, Explorers of Sky had additional content. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky was produced as well.

Pokémon Rangers were also brought into the fourth generation in a sequel called Ranger: Shadows of Almia, set in the new land of Almia. It was released in Japan on March 20th, 2008 and in North America on November 10th, 2008. An anime special was also produced, and aired on the same day as the Japanese release.

Like with Pokémon Box in Generation III, a storage game titled My Pokémon Ranch was released on March 25th, 2008 in Japan and on June 9th, 2008 in North America, featuring the character of Hayley.

The third version of Generation IV, Platinum, was released on September 13th, 2008 in Japan and on March 22nd, 2009 in North America, bringing new Pokémon forms into the ring for Giratina, Shaymin, and Rotom, as well as updates similar to those found in Pokémon Emerald.

Johto's Heart and Soul
Ever since the Generation III remakes for the incompatible Generation I FireRed and LeafGreen Versions, Pokémon fans have widely speculated that remakes of the Generation II Pokémon games, , will be made for Nintendo DS. Indeed, the paired remakes, titled , were eventually released in Japan on September 12, 2009. The games were referred to in the anime in an episode that featured Kotone and the three starter Pokémon of Johto, Dawn even joined the regular cast. HeartGold & SoulSilver Collection for the TCG was also released to celebrate the new games.

The future of Pokémon
The history of the Pokémon media franchise already spans long over a decade, and is rich with four generations, many main series games, spin-off games, a Trading Card Game, three series of anime complete with 12 movies and an as of now unreleased 13th, many series of manga, a musical, and plenty of music, but it is far from over.

The thirteenth movie has been announced, but not much is known about it. The film is to be released in July of 2010.

A new game for the Wii: PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Great Adventure is scheduled for release December 5, 2009.

It is widely believed that a fifth generation of Pokémon is inevitable, and that the Pokémon world will continue to grow with it. While no official announcement has been made by the game developers, anime director Masamitsu Hidaka said in an interview that there will definitely be a fifth generation of Pokémon. The new generation will probably extend the Pokémon universe in similar fashion as the older generations did, with new Pokémon, a new region, new characters and features. However, no details have been confirmed and there is only a vague picture of the future of Pokémon. Only time shall tell.

It is here that trainers will first find Jasmine, the Olivine Gym Leader, from a hint by Silver. Amphy is an Ampharos who serves as a beacon for the lighthouse. Recently, Amphy has become ill, and Jasmine, nurturing Amphy to health, will not leave for any reason.

She asks the player if he or she will Surf to nearby Cianwood City to get a special medicine, then bring it back to her.

While Jasmine has no junior trainers in her gym, the lighthouse poses a challenge which provides more than enough of a counterbalance to it, as there are many trainers on each of its floors. The Glitter Lighthouse is also known as the Olivine Lighthouse.

The Ruins of Alph (Japanese: アルフのいせき Ruins of Alph) are located in Johto, with entrances to the south and west of Violet City. The ruins are filled with Unown once slide puzzles have been activated. Their name may come from the first four letters of "alphabet", which the Unown inside can represent.

If a Trainer listens to the PokéGear radio while near or inside the ruins, they will hear strange noises generated by it on channel 13.5.

There are several scientists in the area listening and studying the ruins to discover more about them. They say it is more than it seems and that the puzzles in the caves must have something to do with the mystery of the past of the Ruins of Alph. In the area there are several small caves with puzzles; solving the puzzles cause Unown to appear in the main ruins. Crystal later explains that these puzzles are signals that summon the Unown.

In Crystal, , patterns appear on the walls of the puzzle chambers. When the patterns' directions are followed, doorways to hidden rooms appear, and the player can learn some of the history of the Unown. In the Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal, a scientist theorizes that the sudden appearance of these patterns is related to the newly-built Pokémon Communication Center and the radio waves emanating from it.

There is a secret entrance to a small part of the Ruins of Alph in Union Cave near Violet City, which leads to a patch of grass full of Natu and Smeargle. Also,Only in HeartGold and SoulSilver,If the Player Has Arceus in It`s Party,The Shinto Ruins will be available and The Player can choose A Lv.1 Dialga,Palkia or Giratina, with their respective orbs.
Hidden rooms
In Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, it is possible to access 4 hidden rooms from the puzzle chambers. The Chambers will have Items upon Requirements the Player has done.
First Chamber
In the northernmost chamber, the far wall reads escape upon inspection.<br>
Using an Escape Rope there opens a secret room upon re-entering. Inside this room are four items:
* Berry (Oran Berry in Generation IV)
* PSNCureBerry (Pecha Berry in Generation IV)
* Herbal medicine
* Herbal medicine
Falling through to the floor below reveals the following message spelled out on the ground in Unown:<br>
Our words shall remain here for the ages

Second Chamber
In the chamber to the south across a small lake and to the right, the far wall reads flash.<br>
Getting a Pokémon to use the field move Flash will open the secret room containing the items:
*Herbal medicine
*Herbal medicine
*Gold Berry (Sitrus Berry in Generation IV)
*Moon Stone
The floor below reveals the message<br>
Thus we shall erect a Pokémon statue outside

Third Chamber
The third chamber is accessed through Union Cave but requires a boulder to be moved.

Also,Only in HeartGold and SoulSilver,If the Player Has Arceus in It`s Party,The Shinto Ruinswill be available and The Player can choose A Lv.1 Dialga,Palkia or Giratina, with their respective orbs.
* Herbal medicine
* Herbal medicine

The far wall reads water this time.<br>
The secret chamber will open if the player has a Water Stone in their inventory. The chamber holds:
They possess great insight and refuse the outside world

Fourth Chamber
The final chamber is also accessed through Union Cave. It is the cave just left of the third chamber. The far wall reads Ho Oh.<br>
If Ho-Oh is the first Pokémon in the player's party (in Generation IV having Ho-Oh anywhere in the player's party is good enough), the secret chamber opens containing the following items:

First Chamber
In the northernmost chamber, the far wall reads escape upon inspection.<br>
Using an Escape Rope there opens a secret room upon re-entering. Inside this room are four items:
* Berry (Oran Berry in Generation IV)
Falling through to the floor below reveals the following message spelled out on the ground in Unown:<br>

The far wall reads water this time.<br>
The secret chamber will open if the player has a Water Stone in their inventory. The chamber holds:
*Stardust
*Star Piece
*Mystery Berry
*Type-enhancing item
The floor below reads<br>
They possess great insight and refuse the outside world

Fourth Chamber
The final chamber is also accessed through Union Cave. It is the cave just left of the third chamber. The far wall reads Ho Oh.<br>
If Ho-Oh is the first Pokémon in the player's party (in Generation IV having Ho-Oh anywhere in the player's party is good enough), the secret chamber opens containing the following items:
*Herbal medicine
*Type-enhancing item
*Gold Berry
*Mystery Berry
The floor below reads<br>
We humans must learn to walk in harmony with them. We depart for their sakes
