Trivia
- Yanmega and its pre-evolution, Yanma, are the only Pokémon whose names begin with the letter Y.
- Yanmega has the highest base Special Attack stat, as well as the highest base stat total, of any Bug-type Pokémon.
- Yanmega is the largest Bug-type Pokémon.
- Yanmega is the last Bug-type Pokémon in National Pokédex order as of Generation IV.
- In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Yanmega is said to spit gooey silk. However, it's unable to learn String Shot naturally.
- Its Pokédex entry suggests that it uses physical moves, however, its Special Attack stat is higher than its Attack stat.
Origin
It is, as its name suggests, based on the Meganeura monyi species of dragonflies.
Name origin
Yanmega's name is a combination of 蜻蜓 yanma, large dragonfly in Japanese, and Meganeura, a species of gigantic prehistoric dragonfly. Its Japanese name means the same thing, albeit in reverse. However, it could just simply be a combination of mega, meaning large, and yanma.
