This looks lots of better than the old one, being roundier and having show/hide option.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 20:57, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I love it!!! One nitpick would be to darken the red and blue for the ♂/♀ backrounds. You do amazing things, Werdnae. Focus58 00:24, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Backgrounds? . . . oh damnit, I must have messed up last time I fiddled with them. They're supposed to be borders, with a white background around the sprites. I took the colours from the gender symbols in-game, but yeah, it's rather bright as a background. It looked better when it was a border. Werdnae (talk) 01:57, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Beautiful! UR GONNA MAYK MILLIONZ!!! Focus58 14:36, 19 April 2011 (UTC) Focus58 14:37, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Also, The back sprites don't work at all. Might have to put 'em in manually. Focus58 14:42, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Focus58 (Sheepishly): Oh. : ) I think ur gonna mayk millionz...I am entitled to my own opinion... Focus58 20:12, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Love it. The show/hide template really improves its functionality. --AndyPKMN (talk) 21:31, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Another thing-I think you should make the color for the gender differences a border, but keep the form color as a backround, unlike what you did with deerling and sawsbuck. I put this in Like because positive reinforcement is better than negitive reinforcement any day. *Random Emotacon* Focus58 15:26, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
They have to be consistent. It's either all borders or all backgrounds. Current plan is to go with borders. Werdnae (talk) 05:18, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
These look much nicer than the current ones. Truthseeker4449 01:53, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

I support entirely. I can't say much more. Goomba98 (talk) 12:38, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Detest

Needs work

There's a hanging |} at the bottom--but I'm not great with templates, so I'm not comfy editing it and possibly breaking something. Looks great, though! -- evkl (need to talk?) 22:51, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I've removed the extra |}. I also plan on adding the MS and a link to the archives category. For those that I know are going to ask at some point, the BW front and back are side-by-side to reduce the ammount of empty space. It'll probably be changed to match the others once we have another set (or two) of Gen V sprites, when there won't be enough room for them side-by-side. Werdnae (talk) 23:17, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
You should fix the width of the sprites, because some might "break" the table, such as Frost Rotom in Black and Deoxys's animated sprites in Emerald. Masatoshi talk contribs 09:06, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
By doing that it would mean that the sprites were shown the wrong size and out-of-proportion. If the sprite was too small it would be stretched, which would look even worse. And there'd still be an issue if the sprites are not square. Ideally, they should be re-uploaded the proper size where possible. In general, all Gen V sprites should be 96x96, all Gen IV sprites should be 80x80 and all Gen III sprites should be 64x64. I'm not sure what the rule is when it comes to those for which the animation exceeds those limits (still sprites never do).
The existing template did a good job of getting all/most of the sprites to be made transparent, by putting in a background. This one should help get them all the correct size. Werdnae (talk) 20:49, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
You're right about the sprite sizes. Unfortunately for animations, they can't be contained in those specific dimensions all the time, so we have to make a compromise between animation or still sprites. Jellotalk 20:56, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
The only issue at hand should be the Emerald spritesanipngs; the Crystal animations are standard, and the others are anipngs. Emerald should have a standard as well, but the place that we get it from are standard 64 x 64. ht14 20:59, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I'd prefer that the backgrounds of each sprite correspond to their version color, but I'm probably just being picky. :B --Chosen of Mana 17:33, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

I could give that a go, but I'd be worried it would wash out the sprites. Werdnae (talk) 01:27, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately it does wash out the sprites a little. I think I'll leave it as it is for now. Werdnae (talk) 05:48, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Unown? Fossils? Japan only sprites? Otherwise really awesome although I did like the transparency checking abilities of the backgrounds in the last version.--MisterE13 02:06, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

I haven't bothered with the Japanese ones. TTE says they are for the Japanese wiki, which is hosted on our server. They don't use images at the moment, since their laws are much tighter. It's been two years and they still don't have sprites. I'm not holding my breath. I can cross that bridge if they decide they want sprites. Or someone on their side can just copy the coding and change stuff around a tiny bit. Also, I don't know why we need a Gen II subtemplate for that. The only reason we have a Gen I one at all is that their games are different. (RG, B, Y as opposed to our RB, Y with RG tacked on).
The fossil sub-templates aren't actually used anywhere, so same deal. It won't be difficult for me to add/make a new template for them if and when it's required.
Unown. . . we only have the sprites for the Unown A for Gens IV and V. And Deth wanted me to cut out the time switchers, since their overuse does increase server load. (Hence why Arceus is always Normal-type sprites). So it will do what Unown's page currently does and only show the A sprites. Werdnae (talk) 02:49, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm actually the one who made the Gen II Japanese template as well as the fossil templates because Aipom, Slowbro, and Jynx all had changes done to one or more of their sprites between the Japanese and the English release. Also, I'm just not a fan of the way we currently display the Fossil sprites. I just ended up bringing those templates to your attention during this inevitable changing of the spritebox. On a somewhat related note, the Spikey-ear Pichu subtemplate I made has gone unused until now for similar reasons.--MisterE13 03:53, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about the delay. I got a bit busy.
Ah. I was thinking of the Gen I Jp subtemplate we have. I'll make a Gen II one now/soonish. Fossils. . . Yeah, alright. I'll code up another two subtemplates at some point. Werdnae (talk) 05:44, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
And done. Still need to add some Colo and XD sprites. At some point. Werdnae (talk) 05:48, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Found this piece of trivia on Donphan's page:
Donphan is one of several Pokémon whose sprites were altered during translation of Pokémon Silver. In Donphan's case, the underside of its trunk was changed from striped gray, similar to a real trunk, to solid black.
So it may be more than just Jynx, Aipom and Slowpoke. We don't actually have the Japanese Donphan sprites though. XVuvuzela2010X 16:06, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Hmm. As long as it sticks to Gen II what I've got should be fine. I just added an extra parameter for it because Aipom has gender differences, while the others don't, so it'd have been annoying to code it to use the gender(/forme) parameter. Werdnae (talk) 18:50, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Although you should know, HGSS or Platinum sprites should be Spr_b_4h/4p_###.png, not 4d. Note:Not all files are done though =P—★Pika3323 20:24, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
I know. It's just how it is to prevent the sync issues we get when sprites are linked to on Bulbapedia before they are uploaded on the Archives. Once the sprite uploading/redirecting is complete or at least closer to completion, I'll change it over before it gets put into use. Werdnae (talk) 21:58, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm working on them =P (original 150+1 is done =) Any way to open a box and close the other open one?—★Pika3323 22:57, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
I believe it is technically possible, but not with the limited show/hide setup we currently have. I've tried having a look at what would be required in the past, but I'm not good enough at the coding required - all I succeed in doing is confusing myself. Werdnae (talk) 01:57, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't like how the size for all the boxes changes in a major way, change it so that they're all even, and I'll be happier =) (Between gender differences, and generations)—★Pika3323 22:04, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
So you're saying you want me to add tons of blank space? Remember there'll only be the one table on any particular page. Also, sorry for not helping with the backsprites. (I did try some of the Gen II ones at some point, but I just ended up messing up everything I touched.) Werdnae (talk) 23:09, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
I messed up a lot of my stuff too... but I'm almost (almost as in 250+) done! =D—★Pika3323 00:13, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
What I meant was that it was distracting for each box to be different sizes, as in for only one pokemon with differences, because the differences weren't in Gen I, II, and III. (Distracting I call it. Because of the Bulbanews article template's linking box. =P)—★Pika3323 00:17, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that can be annoying. And it's made worse by the fact that the earlier gen sprites are smaller. But there's not a lot I can do about it without removing the show/hide alltogether. And that would make it giant for some Pokémon. Werdnae (talk) 00:52, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
2 down 6 to go...—★Pika3323 10:31, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Good work. Werdnae (talk) 05:18, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Back sprites are animated in Emerald and... Platinum onward? (not sure about DP). Compare Rayquaza from this screenshot to this one. Just informing. Marked +-+-+ 14:15, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

For Generation III, will the Colosseum box sprites and menu sprites, and XD box sprites and menu sprites be added to the template?
And regarding the edit I made in February about Japanese sprites, these are all of the Gold and Silver Pokemon with Japanese sprites (they have all been uploaded to the archives, inc Shinys). XVuvuzela2010X 14:27, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

The names for back sprites in Gen III and IV are incorrect. Eg. this is back sprite for Ruby and Sapphire (Emerald has an animated[note that in that screenshot Pidgey still has yellow glow from Ultra Ball]), this for FR/LG, and this for all Gen IV games. Marked +-+-+ 10:37, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Late replies here, I've been a bit busy. The reason all the back sprite names are wrong is that there's a sync/cache issue, where if Bulbapedia calls an image before it exists on the archives, it may still not show up for a while after it's uploaded. I'd rather minimise linking to non-existant images. They'll be changed once the relevant files on the archives are uploaded/redirected. As for the Colo and XD sprites, I'll look at adding the box sprites to the template. I'm not especially keen on adding the menu sprites as well, but I would be open for discussion.
Also, for those of you that have been doing sprite uploading, what have you covered? I've been a bit slack on that front, but I'm looking to get onto that when I can. All I can see is the categories and the list of numbers in each on the archives main talk page. Are the gaps in those categories where they are the same and need redirecting, or are there some that aren't checked yet? Werdnae (talk) 08:29, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
I've set up a potential addition in the Kabutops test using the non-shiny colo one as a placeholder. Werdnae (talk) 04:47, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Not much left to do actually, 5 of the needed categories are done I think... I've been gone way to long though. —★Pika3323 12:34, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Bumpah. Pidgey's back sprite in Crystal is different. Why it has GS backsprite there? Also there are some sprites like Meloetta's formes or Genesect back sprites, but under different name. Marked +-+-+ 12:34, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

I've mentioned this before. I don't want to change the template until all the sprites that will be used by them are done. Otherwise we could get sync issues where the file won't show up on Bulbapedia long after it is uploaded on the archives. I'm using the GS sprite as a placeholder for the crystal ones, so we can see how the template looks. Same as I'm using the DP sprites as a placeholder for the Pt and HGSS ones. Also I haven't been updating it as I go. I'll do it all at once when they're all ready. Werdnae (talk) 20:47, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

I like the new design overall but I think that RG should come before RB and Yellow in the template. While this is an English wiki, RG came out before Blue (which are the basis for out RB). Also, I believe the template should have some kind of note saying that the RB sprites are the same ones from the Japanese Blue.
Shouldn't the generation switch subtemplate have the same background as in Template:Dex and Template:Availability? I know that it may be unnecessary but I believe that it should be consistent with the other templates. SatoMew 15:55, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
