Colliding terms

Several terms in Pokémon franchise collide with the Finnish language. This includes the following:

Term What it means in Finnish
Kanto A stump of a tree.
Johto A cable.
Paras The best. (Quite ironically, Paras is far from "best".)
Aron Something belonging to a steppe (="steppe's").
Minun Something belonging to me (="mine").
Lumineon Snow neon.
Pastoria City "Pastoria" is the partitive form of word "pastori", which means, well, pastor.

The most dramatic episodes of the anime

This list covers all the episodes I've rewatched this far (=up to EP161) which I found to be dramatic in any way.

Prototype names

These are the prototype English names of certain Pokémon, picked from their pages' trivia sections. Please inform me if you happen to know where to find more of these (or if I missed any of the already listed ones).

I assume that National Dex is obtained after beating Elite Four for the first time. Kanto leaders are in that order because of some leaders can be battled before getting the Flute radio channel while others cannot.

If National Dex was reorganized...

...totally discarding everything in the previous games (thinking that DPPt were the first games and there wasn't any National order yet), and if I could make the reordering, this could be the new order.

Random thoughts

  • Finneon looks a LOT like a Kyogre pre-evolution to me.
  • Bug-type should in my opinion regain its weakness to Poison.
  • I always thought that Tate and Liza were both female.
  • I happened to watch a weird and fun remix of the Mystery Dungeon special episode in Finnish. I'm 100% sure that the VA for Charmander is the same as the one they used for Ritchie ages ago. I don't know his name, though. Also, Gengar sounds awfully familiar as well (I'd say that that VA had the role of Meowth). (if you want to see the video, even if you wouldn't understand the spoken parts, go here. (Note: I haven't seen a single whole episode in Finnish since they aired Johto episodes.)

How to recognize a hacked Pokémon

  • On what level was it encountered? There are very few wild level 1 Pokémon (Magikarp and Regigigas are the only ones I can think of at the moment).
  • Where it was encountered? There are several locations Pokémon cannot be found in, but these areas can still sometimes be found on hacked Pokémon data; I once got a Mismagius who was met in Battleground from GTS - this practically meant that it was stolen from Fantina by using a cheat. If the location has wild encounters, check that the Pokémon can really be met on that area. The encounter level can also conflict with the location.
  • What ball is it in? If it is a legendary, look at the ball it is caught in. Some Pokémon such as Jirachi cannot be caught in regular balls - most if not all event Pokémon are in Poké or Cherish Balls. Also, no Pokémon should be in Safari Ball except for those only obtainable in the three Safari Games (in RSE, FRLG and DPPt) and vice versa, and likewise, only event Pokémon are distributed in Cherish Balls.
  • What level it is? The thumb rule should be that the level should be at least the level the Pokémon evolves to, if it isn't the first stage Pokémon. There are exceptions, though.
  • Does it have abnormal moves? It's quite self-explanatory that you have a hacked Pokémon if your Zigzagoon has Flare Blitz, but there can also be more subtle situations such as Garchomp knowing Quick Attack, a move it should maybe know taking account its Pokédex entry but which it cannot really learn.
  • Did you get an unexpected foreign Pokédex entry? If the Pokémon is of a single-stage evolution family, its name should always reflect its name in the language the game it is caught is, unless the Pokémon is nicknamed. German, French and Japanese games have specific names for Pokémon, and Japanese games also limit the size of the nickname to five characters, even if Western characters are used. Evolved Pokémon do not count since if one receives a foreign Pokémon without a nickname and then makes it evolve, it changes to use the native name of the evolution, though it retains its foreign origin.
  • Does the Pokémon have unexpected ribbons? Generation IV Pokémon can never have any Generation III specific ribbons. Also, winning a Master rank contest is quite hard without proper condition.
  • Does the Pokémon have abnormally high condition? It's most probably impossible to max out every contest category condition of a single Pokémon. If the Pokémon has some condition, it should also have some stars in the Sheen box. Likewise, a Pokémon cannot have full sheen with zero condition.
  • Is it possible to get a shiny Pokémon of this species? If the Pokémon is shiny, it should be either met in the wild or hatched from an egg. Event Pokémon not obtainable directly in the games in a battle are typically programmed so that they will never be shiny.
  • What is the OT and ID No. of a Event Pokémon? Event Pokémon have specific OT's with specific ID Nos.
  • How much EXP does a level 100 Pokémon have? The EXP value might reveal that the Pokémon is hacked. For example, I got the other day a Lugia with over two million experience points via GTS - Lugia can have only 1.25 million EXP. points at level 100.

If all these things seem normal, then your Pokémon is most likely legitimate. It may still be hacked, but as there is no visible clue of it, this cannot be known by anyone.

How to recognize a cloned Pokémon

  • What is the name of the OT? Try to do a GTS search on different times of day. If you see many species with the same OT (such as multiple level 7 Jirachi with OT AAAAAAA), it's likely that you have a cloned Pokémon.
