Due to the amount of speculation and unneeded trivia on many articles in the past, I have decided to create a policy for the trivia section. This policy specifies what type of trivia there are on this wiki and what sort of trivia are notable and vice-versa.

Contents

What is Trivia?

Trivia is a collection of insignificant or obscure items, details, or information - little known or rare facts.

Species-based Trivia

These trivia appear on the Pokémon's species page and are separated into three sections: General Trivia, Name origin and Origins.

General Trivia

General trivia are any sort of relevant information that are interesting and informative. However, due to the fact that there are tonnes of these information, it is the notability of the trivia that counts.

Here are a list of general trivia that are notable:

  • In-game errors which may include, grammar and spelling mistakes, inaccurate information.
  • PokéDex entries that include real world references or contradictions.
  • Unique type combinations or unique total stats are fine, given as it is current to the latest generation.
  • Information widely considered being interesting that does not fit into another section of the article.
  • Controversies, changes and issues outside and inside of Japan. (See Jynx for example).
  • Milestones: Such as Bulbasaur being the first Grass type, Poison type, dual type etc. Though this only includes Pokémon who are the first and the last to be of a certain type. No Pokémon from in between should be mentioned to be the 2nd, 3rd and so forth.

Here are a list of general trivia that are unnotable and shouldn't be added for whatever reason:

  • Different trainer, same Pokémon: Just not worth mentioning.
  • Stat drops: Not rare, most Pokémon has their stat dropped upon evolution.
  • Anything visibly by the naked eye: this goes for all aspect of the franchise; sprites, Sugimori artwork, anime, Manga etc.
  • Speculation and Opinion: Of course, adding speculation and opinion is frowned upon in Bulbapedia.
  • Ridiculously stupid trivia: Like three Pokémon in a row starting with the same letter in the English language.
  • Pokémon similarities to other characters of other anime/cartoons: Though they are acceptable, but if they only have one thing in common, it is considered opinion.

Origin

These sort of trivia explain the possible origin of a single Pokémon. These are largely derived from in-game descriptions of the Pokémon.

Name origin

These trivia explain the possible origin of a Pokémons name, English and Japanese. The origin of English names are largely speculative unless the origin is obvious to identify. Japanese names must be handled by a user who knows Japanese. Note that pages of Cities, Towns Characters etc. have their own Name origin section, this rule still implies for those pages.

Other languages must be compiled into a template underneath this section, like Japanese names, foreign names must be handled by a user who speaks or has knowledge on the language.

Sprite Trivia

Sprite trivia was a topic most present in almost every species page. However, because of the amount of unneeded sprite trivia we decided to ban all sprite trivia that regards its colors and minor alterations.

Though there are some sprite trivia that are notable.

  • Major alterations like Jynx or RBY sprite exclusive features (such as Vaporeon's additional fins) are acceptable.

Episode-based trivia

These types of trivia appear on episode pages and are also separated into three sections: General Trivia, Errors and Dub Edits. These pieces information are considered trivia and are only included in episode articles.

General Trivia

Similar to species page, general trivia must relevant to the episode in question.

Here are a list of general trivia that are notable:

  • Episode gaps between Gym battles, appearances etc.
  • Coincidental episode gaps or any other droughts.
  • Size discrepancies
  • Anime move errors
  • Breaking the fourth wall
  • Coincidences: Coincidence are when a subject in Pokémon is unusually the same in different media or the franchise itself. Though coincidences that predate a certain subject aren't notable.

Here are a list of general trivia that are unnotable and shouldn't be added for whatever reason:

  •  ???

Errors

Errors are any sort of mistake or inconsistency found in an episode. These are some examples of errors.

  • Miscolor: with the exception of shinies
  • An object overlapping another
  • Inaccurate past anime references

Dub edits

Dub edits are those little but major edits the dubbing company do, though there are some dub edits that are notable. Notable dub edits are listed as so. Note that subs are not dub edits.

  • Inaccurate translation
  • Dub added stuff only
  • Dialogue change between original and dub
  • Censorship
  • Dub errors.

Other

There are many pages that have trivia that are not for the above pages but a single area of the franchise. Here are a list of other aspects of the franchise that might have a trivia section.

Anime-based

Includes pages on Voice actors, Seasons and Series, Characters, Songs.

Game-based

Includes pages on Main series games, spin off games, types, abilities.

TCG-based

Includes pages on various decks and cards.

Manga-based

Includes pages on several mangas.

Miscellaneous

Includes pages on books, merchandise.

A reminder

When adding trivia be sure you:

  • Use good grammar and correct spelling.
  • Use link templates whenever necessary.
  • Do not start with Interestingly, Strangely or anything similar.

Do you want to add Trivia?

If you want to add any trivia, whether it is notable or not, you must suggest it in the talk page of the desired article. An admin, and only admins, can say whether your trivia is notable or not. Do not go adding trivia without doing this first.

Conclusion

Thank you for taking your time to read this policy, I hope you could give us useful and enjoyable trivia.
