From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
| This article is a proposed policy for Bulbapedia.
Please discuss the proposed policy and suggest possible changes on the article's talk page. |
Due to the amount of speculation and unneeded trivia on many articles, I have decided to create a policy for the trivia section. This policy specifies what type of trivia is and is not worth mentioning, it will affect every article with a trivia section.
Contents |
What is Trivia?
Trivia is a collection of insignificant or obscure items, details, or information - little known or rare facts.
What trivia is worth mentioning?
If you have any suggestions on what is worth mentioning, mention it on the talk page. If you are an admin, go ahead and add it here.
Anime trivia
- Coincidental episode gaps, appearances etc.
- Cross canon references
- Size discrepancies
- Anime move errors
Game trivia
- In-game error; such as the Cinnabar man claiming his newly traded Raichu "went and evolved".
- PokéDex contradictions; Such as Muk's footprints
Miscellaneous
- Information widely considered being interesting that does not fit into another section of the article.
What trivia is not worth mentioning?
If you have any suggestions on what is not worth mentioning, mention it on the talk page. If you are an admin, go ahead and add it here.
Anime
- Different trainer, same Pokémon; Just not worth mentioning.
Game trivia
- Stat drops; not rare, most Pokémon has their stat dropped upon evolution.
Miscellaneous
- Anything visibly by the naked eye; this goes for all aspect of the franchise, sprites, Sugimori artwork, anime, Manga etc.
- Speculation and Opinion; Of course, adding speculation and opinion is frowned upon on the wiki.
- Ridiculously stupid trivia; Like three Pokémon in a row starting with the same letter in the English language.
- Pokémon similarities to other characters of other anime/cartoons; though they are alright, but if they only have one thing in common, it is considered opinion.
Sprite Trivia
These type of trivia take up nearly half of the trivia section, and as a result all the sprite trivia’s were removed; whether they were notable or not. This is a list on what type of Sprite Trivia is allowed not allowed.
Allowed
- Differences among Generations; These sprite trivias are those where the sprite is missing or had an extra detail an any part of their body, detail that had been removed or adjusted in future generations are also notable.
Disallowed
- Color; don’t mention it, the colors were due to the color limitations on the GBC or the quality between the GBA and DS.
- Similarities between Sugimori artwork and Sprite; this is visible by the naked eye.
Errors and Dub edits
These types of information are considered trivia and are only included in episode articles. There are certain restrictions as what an error is, and what dub edits are.
Errors
Errors must be an actual error; these are some examples of errors.
- Miscolor; with the exception of shinies
- An object overlapping another
- Inaccurate past anime references
Dub edits
Dub edits are listed as so.
- Dub added stuff only
- Dialogue change between original and dub
- Censorship
Origin
This is only seen on Pokémon articles. These explain the possible origin of a single Pokémon. These are largely derived from in-game descriptions of the Pokémon.
Final word
If you create a trivia, make sure you use proper grammar and spelling, if not, it will be removed entirely. If you have a trivia that you think is notable, please mention on the talk page of the article the desired trivia should be placed, sysops, and only sysops, have the power to judge and agree or disagree whether it is notable or not.
Thank you for taking your time to read this policy, I hope you could give us useful and enjoyable trivia.
