Montgomery's Throh (Japanese: マサオミのナゲキ Masaomi's Nageki) is the only Pokémon known to be owned by Montgomery. He made his first anime appearance in The Clubsplosion Begins!.

Montgomery introduced Throh after Stephan began bragging that his Sawk was the greatest there was. He did not believe Sawk could be called the greatest until he defeated Throh in battle. As the two were leaving, Throh bumped his shoulder into Sawk's which immediately created hostility between the two as well as a rivalry. In Search for the Clubultimate!, he went against Delbert's Mienshao and was able to dodge every single one of its attacks, and sending Mienshao airborne with Superpower. He knocked it out of the tournament after a Seismic Toss followed by a Circle Throw.

Throh and Sawk

In A Clubsplosion of Excitement!, Throh was put up against Iris's Excadrill. He easily blocked his Drill Run attack by grabbing his claws then used Circle Throw which got him out of his drill form. Throh then used Superpower to get Excadrill out of the ground when he used Dig. He then used Seismic Toss on Excadrill and knocked him and Iris out of the tournament. When Iris ran out on the battlefield to check on her Pokémon, Throh bowed his head in an apologetic way in a reaction to seeing how worried she was. In Commanding the Clubsplosion Crown!, Throh's opponent in the semi-final round was Ash's Scraggy. He was not intimidated in the least by Scraggy's Leer and even leered back at him. Though it wasn't a move, it did make Scraggy feel uneasy and back away from Throh. He stood there as Scraggy attacked with a barrage of Focus Blasts which all missed their mark. He then tried to attack with Hi Jump Kick but Throh caught Scraggy mid jump then threw him to the ground with Circle Throw. Scraggy attacked him with Headbutt next and though it made contact, it did no damage to Throh and he countered with Superpower. He knocked out the Shedding Pokémon using Seismic Toss and advanced Montgomery to the final round where he would face off against Stephan's Sawk.

Sawk would prove to be more difficult to subdue than his other opponents. He did manage to block his oncoming attacks and also landed a few of his throwing moves but the Karate Pokémon would always break his falls and getback to his feet. Throh did manage to subdue him for a moment with Bind but he countered with Bulk Up then Close Combat and escaped. Finally, Throh attempted to finish the match by using Seismic Toss on Sawk. On the way down, however, Sawk slipped out of his grasp which also caused them both to plummet uncontrollably to the ground below, leaving both Pokémon lying motionless on the battlefield. Hearing Montgomery's calls, Throh managed to get back up first while Sawk struggled to stand. Just before he was about to grab him again, he turned around and landed a direct and heavy Close Combat. Even after that, Throh was still standing and appeared to be ready to go another round. However, his rival knew he was finished and decided to retreat from battle rather than causing any further damage. Throh would faint from exhaustion shortly after that.

Personality and characteristics

Throh is a dedicated fighter and will not stop even if he has reached his limit, as seen in Commanding the Clubsplosion Crown!. Like the others of his species, he will tighten his belt to show that he's ready to take on anything that is coming at him. His fighting style calls for him to wait for his opponent to make the first, opposite to that of Sawk, move and can easily dodge or block attacks. Most of the time he appears intimidating and can make an opponent freeze just by starting at them. However, he does appear to have a gentle side as seen when he bowed his head apologetically to Iris when seeing how worried she was for her defeated Excadrill.
