Dodrio opens its beaks and positions its heads so each beak becomes a corner in the shape of a triangle. An orb of energy then forms inside Dodrio's beaks, the right one colored green, the top one indigo and the left one red. A red triangle then forms in between the orbs. Once the triangle starts to turn indigo, Dodrio fires the triangle at the opponent.

Trivia
- Though many Pokémon whose design incorporates three heads learn this move, neither Exeggutor nor Combee can learn the move; Combee's case may be due to evolving into a Pokémon that does not have three heads, while Exxeggutor's case may be due to the fact that, aside from Hydreigon, all Pokemon in the anime have had to position parts of their bodies in a triangle shape to execute Triangle Attack, which is a feat that Exeggutor is unable to accomplish due to having its heads fixed in place side-by-side on its trunk.
- Tri Attack is one of the two non-Ice-type moves that can freeze the target, the other being Secret Power.
- Tri Attack is also the only Normal-type move that can cause a burn.
