Effect
Generation II
Thief inflicts damage and then the user steals the target's held item. The item cannot be stolen if the user is already holding an item, or if the target is not holding an item.
Generation III
Thief will not always steal the target's held item. The chance of the target's held item being taken increases with each consecutive hit. In addition, the item cannot be stolen if the target has the Sticky Hold ability.
