Template talk:TalkText

Hmm, it's possible to set the template to automatically add the signature and date on it's own. It would simplify the template a ton, I think (as it is, there's a bunch of variables to fill in every time you use it). Unless someone has a reason why it's better this way, I can add in the coding a little later... -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:54, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Testing this.
  • ~~~~~ gives 10:57, 10 October 2008 (UTC).
  • ~~~ gives Gywall(Talk).

I can't think of a way to produce a pure text signature.

The only difference is, this would have to be called by {{subst:TalkText|image=001.png|size=80|name=Someone|text=Blah}} first. Unless a switch is put for the name variable existing or not. If non-existent, placing an automatic ~~~ on the top line.

Just the fact it'd need to be called differently, would bloat pages a little..

The wiki I pillaged the template from got round this by having a template with the image & username per user. I believe this is against Bulbapedia's rules though.

Hmm. Then if we split it up so you used like: {{TalkText/Header|image=001.png}}~~~~{{TalkText/Middle}}Text and words go here{{TalkText/Footer}}
That'd mean three sub-templates for those not wanting to use the current one, or those that like their colourful signatures. Also, the fact the image is 100px fixed stretches many images. 64px square are GBA sprites, 80px square are DS sprites.. Gywall(Talk) 13:32, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

That sounds fair enough.

Is there a way of setting a default on a template that is filled in if a variable isn't given? So say you wanted to use the original resolution sprite put in size=64 or size=80 but if you leave it blank it auto-fills size=100. Is that doable? I don't really know wiki markup stuff.

It is.. Try like.. {{{size|100}}}. I think that's how it's done.. Gywall(Talk) 15:10, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
