Trivia
Origin
Shieldon is based on a Ceratopsian dinosaur and a shield. Its lack of horns makes it particularly similar to a Protoceratops.
Shieldon resembles a Helmasaur from The Legend of Zelda Series
Name origin
Shieldon's name is derived from "shield" referring to the shield-like growth on its head, and don which is a suffix in various dinosaur names. Tatetops comes from the words 盾 tate, shield, and -tops, which is a suffix that's used in the names of horned dinosaurs and means "head". Its German name, Schilterus, comes from Schild. Its French name, Dinoclier, comes from dinosaure and bouclier. Korean name comes from words 'shield' (방패, bangpae) and 'tops' (톱스), the same suffix used in its Japanese name.
