Guardians of Mt Pyre

Guardians of Mt Pyre? Isn't that that old couple that looks like them? Last I looked, Tate and Liza weren't in their 80s. - unsigned comment from Blackjack Gabbiani (talkcontribs)

According to Chapter 228, Tate and Liza are the secret guardians of Mt. Pyre, which is why the Pokemon Association allowed two people to be Gym Leaders at the same Gym.

- Zeta

So who're the old couple then? - unsigned comment from Blackjack Gabbiani (talkcontribs)

Just and old couple who help Tate and Liza.

- Zeta

They seem to match up with the old couple atop Mt Pyre in the games. Are they related? - unsigned comment from Blackjack Gabbiani (talkcontribs)

I suspect they're T&L's grandparents, but I can't be sure. Hank distracted Tate and Liza, and that's basically their only appearence in the story. They're all supposedly still at Mt. Pyre fighting illusions throughout most of the RSE story. The author kind of shoved them to the side.

Name origin

Just by the by, I always figured Tate and Liza came from "Tantalize" but maybe I just made that up. -GreenGiant

Name Pun

What do you think their japanese names mean? - unsigned comment from Siegfried (talkcontribs)

Twins or not

Liza is older? I thought they are twins. - unsigned comment from Maxim (talkcontribs)

With twins, there's always an older twin - they are not born at the same moment. (If they were - ouch. I'd feel bad for their mother.) Though the difference in time may be small, it can affect them psychologically. --Pie 17:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Order of Names

When you battle them in RSE the order is "Tate & Liza". So, should we move this page to Tate & Liza? --Maxim 15:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I always thought we named it Liza and Tate because Liza, alphabetically, comes first. --PAK Man Talk 18:19, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Tate and Liza's Lunatone and Solrock

Hey everyone. I was just thinking, as Brandon's Regis are now grouped together on one page, couldn't the same be done for Tate and Liza's Lunatone and Solrock. I mean, it solves the argument over which of their Pokémon deserves a page and at the moment they're the only Hoenn Gym Leaders who don't have a specific page for their signature Pokémon. Watchermark 13:38, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

"The Only Hoenn Gym Leaders With More Than Hyper Potion"

From the trivia section: "They are the only Gym Leaders to carry more than two Hyper Potions in their first battle. This is likely due to them being a duo, with each of them holding two Hyper Potions each." I fought Norman, and while trying to defeat his Slaking, he used two Hyper Potions as well. Don't Hug Lucario! 18:06, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

It says "more than two Hyper Potions." Norman uses exactly two, so he is not an exception. —Minimiscience 18:28, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah. I have no idea how I misread that. Thanks for correcting me. Don't Hug Lucario! 18:48, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Question

Does anyone think that this page could be separated into two? One for Tate, and one for Liza. This is just because, even if they ARE the only Leaders to fight simultaneously, they ARE separate gym leaders. I think we might be able to bring this to discussion, so please respond. Hello, EvilKirikizan speaking. 21:59, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Could you please detail what the differences between the two articles would be? Because there's no point in making two articles when one can do so more than adequately. Werdnae (talk) 01:18, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Hmm... I didn't think about that. I just figured that it was standard to do that with leaders. But you got me there. - unsigned comment from EvilKirikizan (talkcontribs)

Wait. What?

How is Tate a boy?- unsigned comment from Pokemoninfo (talkcontribs)

Anyways, the name, and the anime voice are 2 examples of why he is a boy ^_^ ~ Blitzamirin ~ 21:44, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, sometimes twins can be a boy and a girl. Now if you want to know the difference between boys and girls, I suggest you go ask your parents. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 04:10, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Split

Since they battle separately in the World Tournament in Black 2 and White 2, should they be split into their own articles? --SnorlaxMonster 16:45, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

I don't really think so. It's a single (and potentially non-canon) occasion where they're not packed together. - Taylor (talk) 10:42, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I agree that it doesn't need to be split. The PWT team is probably the only time so far that they aren't battling together. Torpoleon (talk) 11:43, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Their quotes are connected, anime and manga appearances were always together, and most of their Pokémon are the same (It's even hard to distinguish who owns some of them). If this article was split, we would have two copies of the same article article with slight differences. |) u |( e ® 12:37, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't think they should be. Despite their recent appearance as being separate, they're commonly presented as being together as "Tate & Liza". Additionally, as Duke R's said, it sounds like it would just be the same page with minor changes in each; being nearly impossible to distinguish their teams (for editors) and likely just confusing readers looking for information on both. They could read both pages, but I think that's just an unnecessary endeavor. Mitsuru (talk) 15:19, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I vote against split, one battle apart shouldn't justify three games worth of battles, an anime and a manga appearance together. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 01:04, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Same here, this Black 2 and White 2 stuff is mainly a one time thing. It's okay to keep it the way it is now. -Tyler53841 (talk) 05:33, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, since everyone seems to be happy with this the way it is now, and I wasn't strongly in favour either way, I'll take down the split notice. I was just interested in what people thought. Thanks for your opinions guys. --SnorlaxMonster 07:07, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Ironically that is what I thought of at first when I saw the Youtube footage confirming they fighting separately but decided against it. -Tyler53841 (talk) 07:17, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Fraternal/Identical

I'm confused. Tate and Liza look exactly alike besides hairstyles (which doesn't really count), implying that the two are identical twins. However, identical twins are always the same gender. So, are they fraternal twins that just happen to look exactly alike or what? uNsUsPeCtInG fOoL (talk) 21:22, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Most likely yes.--Den Zen 21:34, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
It takes place in a fictional world, which most likely has its own biology. Scarabola (talk) 22:01, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Going off chromosomes alone, it is entirely possible to have all but the sex chromosome the same in siblings in the real world. --SnorlaxMonster 16:29, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Solrock's Ability

As the only Ability Solrock may have is Levitate, shouldn't it be stated with it's moves like Lunatone, or not because of it maybe didn't display the Ability in the Anime?TurtleLover1999 (talk) 22:22, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Nope. Despite Levitate being the only Ability Solrock had at the time, it was not shown activating it. Solrock did float in the air but nobody mentioned it as Levitate. Besides, the anime works differently than the games. PattyMan 23:15, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
