Once we figure out how Dosydon's new trait effects super effective damage, we ough to make a note with the correct variables. For now, all that's known is that "super effective damage is lessened" with it's "Hard Rock" trait. --ANinyMouse 01:29, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Hard Rock

I don't believe that Hard Rock lowers damage by half i think its only 33% --DSDark 02:00, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Rhyperior in the anime

Obviously Rhyperior is a strong Pokémon, I guess it will have position in the anime. Perhaps being one of Ash/Brock/Paul's (probably Ash's) Pokémon.-Billy4b2004 02:48, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I doubt that Ash will get one. He rarely gets a fully evolved Pokémon unless it's one of the starters. And Brock never gets Pokémon. I say Paul is the most likely canidate. --ケンジ ガール 09:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I hope Brock gets one. It'd be a real upturn for him to get two Rock-types. TTEchidnaGSDS! 10:30, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I think he would directly catch it as a Rhyperior like Noctowl. It would help him so much in the Sinnoh League battles like Snorlax, Sceptile and Charizard. And it will be Ash's first rock-type.It is better to train different types Pokémon in order to become a Pokémon master!-Billy4b2004 02:48, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

It'd be caught as a Rhydon, at the very least, likely near the northern entrance to Mt. Coronet. TTEchidnaGSDS! 10:37, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think a Rhyperior is in Ash's future. For starters, the only time Ash ever caught a Pokémon that can reach a third stage as a third stage, it was on Ash's team for all of two minutes. Additionally, odds are pointing to Riolu as being Ash's sixth Pokémon and his main Fighting-type (yes, I do see Chimchar evolving, but it will be continued to be used mainly as a Fire-type), which means we'd have to rob him of one of his traditional mainstay types, most likely Turtwig, to get a Rhyhorn or Rhydon onto Ash's team.
And if Ash were to get rid of Turtwig, odds are he'd replace it with another Grass-type such as Cherubi (which I'd see going to Dawn instead if she doesn't get a Chikorita), Tangela, or Snover. Budew's out of the picture since Nando has a Roselia, Carnivine is out of the picture since James has one, and I highly doubt Ash would catch a Grass-form Wormadam directly. --Shiningpikablu252 21:29, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Can anyone imagine a huge drilling machine like Rhyperior with 5 small and cute Pokémon???? JmathTalk 18:37, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Nope. --Shiningpikablu252 21:29, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

It's time for Ash to win a league, the Sinnoh League. He'd no longer need some small and cute Pokémon. It'd be the best for him to have Floatzel, Staraptor, Infernape, Torterra, Pikachu and Rhyperior or some strong Pokémon that fit in his team. The thing that is mentioned by Lucian in An Elite Meet and Greet! cannot be proved if Ash cannot win the Sinnoh League.-Billy4b2004 14:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but Ash also talked with Drake and how to win. He still never fought the Hoenn Elite 4. The Elite 4 don't seem to be an actualy challenge in the anime, so much as just the people considered the 4 strongest.
Forget Rhyperior for Ash's sixth Pokémon if he faces the Sinnoh Elite 4. He should get a Riolu that eventually eveolves into a Lucario. He's already done things with Aura and with a Lucario, so he should get one in Sinnoh. Diachronos 16:40, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Not Worth Noting

"Similar to Magmortar, Rhyperior can shoot things from its arms."

That's pretty much a "who cares" detail. It's already mentioned in the "Special Abilities" sections. SharKing15:40, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Last Rock-type?

Rhyperior isn't the last rock type in the National Dex. Probopass is. Should that note in Trivia be deleted? GigaMetroid99 13:56, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Go ahead, as long as you properly state it. ^_^ Ҝəυzø8 13:58, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Miner?

Does it seem to anyone else that Rhyperior is based on a stereotypical miner? The ring of orange rocks around its waist resembles a miner's belt, and the rocks on its shoulders resemble suspender straps. And the horns on its head could represent the helmet light. Compare these two:

Um...I don't see it... --Theryguy512 14:25, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I see it, it would be a fat miner but I definably see what you mean. Also it looks like it has noise dampening ear muffs, something a miner/construction worker sometimes uses with heavy machinery -- D558 11:19, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
What's your point? A comparison like this is an opinion and cannot go into the article. -Sketch 11:26, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

There is definatly a resemblance. It should go in the page. Poisson14 20:03, 23 August 2009 (UTC) It bears a lot more of a resemblence to a miner than to some japanese movie monster or a triceratops. It has horns: woo-hoo. Doesn't mean it is based on a triceratops. It doesn't have spines on it, contrary to what the page says. The plates are placed just right to look like overalls, earmuffs, and a toolbelt. If it was completly covered in plates I would agree that it does not look like one, but it is not, and they are placed in the right places. Poisson14 20:28, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

I totally see and think it should be included! It is more accurate then "Triceratops". Only Rhyhorn had Triceratops inspiration.Tro 02:17, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I guess that resemblance could be added in the Origin section but I'm not 100% sure, 1. Did you hear Sketch? 2. I don't see a large resemblance. If we noted every little trait comparison between a Pokémon and something else, there would be too much unnecessary information. --Bee § Bwakka 02:22, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I see a much more profound resemblance to this miner design then any Dinosaur or a tank, which are mentioned. The dinosaur part is worth mentioning because of his pre-evos and he is obviously inspired to be a RhinoSaurs. BUT his plates are placed to peculiar to be asumed it's anlysksaur (can't spell it :/) inspired, save the tail. The tank is ok to be mentioned briefly because that would explain the arms having holes in the palms. But over all, the miner idea makes A LOT more sense now. It should be the primary origin reference. I mean, defensive plates on dinos are usually on the back, tail, head, limbs. Just a random belt of plates going around seems "clumsy" for Game Freak. No real animal has plates on it underbelly. It's just plain odd. This leads us to look at another source. That when this miner idea sets it. It explains a lot of Rhyperior's features and would probably make people hate Rhyperior less due to his "stoopid" design. I mean, look at it. A toolbelt, suspenders, ear muffs, horns, etc. I'm sure there is a lot that people can start associating Rhyperior here, to a miner. I personally noticed the silver part under his chin. It looks almost like an undershirt. You know, like what any man might were under there uniform. If you unbotton your dress shirt 2 buttons, you get a pick of the shirt underneath. I think that might be what happened to Rhyperior's design. Remember Rhydon's underbelly was that color and texture. So this looks like Rhydon literally but on a thick brown shirt. This would also explain Rhyperior's color change from silver to a brownish town. Away from stone and rock and more to a ground tone. Not to mentioned Rhyperior's shiny sprite has GOLDEN plates. Why do most people think when you say Miner? Probably Gold, or some other precious metal, or even oil. But still. You may be able to see a trend here. I MAY be reading to much into this, but it makes more sense then "Triceratops". Don't get me wrong! I love Triceratops! My favorite herbivores Dinosaur since I was little. That's partly why I love Rhyhorn and his family line so much, but I really just don't see it in Rhyperior anymore. His head is shaped differently.Tro 04:31, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Wow. You make a good argument. And on your first day, too. Sure, add it for now, I won't bother an admin. But if a staff member removes it, don't re-add it. --Bee § Bwakka 05:11, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very very much. You don't understand how much that means to me. Oh, and please excuse all those typos in there. I typed that up off my iPhone. I'll fix it tomorrow morning. Anyways, uh, yeah. Thank you. It is my first day, but I am a HARD CORE RHYPERIOR FAN. He just doesn't get enough love! I think the reason is people just don't understand his design. They call him a "fat Rhydon that eat to many rocks". That hurts me. It's so much deeper then that. And this miner idea seems to be the key. Hopefully people will look at Rhyperior differently now that he actually has a logical inspriation, rather then just a mix of this and that. I like Rhyperior before, but this has made my love ever so more profound. Haha. I joined today in hopes of seeing what Bulbapedia had to offer in terms of forums and discussion but when I saw I could edit Rhyperior's page myself. I had to contribute my theories. I'll try and add a nicely worded section in the origin section tomorrow explain what I said above in wiki speak. Although I am new to this so it might not be as great as someone else might make. But, we'll see. Maybe someone can polish and wax it afterwards. Thanks again!Tro 05:24, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Ok How about this for the new origin section:

Like it's two pre-evolutions, it appears to draw much of its inspiration from a rhinoceros, a small amount from various dinosaurs (most notably, an Ankylosaurus due to it's clubbed tail and many defensive plates). It's overall physic and rough hide resembles many aspects from even carnivorous dinosaurs, even such as a Tyrannosaurs-Rex as it's Chinese name implies. It's arms, having holes in the palms to shoot rocks out of, seems most likely a reference to a tank, symbolizing Rhyperior's awesome power and defense. But it's major design inspiration is that of a stereotypical miner. Although Rhyperior gives off the vibe of a dinosaur the placement of it's defensive plates are to peculiar to assume it's in relation to an Ankylosaurus. Animals usually have defensive plates on there backs, heads, hails, and/or limbs. Very few animals have any kind of protection on there underbelly, which begs the question: is it of other origin? The ring of orange rock like plates around its waist resemble a miner's tool belt. The rocky shoulder pads on its upper body resemble that of suspenders. The silver underbelly that is showing under it's chin resembles that of an undershirt poking out from under a uniform or pair of overalls (Rhydon has the same color and textured underbelly. It looks as if Rhydon literally took off it's silver vest and put on brown overalls, along with suspenders, and earmuffs. If you look close enough you can see Rhydon's face in Rhyperior's). In some artwork it shows Rhyperior as having jagged "collars" on the edge of his mouth, resembling an actual collar of uniform or dress shirt.

0443.png (I don't know if we can put this image next to the section or not?)

It's head sports a band of defensive plates that resemble noise dampening earmuffs. It's horn can also be seen as representing the helmet light that miner's use to see deep underground. It even has orange triangle shaped eyebrows that resemble bushy, masculine eyebrows. Their hide is said to be able to withstand an explosion from a volcano. This also plays into the miner theme as modern miners use dynamite and other explosives to help move mass amounts of rock. Rhyperior's tank like arms might be able to replicate a similar explosion, thus aiding it in it's own excavations. Shiny Rhyperiors further emphasizes the miner theme with having golden defensive plates. Miner are usually always associated with gold.

Tro 23:39, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I was also thinking of reworking the Physiology section to bring out the point that Rhyperior looks like a Rhydon with a heavy suit of rock armor made for mining. Not to mention the obvious pun done with the whole Rhyhorn family. RhinoSaurs. Since Rhinoceros sounds a lot like Rhinosaurs, saurs being a suffix that most dinosaur names have meaning "Lizard" and since rhino, from afar, don't look anything like mammals, I think GameFreak/Nintendo, did a running joke or pun with this. I don't know if anyone else agrees.Tro 23:39, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I do like your origin paragraph, but the paragraph on the page can't be nearly as long. A rule of thumb: If you can't keep the attention of a 13-year-old with ADHD (like me), then it's too long. --Bee § Bwakka 23:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Fair enough, let me try and summarize what I have up there.Tro 17:15, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Rhyperior's Japanese Name

Sidon is Rhydon's, so Dosidon would be "strong Sidon". das Plinfa Mädchen 18:41, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

It's just how the artists made him pose. Many people got butt hurt over the Registeel sprite too, but come on this is Pokemon...there is absolutely nothing about Hitler here nor anywhere else in Pokemon. insomniac 01:52, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
