Unlike all other Pokémon who share at least one of their two abilities with their evolutions, a Rhydon with Lightningrod will always evolve into a Rhyperior with Solid Rock, while one with Rock Head will become a Rhyperior with Lightningrod. It is unknown why this is the case.
This trivia is not true, a Rhydon with Lightingrod will always evolve into a Rhyperior with Lightingrod, and a Rhydon with Rock Head will always evolve into a Rhyperior with Solid Rock, unless the Rhydon was obtained in Pal Park, where it'd be random.
