I am sorry, but I don't know how to edit the box with one's Pokémon. May someone please do it? ~Light

James Forever

I don't really like the idea of moving it to "Gardenia's Cacnea". It's still James' Pokémon, isn't it, even if given away. It's not called Benny's Lickitung, is it? And how often do you think Gardenia (or, indeed, Cacnea) is going to show up again? Once they leave Eternia, we'll never see either again. It's notable only as James' Pokémon, and should just get a brief mention that he left it behind with Gardenia at the end of the entry. That's it. --DarkfireTaimatsu 23:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I completely agree with DarkfireTaimatsu. It's not like Cacnea is going to a many character like Paul's Chimchar is.
Truthfully I believe we should wait until the episodes premier before we go moving all the pages around. This is a future event after all and doing this could confuse people.
And think about it. Do we also call them Anthony's Primeape or Susie's Vulpix? No we don't.
And I know we call Haunter Sabrina's and I'm guessing that's why this idea was thought of. But think about it. Ash never formally caught Hunter and he only had it for two episodes. James's Cacnea has been with him for like what, over 200 episodes. Yeah, this was a mistake. --ケンジガール 00:26, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
You know, the only reason we call the articles Sabrina's Haunter and Casey's Beedrill is because they were owned for rediculously short amounts of time. Cacnea was owned for practically the entire Hoenn arc, as well as the Battle Frontier and the first 52 episodes of Sinnoh. There is no reason why this should have been renamed. --PAK Man Talk 02:21, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Definitely either move this back (preferred) or move the above-mentioned Lickitung, Vulpix, and Primeape. Zurqoxn 02:32, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Forgetting that Benny and Anthony are characters of the day? Articles on Pokémon belonging to a character of the day are, for the most part, considered non-notable here on Bulbapedia. Sugar, Number Six, and Kay's Raichu have been deleted as such. The only cases in which an article for a COTD's Pokémon would be considered notable is if the Pokémon would be considered a COTD in its own right, such as Puka and Orville (Nero wasn't successfully caught). --Shiningpikablu252 02:39, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Forrest is certainly notable enough for his own article yet his Pokémon are still under Brock's name. And with good reason: The fact that they belonged to a main character is why they get their own article regardless of the circumstances of their departure. (Should we move released Pokémon to "Wild Butterfree/Arbok/Weezing/etc" under the same logic?) The only exception I see is Beedrill, who has become one of Casey's main Pokémon while the first thing Ash did was give it to her. --FabuVinny T-C-S 17:48, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I am for the article remaining as James's Cacnea, taking into consideration Ash's Charizard which departed under similar circumstances, (Read: training to become stronger). Just as Ash's Charizard remains his under Liza's care, James's Cacnea remains his under Gardenia's. Trainer-c 14:14, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Gardenia

I think that it should stay under Gardenia's Cacnea. It is Gardenia's Pokémon now (James doesn't have a Cacnea!), so it should be named after Gardenia, who owns it. We don't have Ash's Haunter, it's Sabrina's Haunter, so the argument that it belonged to a main character isn't enough to make it stay as James's Cacnea. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs 12:09, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

It's only Sabrina's Haunter because Ash owned it for one episode, and it has never been alluded to again. It is not Benny's Lickitung because he is a character of the day, and we do not have articles about character of the day's Pokémon. Same thing with Ash's Primeape and why it isn't called Anthony's Primeape. James owned Cacnea for well over 200 episodes, and what are the odds of Gardenia appearing with the darn thing ever again? I say move it back, and move protect it so that nobody else can move it. --PAK Man Talk 15:09, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
The poll isn't over yet. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs 20:28, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Once it is, I think this page should be move protected so that moves like this don't happen. --PAK Man Talk 20:47, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
You seem to be assuming that James will win. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs 21:01, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm not assuming anything. I'm just saying this so it will settle any disputes. I'm sorry if I seem really frustrated about this. This morning, somebody moved Jessie's Lickitung to Benny's Lickitung, which is not what it should be named. So this issue is really bugging me right now. --PAK Man Talk 21:04, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
This isn't about winning or losing. This is about coming to a sensible decision on article naming. Everything about that poll reeks of attempting to manipulate the system. --FabuVinny T-C-S 02:05, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Why is nobody doing this about Ash's Buizel/Dawn's Aipom? There is hardly any discussion about that! -KPF

Because that's really obvious. If the trade happens, we'll move it. TTEchidna 18:34, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Focus Punch?

Are you sure that's what it was? The Focus Punch's used by May's Munchlax and Ash's Aipom were glowing white and the attack Cacnea used was green. --ケンジガール 01:49, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Drain Punch, according to Dogasu. Cassius335 00:03, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Ah, it's been corrected already. Cassius335 00:05, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

That picture...

...the one that was Cacnea's Poké Ball in James hand? I feel that's uneeded, but as you wish. o.o; Tinaδ 18:58, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Actually, there's an interesting thing about it... Ash still has Charizard's Poké Ball somewhere, I'd bet with Oak so as to be able to have up to six Pokémon on his team... but James gave away Cacnea's. Could that mean something? After all, Oak had to transfer Aipom's ball to Rowan so Ash could have it, so technically on-record Ash only had one Pokémon with him at the start of Sinnoh. TTEchidna 04:28, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

GUYS DON'T MOVE IT YET.

HAVE WE DECIDED YET? NO.

*coughs*

Tinaδ 18:27, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Requesting a Page Protect

Could somebody please prevent this page from being edited or moved for a little while? Because some users who shall remain nameless keep wanting to move the page while there is a poll in place. So please, lock the page. --ケンジガール 23:43, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree. We should also protect Dawn's Buizel and Ash's Aipom for the time being. --Theryguy512 00:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree too. -うずまき ハルカ 00:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Protecting... TTEchidna 01:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Why is this debate even still going on? Consensus is clearly for keeping the article under James's name. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:10, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Because Shiny Noctowl's being stubborn, that's the only reason why. Tinaδ 22:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Agreed with TTK. He wants to be right, and therefore we are having this edit war. He fails to recongnize the consisty of what we do to anime Pokémon pages once it is released. Which is usually nothing. --ケンジガール 05:49, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Of course, now, I'm questioning... is Cacnea released? Is Charizard? Is Squirtle? It seems to be a totally different case between the Charizard/Squirtle/Primeape/Cacnea releases than the Butterfree/Pidgeot/Lapras/Arbok/Weezing ones... and Ash still has Charizard's Poké Ball, which has to mean something for him, though it's not the case with Cacnea. TTEchidna 03:23, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
The fact Ash keeps using Charizard and Squirtle at the drop of a hat is telling, I think. Cassius335 10:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
As far as the show goes, Cacnea is no longer with James. However, it was with James for its entire run on the show, which is what matters for naming. --FabuVinny T-C-S 18:47, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Move Protection Announcement

Due to the dub premiere of the episode in question being this coming Saturday, I have protected the page from being moved by anyone who doesn't have sysop powers due to the possibility of clueless dub fanboys creating another Cacnea debacle happening around the dub airing. This protection will go on for six months after the episode's initial US airing, which should curb any debacle which could take place around any first airing in a region. Thank you for your time. --Shiningpikablu252 18:13, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Six months seems a bit much... --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 18:20, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
And it turns out I miscounted and gave it seven. Either way, you're right, I've changed it to three. This should be enough to prevent a debacle based on an initial airing from a high-risk country. --Shiningpikablu252 18:31, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Two different genders?

Was it said to be female in one dub,and male in another? Lovely Rose 20:31, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Yep, different countries had different takes on its gender in dubbing. English called Cacnea (of unconfirmed gender in the Japanese version) a he, but Latin American Spanish called it a she.
And Cacnea's not alone. English called Jirachi (of unconfirmed gender in the Japanese version) from movie 6 a he, but Brazilian Portuguese called it a she. Likewise, Ash's Staraptor is considered a male based on its gender differences, yet the Czech and (allegedly) Polish dubs see him as a female. --Shiningpikablu252 22:24, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

The move

I'm sorry... was this not settled years before? If this is because of Sabrina's Haunter the judgement is way off base. Ash never owned Haunter. James owns Cacnea. Haunter spent less than two episodes with Ash, Cacnea over 200 with James. Also, no evidence of him actually releasing it. It would be like moving Ash's Charizard to Liza's Charizard. --ケンジガール 06:22, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I think it's pointless to bring this up over here, as there was already a poll over this.--ForceFire 09:44, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Secondary or Primary?

I'm pretty sure that when James caught Carnivine, Cacnea was still his primary battler. It made more appearances than Carnivine, didn't it?- unsigned comment from Confusion (talkcontribs)

Cacnea appeared 16 times in DP series whereas Carnivine made 22 appearances up to BW054.--Den Zen 14:24, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Woops, guess I made a mistake.Confusion 19:10, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Then again, should we really build this concept on a six episode difference?Confusion 19:35, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Cacnea Status

Okay, I know that this discussion has already been raised a few years ago, but I would like to know ... at this point in the anime, when we already know that James is probably not going to get Cacnea, and that we saw him in action on Gadernia , isn't it safer to list Cacnea as a Gardenia Pokémon?

I am looking to do a project on top of some Gym leaders and it would be interesting to have an answer on that. Considering that she is not a character of the day, it would be worth reaching an agreement.Hikaru Wazana (talk) 22:10, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree that this article should be renamed at this point. I doubt we're ever going to see Cacnea again. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 22:24, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Anime Pokemon articles are named under the trainer they are most associated with, and most fans associate Cacnea with James not Gardenia.--ForceFire 05:10, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Ah, okay. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 08:04, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Dub gender

[1] (10:20) Do I hear "I guess she couldn't bring itself to hug you."? That would imply it's female, especially when Latin America dub agrees and English one has no source [2].--Rocket Grunt 09:48, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
