Counter

Wen Ash was fighting Team Rocketwith Caterpie, is it posible that he did not know they could not use counter? Cerberus 23:33, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Caterpie tried to use Counter, though. Maybe it thought it could use the move. ----

Glitch and Official Pokémon. There is no real difference between the two. In my opinion, the two should be considered equal!-- quoted by Missingno. Master 11:55, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Did not lokk like it to me. Cerberus 21:03, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
It was trying to do something, though it didn't succeed in a Counter. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 18:47, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Picture in FlashBack

I have a picture of Caterpie wth a green mouth but It wont let e upload a file to the Archives.--Davidaipom 17:28, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

PoisonPowder?

when did Butterfree use PoisonPowder? Lindsayoris15 21:01, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Sometime between EP004 and EP021. MoldyOrange 21:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Released?

Come tho think of it...does it count as "releasing" when the Pokemon was technically NEVER released from the Poke Ball? All Ash did was send Butterfree away and said, "I'll just tell the other Pokemon that you're on a trip and you'll be back some day, maybe." And he never released him with the Poke Ball. - unsigned comment from Tavisource (talkcontribs)

Yeah, and he did the same thing to Pidgeot and Lapras?, I think.--PsychicRider 00:32, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
So can it be CONFIRMED as a release? For example, Paul's Chimcahar was shown being released from the Poke Ball as where Ash's Pokemon was either never released or just not confirmed. What do you other people think?--☆Tavisource 00:35, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
From what I can tell, the whole "release with the Poké Ball" thing didn't even exist until Generation IV, and even then Jessie didn't employ the method like Paul had. --Shiningpikablu252 00:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, technically, the "release with the Poké Ball" method had existed since "Charmander, the stray Pokémon". I mean, in the scene where Damian was calling Charmander back into it's Poké Ball, the animation where he say's "Charmander, Return!" was actually the "Poké Ball, GO!" animation, which implies that he actually released it via the Poké Ball method (Usually, a Trainer calls back their pokémon via the "Red Laser" device on the Poké Ball.). Weedle Mchairybug 11:34, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
But since it didn't apply yet, can Butterfree's release be considered "unconfirmed"? There has to be a difference between releasing a Pokemon and letting a Pokemon wander off on its own.--☆Tavisource 00:43, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
There probably is, but right now, I'm sure the difference is going to stay vague at best. But I think it should be something other than "released."--PsychicRider 01:09, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Ash did release it. Maybe when Ash let it out of the Poké ball he didn't release it in that way because it might return. It counts as a release.--Starlight the ampharos 14:23, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

First Pokemon to have it's gender confirmed?

According to Misty's Horsea's page, it was the first one, since that episode aired a few episodes before Butterfree's last episode. Lovely Rose 21:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

It did appear way before Horsea though. --ケンジガール 02:20, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I am curious though, when was Butterfree's gender confirmed? I've yet to see anything other than Misty referring to it as a he in Bye Bye Butterfree and the mannerisms of it and the pink butterfree that insinuate that it's a boy. Myzou 23:49, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Evolution trivia?

Caterpie evolves at level 7 and Metapod evolves at level 10. Caterpie evolved in less than 1 episode and Metapod evolved in the next or the second episode after Caterpie evolved. Would that be a reference how the Caterpie family evolves so fast?--Midnight Blue 04:00, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Games =/= Anime. Wurmple evolves at the exact same levels as Caterpie yet May's didn't evolve until 10 episodes later. --ケンジガール 04:08, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
I was beat... similar for Ash's Grovyle and Staravia. Yeah... anime≠games. ht14 04:10, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
I need to learn that Games=/=Anime, it's a habit. Sorry. Alright.--Midnight Blue 04:15, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Babies?

I think I remember Brock telling Ash in Bye Bye Butterfree "If you don't release it, it can't have babies", or something like that. What's strange about that statement is that in someway, it states that only Wild Pokémon can reproduce. However, Tracey's Marill produced an egg, and yet Tracey still owns Marill. I'm confused. Satoshi101 04:49, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't think that Brock was referring to the ability of Butterfree to have babies in general (i.e. in captive vs. in the wild), but rather specifically with the Pink Butterfree from that specific episode. Ash's Butterfree was in love with the Pink Butterfree, and I think what Brock was trying to say was there was no guarantee that Ash's Butterfree would get the chance to have babies with another, different Butterfree in the future if Ash didn't let it go with the Pink Butterfree right then and there. After all, real love and the chance to have babies doesn't come around every day, and when it does, you have to seize the opportunity and never let it go. Also, always remember the Prime Directive (no not that one, the other one) GAMES =/= ANIME. Hope that helps. --ジェダイの騎士デジタルテレビ 05:14, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

OK, now I seem to understand. Thanks! Satoshi101 19:04, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Template

I've drastically expanded the history of Ash's Butterfree and the images can now be sprinkled throughout the article. However, I think it would be better for the Metapod using Harden image to fit into the moveset box, like the rest of the attacks. However, I can't work the template and am going to have to request that someone else do it. I'm sorry to be a bother, and I will try to figure it out myself. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 12:01, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

No problemo, it's all done. Thanks for improving the articles by the way, keep up the good work :) ♫♪エイディニズ♪♫ 12:43, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Gender

See Talk:Pink Butterfree. Andros 1337 04:31, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Last ever secion (hopefully) about Butterfree's gender

From Talk:Ash's Charizard:

Please don't post about Charizard's gender being unknown. It's very annoying. Our policy is that the gender stays unknown until someone in the anime calls it a male or female.

Even though that notice is very annoying, why is it different here? Was Butterfree actually called male? Or is it becuse its mate is female (which would also apply to Charizard, since Charla is female)? Vuvuzela2010 Δ 16:24, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Well, honestly we should just
Please don't post about Butterfree's gender being unknown. It's very annoying. Our policy is that the gender stays unknown until someone in the anime calls it a male or female.
it and put it to rest. LimeGreenCharizard 04:51, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
Don't you think it's a little different with Butterfree? It left Ash in order to mate. And two females cannot mate. This one is just far too obvious to me. --ケンジガール 05:07, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Return

I think this page might need to be locked soon: IMG_2463_zps7d29c3a9.jpg RBK (talk) 07:50, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

If anything, it's a confirmation that Ash's Butterfree is indeed male, to put that whole deal aside. There's no female markings. Myzou (talk) 06:15, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Pokemon that were introduced before gender differences existed can't have their gender confirmed based on those differences, regardless of how long an absence there's been between their original appearance and their return. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:52, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Pokémon caught in previous generations are able to have their appearances updated in future generations. As a Caterpie, his mouth was originally yellow in Pokémon Emergency and Ash Catches a Pokémon, but in the flashback in The Thief That Keeps on Thieving!, it was green instead due to its updated design. Also, Ash's Butterfree was already confirmed male, and since Butterfree's appearance before gender differences came to be became the look of a male Butterfree, the Butterfree gender difference does applies to him. --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 15:01, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Butterfree might be making a return in the June 13th Episode: "Satoshi and Butterfree! Until we meet again!!" Yamitora1 (talk) 04:48, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Even if it is Butterfree, we don't add episode appearances for Pokemon. Ataro (talk) 04:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Whoa, slow your roll son. I didn't say anything about adding anything. I'm just relaying the news while its still hot, and the word Return was already on the talk page. Yamitora1 (talk) 05:00, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Ash's Lapras, Charizard, Gliscor, etc. all would like a word with you about that. (That is, if Butterfree actually appears and isn't just flashbacks and a dream sequence, as the picture has Ash in Unova clothing. Though the fact they're on Migration Island in the episode gives a strong chance he'll make an appearance.) I know you meant we don't add flashback/etc. appearances, but based on the evidence we have, it's strongly hinted he will actually be in the episode. Myzou (talk) 12:06, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

A little off topic but is that a shiny Druddigon I see? Nuckles123 (talk) 05:34, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Psychic

I saw in the article that Butterfree was using the move, Psychic, but when I read the chapter, I only saw that Ash and the PokéDex referred to it as a Psychic attack and in fact, the effect was the same as Confusion, a move that wasn't announced as well. I didn't see the move being announced in the Japanese version either. Can someone confirm if Butterfree actually used Psychic or some unidentified move? PattyMan 19:00, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
