Trivia

Origin

Spinarak shares coloring and appearance with the Happy Face Spider, an arachnid from Hawaii that seems to have a face on its abdomen.

Name origin

Spinarak's name is a combination of spinneret, which is where a spider excretes silk from, and arachnid. Spinarak is also the Afrikaans word for spider web. Itomaru could be a combination of 糸 ito, thread, and 丸 maru, circle, or a shortening of 巻き上がる makiagaru, to roll up.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Webarak Comes from web and arachnid.
French Mimigal Comes from mignon and mygale, referring to mygalomorphae.
Korean 페이검 Pe'igǒm Comes from 페이스 peiseu and 거미 gǒmi; referring to the face on its abdomen.
Chinese (Taiwan) 線球 Xiàn Qiú Literally means "Thread ball".
