Solrock (Japanese: ソルロック Solrock) is a dual-type Rock/Psychic Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Contents

Biology

Solrock is a Pokémon that originally came from space. They originally came to earth within meteorites and have since adapted to life on earth quite nicely. Being an inorganic Pokémon, it isn't preyed upon, nor does it need to prey on others, as it derives all its energy from sunlight.

Physiology

Solrock is a mostly orange, spherical Pokémon. Solrock has eight yellow-colored, rocky spines extending from the sides of its body. Multiple, small, yellow stony portions present on the front and back of its body form a vertical pattern. On its back are dual rocky mounds, situated to the sides of the ringing pattern. Solrock’s eyes are large and stylistic, consisting of thick, semicircular yellow eyelids leaving a black-colored slit in which the red pupil can be seen, with a ring pattern of three black extensions above and below each eye.

Gender differences

Solrock is a genderless species.

Special abilities

As it thrives upon solar energy, it emits bright light during battle, as well as heat waves whenever it rotates. This solar power it contains allows it to learn moves like Fire Spin naturally, as well as being able to learn other Fire moves by TM, such as Flamethrower and Overheat. Its psychic powers allow it to read the minds of others.

Behavior

Solrock appears to be an emotionless Pokémon, and instead seems to be affected more by solar energy. It simply floats to transport itself and will attack if necessary. However, it is still capable of reading the minds of others.

Habitat

As Solrock have been found in Meteor Falls, it can be inferred that they prefer caves, though they are also found in other areas with extraterrestrial activity, such as the Giant Chasm in Unova.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

This Pokémon receives all its energy from the sun, alleviating the need to consume other foods.

Brandon used his Solrock in a battle against Ash in Pace - The Final Frontier.

Trivia

  • Solrock shares the same species name with its counterpart Lunatone. They are both known as the Meteorite Pokémon.
  • Although its appearance and Pokédex entries suggest it, Solrock cannot learn Morning Sun, or have Solar Power.
  • Without its ability, this Pokémon and its counterpart Lunatone are the only Pokémon that have seven weaknesses and are not partially Grass-type or have a 4x weakness or 1/4 resistance to anything. Other Pokémon that have seven weaknesses include Celebi, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Snover and Abomasnow.
  • Solrock is the only non-Fire-type Pokémon to be able to learn Fire Spin.

Origin

Solrock is based on the sun, as well as a meteorite.

Name origin

Solrock is a combination of the Latin word sol, meaning sun, and rock.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Sonnfel From Sonne and Fels.
French Solaroc From soleil and roc.
Korean 솔록 Solrock Transliteration of its English and Japanese name.
Chinese (Mandarin) 太陽岩 Tài Yáng Yán Literally "sun rock".
