Shipping talk:History of Pokémon shipping

Is there anyone out there who could assist us in cleaning this article up? The quality of this really needs to be fixed up. So many aspects of this are outright wrong (claiming I'm an AdvanceShipper for instance), or simply present only one side of the story (which, being the PalletShipper side, would represent a minority viewpoint). It only covers up to the start of AG as well, and probably waffles on far too much about the period it does cover. --Archaic 07:34, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok. this entire article seems to be written from the side of the palletshippers.....C is for Cookie 12:48, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

This article is all wrong and OLD. I mean, it says a new character could complicate things, or something like that, I'm not copy and pasting, mind you, I'm doing it from memory. Someone who very well knows the history of shipping outta clean this article up and update it. I mean, new character? We ALREADY have Dawn here and were past the DP 100 mark! This article is very old and needs to be cleaned up a bit by someone who can do that.--DRAGONBEASTX 09:04, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm adding a Template:Outdated on the page. The template clearly explaines that... oh, boy...--DRAGONBEASTX 09:08, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

There's a /reason/ this article appears outdated? You know, it's a history. History usually tend to refer back to instances in the past. Very important, otherwise it's not a history, yeah? It's not outdated. It's incomplete. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 02:19, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, but that specific line with the new traveling companion proves that its old. We already have Dawn! And, its not wrong to have more recent history, like I said, we are in the middle of the DP series, past the 100 episode mark... its time this article was updated by someone who knows the history of shipping well. Its like I'm repeating myself... only I'm being more clear...--DRAGONBEASTX 08:46, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Then it's not "out of date". It's now "incomplete". The reason no one's updated it thus far is because there's no reason to just yet, and the fact that there isn't any "current history" to be reported on, because nothing has been the object of extreme scorn, last seen with Advance/Contest. Once the waves start crashing, and someone remembers it, then it'll be added. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 13:18, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
But.. the page is verrrrryy looooooong. I wish I could read them all, but I can't. The page really really needs a major cleanup. --×Kevzo8 14:14, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
There are few people qualified to continue this article. Most 'Pedians, myself included, do not have the qualifications to continue the article, or expand on it properly. It's not a major issue to begin with. There are other articles in more need of attention than this one. It's rather low priority. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 02:45, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, I agree, to cleanup this article, it takes a very known someone who goes back to Gen I shipping, who was clearly aware of everything happening on websites and stuff... that person must also have had kept major track of what happened in discussions in shipping... from the beginning of shipping, Gen I, to now, the middle of Gen IV. Yes, again, I agree that the majority of Bulbapedia Users couldn't clean it up properly. Plus, here's some recent history: ever since Dawn and Paul came along, websites have been discussing which shipping is more "real"(Dawn-Ash, Dawn-Paul, Dawn-Kenny even Ash-Paul), youtube videos with tons of love songs to support the shippings have also came up by the hundreds. It seems it just might be a shipping... uhm... "war to prove which RECENT shipping is the best", at least THAT is some recent history. It really IS too long... it has to be shortened... and needs to be updated by a "someone" like I mentioned on the top of this message. Now... *SIGH* where can we get someone like that. I here Archaic, but we never CAN precisely know when he's on, cause he's got so much more other stuff to do.--DRAGONBEASTX 04:28, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I cleaned it up, but just a little bit. DP is now listed, and the lie about Archaic being an AdvanceShipper was removed. I didn't have internet access until 2005, so I might not be able to help with this article much. I'll try to clean it up some more later. Alpha Totodile 21:08, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Outsider's Perspective

Okay, I wound up on this page after a simple search for "History". To be frank, this article is so terrible that it's laughable.

  • It doesn't have an introduction. Are we talking about the various Pokémon shippings or behind the scenes? I can't tell.
  • It's way too large. It's twice the recommended length, and is just a wall of text to boot. The few links available are broken.
  • The prose itself is in dire need of work. I admit my style could use some work, but this is embarrassing.
  • Inappropriate language and topics are just casually inserted for no reason. "Bitch" and "jackass"? Talking about hentai and dickgirls? Seriously?
  • Drama alert. A lot of the article is just focused on the shippers themselves and not the development of various shippings. Seriously, if I wanted to read a bunch of pointless drama, I'd go to the Bulbagarden forums. >_>
  • There's a lack of an actual timeline like the other history articles. I don't know when some drama ends and some more begins. It makes it even harder to tell what's going on.
  • The article feels very immature, and all of the bickering doesn't put shippers or the forums they posted on in a positive light.

I'm sure there's more I could point out, but these are the major points.

I just think the whole article needs to be scrapped and rewritten from scratch. I didn't think it was possible, but this article makes Pokémon shipping sound even more ridiculous. MagicBarrier 03:34, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Out of Date

Best Wishes ships are already being discussed and some DP Ships haven't been mentioned on here. --Landfish7 20:53, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Nuke it from orbit?

I realize I'm reiterating what the rest of this talk page says, but I'm not sure this article can be considered relevant anymore, and I don't think a mere cleanup will be enough to fix it. It's extremely excessive documentation of one portion of the fandom during one time period -- do we really need to know the movements of this fan and that fan, the name of every thread, every slogan and poem and argument? I can't say it's entirely useless information, but this is far, far too much detail on too specific an area, and therefore far from the most useful information we could be providing on the subject.

So, can we seal this one away and replace it with a sparser timeline that spans the entire series? Heck, even just a list of when the most popular ships surfaced in relation to the anime would be more informative than this. On a related note, reading the history alone might be a difficult way to learn about the climate of the shipping fandom, particularly in the present. Articles defining the terms "ship war" and "antishipping" may be more useful in this regard, if we can manage to settle on the least biased way to discuss them in the context of the Pokémon fandom -- and, of course, note that general consensus frowns on these behaviors.

I'm willing to work on aspects of what I've just covered, but I'd appreciate any support from someone part of Project Shipping, since I'm honestly more of a casual shipper myself. --Pie ~ 15:38, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
