CavalierShipping (Japanese: シゲヒカ, ShigeHika) is the belief of a romantic relationship between Gary and Dawn. Despite the fact that Gary and Dawn only appeared together in one episode, there were a a few hints on Dawn's side. CavalierShipping can also be called a rival ship to PearlShipping and IkariShipping.

When Dawn heard that Gary was Prof. Oak's grandson, she begged him for a Pokémon poem, thinking that he was a poet like Prof. Oak.
Dawn commented Gary on how he was "exactly like Prof. Oak" when he told them about his research.
Dawn seemed worried when Gary went to battle Pokémon Hunter J, and even tried to stop him from going.
After Gary told Dawn and Brock to go on with the Shieldon, she said, "Gary, please be careful!". It was noted that she told Gary to be careful and not Ash.
As Dawn was waving good-bye, she realized that what Gary told Ash before he left, "Best friends to the end!", was a poem. She then became really happy and, once again, commented that he was like his grandfather.

"Wow, he really IS like Prof. Oak!"

Similarities

Both Gary and Dawn are related to famous personalities.
Gary and Dawn both started off with the water-type Pokémon of their respective regions.
