Shield Dust (Japanese: りんぷん Moth Scales) is an ability introduced in Generation III that prevents added effects. Five Pokémon have this ability, all of them Bug-type. By "preventing added effects", it essentially negates all possible side-effects whose probability would be boosted by Serene Grace; any side-effect (Paralysis from Body Slam, for instance) would be stopped. However, it does not stop moves that only cause these effects, and not damage, like Thunder Wave.
