Quilava (Japanese: マグマラシ Magmarashi) is a Fire-type Pokémon.
It evolves from Cyndaquil starting at level 14, and evolves into Typhlosion starting at level 36.
Biology
Physiology
Like its pre-evolution, the top half of its body is blue; however, its entire body is slimmer. It also seems to have ears and to have lost its snout that it had as Cyndaquil, and its eyes are open. It has flames on its head and rear.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Quilava is the evolution of Cyndaquil. Its fur is non-flammable, so it can withstand flame attacks. The fire coming from its head and rear, which are stronger than Cyndaquil's, can be launched as a flame attack.
Behavior
Quilava is known to be less timid than Cyndaquil, though its behavior appears to be affected by its surroundings. A very common occurrence during evolution is an increase in aggression.
Habitat
Quilava has been known to adapt to many habitats; however, it is usually found in the care of Trainers.

In the anime
Quilava first appeared as a cameo in the episode You're A Star, Larvitar where Ash witnessed a trainer training with his Quilava for the Silver Conference and also considered for a short time of getting his Cyndaquil to evolve as a way of training it for the Silver Conference following Cyndaquil's defeat against Satchel's Magby.
Quilava first played a major role in Love, Pokémon Style! as Macey's Pokémon. She used it against Ash during the Silver Conference but was defeated by his Squirtle.
In Shocks and Bonds, Clark, a trainer that likes to conduct battles like a symphony, used a Quilava and Charizard against Ash's Grovyle and Glalie. Despite the type disadvantage, Ash's Grovyle defeated Clark's Quilava.
A Quilava was used by one of two twin brothers in The Champ Twins in a battle against Ash and Dawn. The other twin used Croconaw.

Trivia
Origin
Its appearance is similar to most animals in the Mustela genus, although it is most likely a stoat based on its lack of a tail and the fur on its upper body being significantly darker than that on its underbelly.
Name origin
Quilava's name is a combination of quill, a needlelike hair, and lava, extrusive molten rock. Its Japanese name is a combination of magma and 山荒 yama-arashi, porcupine.
In other languages
- German: Igelavar - From Igel (hedgehog) and lava.
- French: Feurisson - From feu (fire) and hérisson (hedgehog).
- Korean: 마그케인 Mageukein
