Trivia

  • Oddly, Prinplup can learn Metal Claw despite not having actual claws.

Origin

Prinplup is seemingly based on a macaroni penguin.

Name origin

Its Japanese name is a combination of the words ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha, meaning both to splash in water and to have a plump appearance, and 皇太子 kōtaishi, crown prince - in reference to its evolution into an emperor penguin of sorts. Its English name uses the same pun, "prince" and "plup", the sound of hitting the water
