In the anime
Porygon2 is the only Generation II Pokémon to never appear in the anime. Popular opinion is that this is because of the incident involving Electric Soldier Porygon.
In the manga
Green bought a Porygon in Celadon City. In the GSC saga, it evolved into Porygon2.

Other appearances

When released from a Poké Ball, Porygon2 will immediately use a powerful Tackle attack that sends opponents flying. The attack cannot be escaped due to the speed in which it happens but Porygon2 is harmless once the attack has finished.

Trivia
- This is the only Pokémon with a numerical figure in its name.
- This Pokémon has a cry very similar to Girafarig, with the difference being Porygon 2's cry is higher pitched.
- It is one of the two Pokémon that's both smaller and lighter than the Pokémon that it evolves from. The other is Bellossom. This could be a reference to technology getting smaller and lighter as time goes on.
- It is the only Pokémon that both evolves by trading and needs to be traded to evolve.
Origin
Like Porygon, it is based on an origami crane made with 3D computer graphics. The change in form by evolution from Porygon to Porygon2 represents the concept of subdivision in 3D computer graphics.
Name origin
Porygon2's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the stereotype that Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon. The 2 on its name is because it is the second in its line of evolution, evolving from Porygon.
