PokéWiki is a German Pokémon encyclopedia under a wiki system that, like Bulbapedia, is community-driven. PokéWiki and Bulbapedia were founding members of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, a multi-lingual group of wikis documenting all aspects of Pokémon.

History

PokéWiki was founded as an extension of Filb.de on August of 2005, after various members at FilbBoard, the forums for Filb.de, agreed for the commission of a German Pokémon wiki, shortly after the initial development of Bulbapedia. Shortly after its incorporation, PokéWiki and Bulbapedia joined forces as language affiliate, launching the foundation of Encyclopaediae Pokémonis.

In late August 2008, PokéWiki and its parent site, Filb.de, had their server seized. Upon this, PokéWiki put up a notice explaining the situation. This is an excerpt of the notice left up:

As you might know, not only Filb.de and PokéWiki are operated on our server. Due to the high cost of a "root server", we have been sharing the server with a few other people. Because of the actions of one of those people, the complete server was recently seized.
This has expressly nothing to do with Filb.de or PokéWiki! [...]

By September 6, 2008, PokéWiki was partially restored using an old backup, with registration and editing locked. It would take until May 15, 2009 for PokéWiki to be reopened again to the public.

In August 2009, PokéWiki began a cooperation with a manga/anime and videogame magazine. This resulted in an extra page for PokéWiki in the magazine, bigger ads in the wiki and better covering of the server funds, which don't have to be completely paid by the admins anymore. In January 2014, the cooperation found its end and PokéWiki made a contract with a German advertising company.

On November 14, 2015 PokéWiki reached 20,000 articles, the second one of the Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis members to do so, the first being Bulbapedia.

Like with Bulbapedia, PokéWiki has its own mascot in the form of a green Pikachu, aptly known as Greenchu.

Staff

The current staff of the wiki, which has administrator access, consists of Buoysel, GrollenKette951, Matze, Mecanno-man, RobbiRobb and ShortyBuzz. Buoysel and Matze are Bürokraten (Bureaucrats) as well. They are helped by the Redakteure (editors), a group with permissions to control changes and revert vandalism as well as delete pages, and Projektleiter (projectleader) that serves as the head of several projects. Verlässliche Benutzer (trusted users) is a group consisting of former, still active staff members, and rather new, promising users, able to edit semi-protected pages, Stimmberechtigte Benutzer (users entitled to vote), have the rights to edit templates, suppress redirects, and upload files by url.
