The Pal Pad is a key item that the player gets from Teala at the Wi-Fi Club in the basement of the Pokémon Center after obtaining the Coal Badge in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
The Pal Pad has the function of being able to to register the Friend Code and the name of someone that the player would like to be their friend. The player can obtain their own Friend Code by signing onto the Wi-fi Club for the first time. The player can manually input Friend Codes into the Pal Pad or exchange Friend Codes with other players in the Union Room.
The player can only battle and trade Pokémon with friends that are registered in the Pal Pad over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
