Looking up to see a swarm of Yanmega above her, Roseanne screams, as she is terrified of Bug-type Pokémon. She and her Dunsparce run back inside the Pokémon Research Lab and attempt to close the door behind themselves, but the Yanmega prevent it from shutting. They burst into the laboratory, horrifying Roseanne. She attempts to yell for help, but her voice is drowned out by the buzzing of the Yanmega. Roseanne runs for a light switch on the wall, then repeatedly presses it to signal for help.

At the Berlitz Manor, Diamond and Sebastian see the lights flickering from the laboratory. Sebastian uses his Chinchou to signal to her, but Diamond advises him to hurry to the lab. When the two start to run, Kit stops them by wrapping its tongue around them and tugging them back toward the window. Diamond realizes that Kit is telling them to go through the window. Kit wraps its tongue around a nearby tree branch, then grabs onto Diamond and Sebastian. Swinging itself with its tongue, Kit brings the two to the lab's entrance.

Diamond and Sebastian run inside the building, where they find Roseanne crouched under a table. The Yanmega attack Kit and Diamond, causing the latter to realize that Team Galactic must have summoned the swarm to the lab. Diamond introduces himself to Roseanne, who then watches warily as he approaches the Yanmega. After sustaining another attack from the swarm, Diamond pulls out a notebook.

In a flashback, Pearl gives a notebook to Diamond before leaving for Lake Valor. He explains that he used to write down their comedy routines in the book, but ever since he promised Paka and Uji to protect Platinum, it has become a guide for Pokémon battles.

As Roseanne yells out when the Yanmega approach her, a Power Whip attack shields her from them. She looks up to see Diamond in front of her, who reveals that the buzzing of the Yanmega is actually due to a move, Shock Wave. He explains that he learned it from his Pokédex, and Roseanne is shocked to learn that Professor Rowan had given him one.

Diamond asks Roseanne where the exits in the laboratory are, but Roseanne reveals that there is only one. He then asks where her Dunsparce is, and sees that it is drilling a hole into the ground with its tail. Diamond encourages Roseanne to hide inside the hole with Dunsparce as he stays to watch the Yanmega. Thinking to himself, Diamond realizes that there is likely a flying speaker giving commands to the swarm. After looking around, he is able to spot it. Diamond commands Tru to use Razor Leaf with a single leaf, an attack he calls, "Diamond Special Mach One and Only."
