Cancellation

While the first volume was released in Japan on March 31, 2011, it was decided that the second and third volumes would be cancelled, and the first volume quietly went out of print. The reason for this is due to the depictions of earthquakes and tsunamis in the Ruby & Sapphire chapter, which were deemed inappropriate due to the recent Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.[1]

In 2014, in coordination with the upcoming release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a new omnibus release of the Ruby & Sapphire chapter was announced under Shogakukan's "My First Series" (マイファーストシリーズ) brand of volumes sold in convenience stores. Satoshi Yamamoto has confirmed on his Twitter account that the new series of volumes has no connection to the 2011 releases and that the 2011 releases have been permanently discontinued.
