Pokémon world locations

Mt. Silver (Japanese: シロガネやま Mt. Shirogane) is a large mountain in Johto located west of Victory Road and Indigo Plateau. The location is also referred to as Silver Cave in Pokémon Gold and Silver or Mt. Silver Cave (Japanese: シロガネやまどうくつ Mt. Shirogane Cave) in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Mt. Silver can be reached from Kanto via Route 28 after receiving the sixteen Gym Badges of both Johto and Kanto. At the very summit of Mt. Silver, the player may battle with Red. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Moltres can also be found here.

A field based on Mt. Silver also appears in Pokémon Stadium 2's Kanto Gym Leader Castle.

In the anime, it is the home of Silver Town, where the Johto League's Silver Conference is held.

Geography

In the games, Mt. Silver is off-limits to all but the most skilled of Trainers. After the player has received all sixteen badges of Johto and Kanto, Professor Oak will give the player permission to travel here.

The route to the area is rough, though no HMs are explicitly required to reach the Pokémon Center just outside the entrance. Inside, however, the cave is dark, requiring Flash to see. Many high-level Pokémon reside in the cave, including rare Pokémon not found elsewhere in the Johto region, like Larvitar and Misdreavus.

The cave has only one entrance, unlike all other caves found in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, but goes deep into the mountain. In the cave's final room, the player will encounter Red, who will wordlessly challenge the player to what is the highest-leveled Trainer battle in the Pokémon series.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Mt. Silver is much larger than before. Flash is no longer needed to light up the cave. The higher sections of the cave, where Red is located, require Rock Climb to be accessible. At times, the player must also venture onto the slopes on the mountain's sides in order to climb higher. In addition, a heavy snowfall is present at the summit, which assumes the hail weather condition in battle; this weather can become diamond dust on certain days.

Mt. Silver in the anime

In the anime, Mt. Silver is the home of Silver Town, a city that boasts at least 30 inhabitants. Silver Town's main attraction is the Silver Conference, the Johto League's yearly tournament that brings tourism to the city.

Mt. Silver in Pokémon Adventures

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

In the Gold, Silver & Crystal chapter, Red went to the hot springs at Mt. Silver to recuperate from the frostbites he had received after being frozen by Lorelei in the Yellow chapter. While there, he also met Sabrina, a former member of Team Rocket, who was there to recuperate from similar injuries she received while battling Lorelei on Cerise Island.

Later, Red and Gold went to Mt. Silver to train together. Their training session was seen in two special rounds printed in Pokémon the Comic. In the HeartGold & SoulSilver chapter, the Radio Director admitted to Gold that he did spy on him training with Red on Mt. Silver. This had inspired the Radio Director to move into the television business with a kids' cartoon called Proteam Omega, whose characters were based on Red's Pokémon.

In the Pocket Monsters HGSS Jō's Big Adventure manga

Mt. Silver in Pocket Monsters HGSS Jō's Big Adventure

Origin

Mt. Silver is based on Mt. Fuji in the real-world Japan.
