Metal Energy is a Special Energy card. It was first printed in the Neo Genesis expansion.

Card text (Neo Genesis print)

Damage done to the Pokémon Metal Energy is attached to is reduced by 10 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). If the Pokémon Metal Energy is attached to isn't Metal, whenever it damages a Pokémon, reduce that damage by 10 (before applying Weakness and Resistance).

Metal Energy provides Metal Energy. (Doesn't count as a basic Energy card.)

Card text (EX Ruby & Sapphire print)

Damage done by attacks to the Pokémon that Metal Energy is attached to is reduced by 10 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). Ignore this effect if the Pokémon that Metal Energy is attached to isn't Metal. Metal Energy provides Metal Energy. (Doesn't count as a basic Energy card.)

Release information

Metal Energy has been reprinted more often than any other Special Energy card, an honor it shares with Darkness Energy.

Trivia

Though both it and Darkness Energy represented a type that was eventually as prevalent as the other seven TCG types, only four of this Energy could be included in a deck. This was a major hindrance to the inclusion of Pokémon of these two types in decks until Diamond & Pearl introduced a basic form of this card.

The Neo Genesis print incorrectly has the set symbol colored gray rather than white. This error is not present on the original Japanese print.

Origin

Metal Energy was introduced to provide Energy for Pokémon of the newly-introduced Metal-type, which consisted of all Steel-type Pokémon from the games.
