Magnemite (Japanese: コイル Coil) is a Lightning-type Basic Pokémon card. It was first released as part of the Base Set.

Card text

Lightning Thunder Wave
Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed.
LightningColorless Selfdestruct
Does 10 damage to each Pokémon on each player's Bench. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) Magnemite does 40 damage to itself.

Release information

This card was released in the English Base Set, originating from the Japanese Expansion Pack. It was later reprinted in the English Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection expansions.



Thunder Wave and Selfdestruct are both moves in the Pokémon games. Magnemite can learn Thunder Wave, but not Selfdestruct. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green.
