Levitate (Japanese: ふゆう Floating) is an Ability introduced in Generation III. Thirty-three Pokémon can have this Ability.

Effect

In battle

Levitate renders the user immune to Ground-type moves (except Sand Attack), Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Misty Terrain, Grassy Terrain, Electric Terrain, Arena Trap, and damage from Sky Drop. These immunities can be lost if the user is holding an Iron Ball, is under the effects of Smack Down, Gravity, or Ingrain or if the user has Mold Breaker, Teravolt, or Turboblaze.

Many Pokémon with this Ability are eligible to enter Sky Battles; however, some Pokémon—such as Gengar—are ineligible, due to them making a contact with the ground when entering the battle.

Outside of battle

Levitate has no effect outside of battle.
