Jessie's Yanmega (Japanese: ムサシのメガヤンマ Musashi's Megayanma) is the first Pokémon caught by Jessie of Team Rocket during her travels through Sinnoh. It is voiced by 古島清孝 Kiyotaka Furushima in English and Japanese.

Jessie caught it as a Yanma in The Thief That Keeps On Thieving! after Tyler battled and weakened it. After she captured it, Yanma was sent to Giovanni as their second successful theft. However, he immediately returned it after analyzing it. Jessie then decided to train Yanma herself, not knowing that Yanma already knew AncientPower. Thus when she sent it into battle it quickly evolved into Yanmega.

It is used often by Jessie, sometimes replacing Seviper as her main fighter. So far it has shown itself to be a strong battler, as it destroyed Pikachu's Thunderbolt with its SonicBoom attack as seen in DP092.

Yanmega made its contest debut in DP095 where it was used in the Celestic Contest Appeal Rounds. It failed to get Jessie to the next round.

In DP102 Jessie entered Yanmega in the Kawarake Town Pokémon Contest and won her second Ribbon.

Trivia

As a Yanma being captured by Jessie
As a Yanma being captured by Jessie
  • Jessie captured Yanma after someone else weakened it. This echoes how she captured her Shellder. In this case, it was Tyler and his Piplup that weakened Yanma, whereas James's Weezing weakened Shellder.
  • As a Yanma, it is the third Pokémon to evolve in the same episode it was captured after Ash's Caterpie in Ash Catches a Pokémon and Mankey in Primeape Goes Bananas (though in Mankey's case, it evolved prior to being captured, whereas Yanma and Caterpie evolved after their capture). Because Ash's Metapod did not further evolve into Butterfree until midway through the next episode, Yanma reached its final form the fastest of all Pokémon belonging to the main characters. Caterpie also appeared in a flashback Ash had in the episode Yanma was captured.
  • This is Jessie's first new Pokémon since she obtained Charizard in Grating Spaces, and her first capture since she caught her Wurmple in All in a Day's Wurmple, 257 episodes before. Oddly enough, that episode had a Yanma in it that was owned by another trainer.
  • Yanma was the fourth of five Generation II Pokémon to be in the party of a member of the main cast during the Diamond & Pearl series, preceded by Aipom, Sudowoodo, and Gligar and followed by Swinub (fifth of six if one counts Wobbuffet).
  • Yanmega is the second Generation IV Pokémon to evolve from a Generation II Pokémon on-screen after Dawn's Ambipom, and the third Generation II Pokémon to evolve into a Generation IV Pokémon overall, since Paul's Murkrow evolved into Honchkrow off-screen between Riding the Winds of Change! and Lost Leader Strategy!.
  • Yanmega is the first Flying-type Jessie captured, though she previously owned two Charizard (but only temporarily).
  • It is Jessie's only Pokémon that she has with her that can have more than one ability.
  • It is the second Pokémon of Jessie's thus far to win her a ribbon in a Pokémon contest, the first being her Dustox. Ironically, Yanmega is the Pokémon that replaced Dustox.
