Granbull (Japanese: グランブル Granbull) is a Normal-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Snubbull starting at level 23.

Biology

Physiology

Granbull are purple canine Pokémon that are capable of standing upright. Their most notable feature is their particularly pronounced lower jaws. The jaws are so heavy that the Pokémon have trouble keeping their heads up. However, it is capable of immense crushing power. They also have a collar around their neck.

In the anime

A female Snubbull ran away from its home and followed Team Rocket (and by extension, Ash himself) around the Johto region for a short while. She evolved into Granbull in The Trouble with Snubbull and returned to her owner, Madame Muchmoney.

A Granbull also appeared in the opening of the movie, Spell of the Unown under the ownership of a trainer named Lisa.

Cassidy's Granbull debuted in Sleight of Sand!.

In the manga

Pokémon Special

A Granbull appeared in Volume 8, where it was stealing Pokémon to get attention as its jaw was dislocated. When Gold accidentally knocks its jaw into relocation, it happily returns all the Pokémon it took.

Blue's Snubbull evolved in Granbull in the Sevii Islands.

  • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Granbull hangs around Pokémon Square. Granbull evolved from Snubbull without realizing what was happening, though it enjoyed its new appearance after getting over the initial shock. This event alerted the rest of the characters that evolution was now possible.

Trivia

  • Its Gold and Silver sprites are wrongly colored with a pink hue. This is corrected in Crystal.
  • Granbull, its pre-evolution, Aerodactyl and Regigigas have the most amount of starting moves: 7.

It is based on an adult bulldog.

Name origin

Granbull's name may be a combination of grand and bull, as in bulldog.
