In the anime

Gracidea (Japanese: グラシデア) is a vast area located in Sinnoh. It is near the top of a mountain. Shaymin, along with others of its species, lives here. If a Shaymin touches one of the flowers native to this place, it will immediately change Forme.

In the anime

Gracidea was featured in Giratina and the Sky Warrior. Shaymin was in a rush to get there in time for "flower bearing", a ritual where many Shaymin gather, transform into Sky Forme, and fly away to start a new Gracidea garden in a faraway place.

The Gracidea garden featured in the movie was located at the base of a glacier, and was threatened with destruction when Zero's actions in the Reverse World caused it to start moving. A Regigigas, who inhabited a temple in the mountains of Gracidea, awoke just in time to help stop the impending disaster. In the English dub, the Gracidea garden was also referred to as the "flower garden".

Several Shaymin in Gracidea

In the games

Gracidea did not appear in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, but its equivalent is the Flower Paradise, as Shaymin can be found there in the games and there are plenty of flowers, just like Gracidea. In Pokémon Platinum, the Gracidea is given to the player by a lady in Floaroma Town. The player can only obtain it if they have a fateful encounter Shaymin in their team.

It has also been confirmed by a few people that if using an Action Replay to cheat for both Oak's Letter and Cherish Balls, a Gracidea may be obtained. By capturing Shaymin with a Cherish Ball, the game is tricked into believing that the Shaymin was obtained from a from a Nintendo Event.

Trivia

  • Gracidea's name may come from the word "gratitude", because Shaymin is the Gratitude Pokémon. It might also come from a combination of the Latin words gracilis, modest, and dea, goddess.
  • Gracideas were featured in Shaymin's HeartGold and SoulSilver Pokédex entry.
