Gary's Umbreon (Japanese: シゲルのブラッキー Shigeru's Blacky) was a Pokémon obtained by Gary while Ash was in the Orange Islands. Its Japanese voice actress is Satomi Kōrogi. Its English voice actress, only as Umbreon, is Kayzie Rogers.
Gary obtained Umbreon as an Eevee. It is unknown under what circumstances Gary obtained it. It was often previously implied that Eevee was Gary's starter Pokémon, due to the fact that Gary's in-game counterpart, Blue, starts with an Eevee in Pokémon Yellow. This implication was confirmed as false in The Ties That Bind where Gary's starter Pokémon is revealed to be a Squirtle. Gary trained his Eevee very well, and it had a very shiny coat of fur. It was able to defeat Ash's Pikachu shortly before they both left for Johto.
It evolved in the Johto region sometime prior to the episode Power Play, while it was training at night with Gary. It was also seen with Gary during Putting the Air Back in Aerodactyl.
Gary and Umbreon also helped Ash, Brock and Dawn protect the herd of Shieldon from the notorious Pokémon Hunter J and her evil minions during the events of Ill-Will Hunting!.
