He evolves from male Burmy starting at level 20. He is one of Burmy's final forms, the other being Wormadam.

Contents

Biology

Physiology

Mothim has four tan-colored wings, two large and two small, with orange circles adorning them. The wings split to three at the tip of the larger wings and splits in two at the tips of the smaller wings. Mothim has a black head, with orange eyes and two red and gray antennae above his head. Mothim's body is also black with a patch of orange on the underside and his legs are gray. He also has a small black tail that splits into two. It doesn't matter what form Burmy was in before it evolved; Mothim will always look the same. They also will have a small gray stripe running down their back.

Gender differences

Mothim are the male of the species. For the female counterpart, see Wormadam.

Special abilities

Like its female counterpart, Mothim is capable of learning a few Psychic-type moves. Mothim is also capable of using moves considered standard for butterfly- or moth-like Pokémon, such as Bug Buzz and Silver Wind.

Behavior

Mothim is a nomadic, nocturnal Pokémon that always remains on the move, searching for honey. It tends to steal honey that Combee has collected.

Habitat

Mothim do not have a fixed habitat, as they migrate throughout the country searching for nectar.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Mothim love to eat honey, and it is likely part of their daily diet as they're always flying around in search of some. Mothim have also been known to steal honey from Combee as well.

Trivia

  • Though there are four Pokémon based on moths (Venomoth, Dustox and Volcarona are the other three), Mothim is the only one that is part Flying.
    • However, it may be supposed that Masquerain is a moth.
  • As of Generation V, Mothim is one of three Pokémon related to a Pokémon with form differences that does not have a form difference itself, the other two are Cherubi and Darumaka.
    • Of these, Mothim is the only one that evolves from the Pokémon with form differences, rather than the other way around.
  • Even though its body is black and orange, it is classed as being yellow in the Pokédex. This is probably because its wings are a tan-yellow color. A similar situation happens with Butterfree.
  • Mothim and Wormadam are the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 424.

Origin

Mothim is based on an adult bagworm moth, which only fully matures if it is male.

Name origin

Mothim's Japanese name is derived from 蛾 ga, moth, and male. Mothim comes from moth and him.

In other languages

German Moterpel From Motte.
French Papilord From papillon and lord.
Korean 나메일 Namale Combination of 나방 nabang and male.
