Feebas (Japanese: ヒンバス Hinbass) is a Water-type Pokémon.

Feebas is known for its extreme rarity and it generally takes a long time to find one in the main series games where they are only found in a set number of randomly chosen fishing "tiles" on large bodies of water. For example, Route 119 in Hoenn has hundreds of squares that the fishing rod can be used on in the river that runs down it but Feebas is only found in six of them. However, Feebas are actually very common where they are found making it easy to catch multiple members of the species once one has been located.

Feebas evolves into Milotic by maxing out its Beauty condition, which is achieved through feeding it Pokéblocks or Poffin. Much like Magikarp and Remoraid, it is also a Water-type that does not resemble its evolved form.

Feebas has appeared four times in the anime. One was biting Jessie's hair in Whiscash and Ash.

The Magikarp Salesman sold a Feebas to Team Rocket in Pearls are a Spoink's Best Friend but it was actually a Magikarp in disguise.

Another, in Ya See We Want an Evolution, was nicknamed the loveliest Feebas of all.

In Malice in Wonderland!, A Feebas under the ownership of Johanna was an illusion created by Mismagius.

Trivia

  • Though its level-up moves are exactly the same as those of Magikarp, Feebas can actually be taught TMs and HMs, be bred egg moves, and by tutor, making it slightly more useful in battle, especially from the start.

Origin

As its name suggests, Feebas is probably based on a bass.

Name origin

Feebas's name is a combination of feeble, meaning small and weak, and bass. Its Japanese name is a combination of 貧 hin, poor, and bass. "Hin" may also come from the words "hind," as in behind, or "hinder."
