Release information
This card was originally released in the Neo Genesis expansion, originating from the Gold, Silver, to a New World... expansion in Japan. In Japan, it was reprinted in the Pokémon VS expansion, Base Expansion Pack, and the Rayquaza and Deoxys Constructed Starter Decks. It was included in the Expedition Base Set under the name Power Charge and the EX Deoxys expansion under the original name.
Due to the fact that this card's name and, at the time of Power Charge's original Expedition Base Set release, effect slightly differed from Power Charge, it was ruled that "Energy Charge" and "Power Charge" were not the same card in the English-language printings. French, Portuguese, Brazilian, and Spanish prints of Power Charge still bore the name Energy Charge however. A similar situation would later affect Moo-Moo Milk from Neo Genesis and Moomoo Milk from HeartGold & SoulSilver, where slight differences in name and effect resulted in a ruling saying they were two different cards.
