Distant land
Distant land (Japanese: 遠く離れた土地 distant land) is a region placeholder found in the core series games, first used in Pokémon Colosseum and XD, then subsequently introduced to the core series in the Generation IV games. This placeholder data is displayed as the Pokémon's met location when it was met in a different game, but the current game does not define the name of the region to display for the Pokémon's game of origin. It is most commonly used for Pokémon from Pokémon Colosseum and XD.

Distant land is the met location displayed when a Pokémon is met in a region that is not defined in its current game. It is similar to Faraway place, but for regions instead of locations.
The most common usage of this placeholder is for Pokémon met in the Orre region—i.e. Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Colosseum or XD. Orre has never been defined as a region in the game data of the core series games, so Pokémon met in Orre are displayed as being met in a "distant land" in all games from Generation IV onward.
In Pokémon Colosseum and XD, traded Pokémon are displayed as being met in a distant land.
In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Pokémon transferred from the Generation II Virtual Console games are displayed as being met in "a distant land in the good old days" (in contrast to the Generation I Virtual Console games being displayed as "the Kanto region in the good old days"); this is due to the Generation II Virtual Console releases not having been announced at the time of Pokémon Sun and Moon's release. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they are instead displayed as being met in "the Johto region in the good old days".
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet display as being met in a "distant land". Unlike other Generation VIII games, in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Pokémon met in subsequent generations are displayed with the Sword and Shield origin mark and display "Faraway place" as their met location.
In the mobile version of Pokémon HOME, Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Dream Radar are displayed as being met in the Unova region (since their game of origin will necessarily be Black 2 or White 2), but as specifically being met at the location "Distant Land".
