A Channeler (Japanese: きとうし Shaman) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are generally depicted as Shinto priestesses. They scared out people from Pokémon Tower and were possibly unwittingly helping Team Rocket make their base in the tower. Their strange behavior when challenging the player and reactions after being defeated seem to imply they were possessed by the ghosts they used while battling. In fact, some Channelers apologize, saying "I was possessed!" when spoken to after battle.

They specialize in Ghost-type Pokémon. However, since they only appear in the Pokémon Tower, this restricts them to training Gastly and Haunter as they are the only obtainable Ghost-type Pokémon in Kanto (excluding Gengar which is only available via trade).

In Pokémon Stadium they're known as Mediums, which may lead to a confusion with similar but different sort of trainers. They wear white robes and carry sticks to help channel spirits.
