Route 8

Route 8

Route 8 is a simple route that connects Saffron City to Lavender Town in the east. Fight the three Bikers, who call themselves the Kanto Pokémon Federation, near the gate and continue to the east.

Lavender Town

Lavender Town

Lavender Town is still a small town, but it has been modernized somewhat by the conversion of the Pokémon Tower into the region's new Radio Tower.

Kanto Radio Tower

The tower's security has been on alert ever since Johto's Radio Tower was taken over by Team Rocket, so no visitors are allowed above the first floor. Your Pokégear can already detect two of the three programs broadcasted here. To access the Poké Flute Channel, you'll need an EXPN Card, but you can't get it until the Power Plant is up and running again.

Program Host(s) Channel Description
Places and People Lily 16.5 A talk show that discusses various locations and Trainers encountered by the player.
Let's All Sing Fern 18.5 Broadcasts different music depending on the day of the week. The Pokémon MarchSuTuThSa increases the wild encounter rate, while the Pokémon LullabyMoWeFr decreases it.
Poké Flute Channel (no host) 20.0 Broadcasts Poké Flute music. Used to awaken the Snorlax near Vermilion City.

The Soul House

Soul House

The Soul House was built to house the departed Pokémon from the former Pokémon Tower. There are only a few graves in the building, but many others are located in underground chambers that only Mr. Fuji is allowed to enter.

Name Rater

The Name Rater is found in the southeast house, and allows Trainers to rename any of their Pokémon. However, Trainers are unable to rename Pokémon obtained in a trade.

Go north to reach Route 10.

Route 10 (south)

Route 10

The south side of Route 10 only has two Trainers between Lavender Town and Rock Tunnel. The Power Plant is located near the tunnel, but can only be reached by surfing downriver from Route 9. Bring along a Pokémon with Flash, or you may end up getting lost in the darkness.

Rock Tunnel, 1F
Rock Tunnel, B1F

Rock Tunnel

A few rare Pokémon species now inhabit Rock Tunnel, displaced from the now-closed Safari Zone. This is great news for Trainers, since elusive Pokémon like Marowak and Kangaskhan may appear.

1F

Walk straight ahead onto the rock platform to find TM47 (Steel Wing), then go west to find an Elixir. Head east and take the ladder to the basement.

B1F

Head south to find a PP Up surrounded by rocks. To the northeast is a Revive. Climb the ladder to the east.

1F

Walk northwest and go down the next ladder.

B1F

Follow the path south to arrive at a T-intersection. Pick up the Iron to the west, and climb the ladder to the east.

1F

Check your surroundings for a hidden X Accuracy, and follow the S-bend to the exit.

Route 9

Route 9

When you emerge from the cave, you find yourself near a Poké Center. If you ask around, you'll learn that the Power Plant's manager is looking for a strong Trainer to recover something that was stolen from the building. Head up to the north end of the river, and swim to the south. The Power Plant stands on the south shore.

Route 10 (north)

Power Plant

The old, abandoned Power Plant was renovated in order to power the region more efficiently. However, a thief has stolen an essential part of the new generator, forcing if offline. When you go to leave, the security guard announces that a shady character has been seen loitering around Cerulean City, and asks you to check it out.

Ride back up the river and go west to Cerulean City.
