Acid (Japanese: ようかいえき Melting Liquid) is a damage-dealing Poison-type move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Generation I

Acid does damage and has a 9.8% chance of lowering the target's Defense by one stage.

Acid will not be able to lower the target's Defense if it has reached a level of -6 or a value of one, or if the target has a Substitute.

Generation III

Acid will hit both opponents in a Double Battle and has a 10% chance of lowering the target's Defense by one stage.

Generation IV

Acid will hit both opponents in a Double Battle and has a 10% chance of lowering the target's Special Defense by one stage.

  • Acid is the only damaging Poison-type move that does not have a chance of poisoning the target.
  • Acid has no effect on Steel-type Pokémon, despite that real-life acids react very strongly with most metals.
